Different custody systems.
Different places to start.

A San Francisco County arrest usually means the county jail. A state sentence, a federal case or an immigration hold means a different system with its own locator and rules.

Understand jail and prison differences

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Which San Francisco county jail holds the person?

Use the Sheriff's Find a Person in Jail service. The county system uses Jail #2 at 425 7th Street and Jail #5 in San Bruno; the record controls the correct building.

Is Juvenile Hall part of the adult jail system?

No. Juvenile Hall and Juvenile Probation are at 375 Woodside Avenue and use separate youth contacts and rules.

How do I schedule an adult jail visit?

Use GTL VisitMe the day before. Jail #2 and Jail #3 have different weekend and holiday hours, so confirm the building first and arrive 30 minutes early.

Where does adult jail mail go?

Use last name, first name and SF number. Jail #2 mail goes to 425 Seventh Street, San Francisco; Jail #3 mail goes to 1 Moreland Drive, San Bruno. USPS and publisher-direct book rules apply.

Are San Francisco jail phone calls free?

Yes. The Sheriff states that jail phone calls are free. Social video and in-person visits are managed through GTL VisitMe, with help at (415) 553-1430.
