Sheriff Correspondence (checked 2026-09-12): effective June 1, 2025, personal mail is scanned at Securus Digital Mail Center, PO Box 25397, Tampa, FL 33622, and delivered on kiosk/tablets. Normal personal mail is no longer accepted at Sheriff detentions facilities. Privileged/legal mail from legal institutions is not changed. Books/periodicals only from the publisher, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon — limit 2 soft-bound books per shipment. Do not send cash, money orders, checks, stamps, stickers, tape, blank paper, greeting cards, lipstick, hair, perfume, or sexually explicit material. Same Tampa box for Justice, Pre-Trial, Max-Med, and Minimum. Do not send adult-jail Securus mail to youth halls, Wasco, NKSP, KVSP, CCI, or ICE.

No. James G. Bowles Youth Detention Center is handled through Kern County Probation Department. Kern County Probation secure reception hall at 1831 Ridge Road. Visiting: initial 3:30–8:30 p.m. within two days of booking; regular Sundays 12:30–5:00 p.m.
