Florida Jails & Prisons
Every jail, prison and detention facility in Florida — addresses, phone numbers, visiting rules, and the official inmate search for each one.
Florida has 42 correctional institutions operated by Florida Department of Corrections, plus 95 county and local jails. This directory lists 160 because it still carries institutions the agency is closing. How we count.
- ArrestedTaken to the county jail for the county where the arrest happened — not where they live.
- County jailHeld here while the case runs. 95 local jail facilities in Florida. Bail is set and posted here.
- Court and sentencingMost people leave from here. Only a sentence to state time moves someone into the prison system.
- Released, fined, or a county sentence — the path ends here for most people
- Reception centreWeeks, not days. They are scored, assessed and assigned. Expect little contact during this stage — this is the part families are least warned about.
- InstitutionPlaced at one of 42 institutions, at a security level set by their score — not by the worst thing the prison is allowed to hold.
- Release and supervisionThey report to a parole or probation office, which is rarely the city they were held in.
Browse Florida records by system.
Jails, state prisons, federal facilities, and ICE detention are run by different agencies under different rules. These groups are how we file the records — not official counts of what the state operates.
What do you need to do in Florida?
Each link goes to the agency that actually handles it. Individual facilities can still add their own rules, so confirm with the one holding the person.

Finding someone
The Florida Department of Corrections publishes a public search covering people in FDC custody and those released since 1997. County jail populations are held separately by each sheriff.
Staying in touch in Florida
Phone calls
Phone calls from Florida state prisons (Securus)
Phone service at Florida DC state-run facilities is provided by Securus Technologies. Calls originate from inside only. To receive them, set up a prepaid account with Securus (securustechnologies.com or the Securus app) — Florida consumers pay no transaction fee on prepaid deposits. Securus's published FDC rate card is 4 cents per minute for local extended-area calls and 14 cents per minute for long-distance and interstate calls, with no connection charge. Electronic messaging that used to run through JPay Email is now Securus eMessaging on the same account. One important exception: the two CoreCivic-operated contract prisons (such as Lake City CF) use ViaPath/ConnectNetwork for calls instead of Securus — check the facility page before setting up an account.

Sending money
Sending money to a Florida state prison (JPay)
Deposits to a Florida DC inmate's trust account run through JPay. Online at JPay.com or by phone at 1-800-574-5729, fees scale with the amount — from $1.95 on deposits under $10 up to $12.95 on deposits of $200–$300 (phone deposits add $1 per tier), with $300 the per-transfer maximum. Funds sent before 8:00 PM ET post the same day, any day of the week. Money orders use FDC's official Money Order Deposit Form and go to JPay's processing address printed on that form — never to the prison. JPay messaging 'stamps' and video sessions bill separately. Exception: the CoreCivic-operated contract prisons use their own trust-department address and Western Union instead of JPay — check the facility page first.

Mail and photos
Mail to Florida state prisons goes to Tampa, not the prison
Since 2022, routine mail for every Florida DC inmate is digitized by Smart Communications — nothing physical reaches the person. Address letters exactly as: inmate's last name, first name, DC number / PO Box 23608 / Tampa, FL 33623, sent by U.S. Postal Service only (no FedEx/UPS). The inmate reads a scanned copy on a tablet or kiosk; photos arrive as copies, with prints available only at cost on request. Greeting cards and children's artwork are digitized like everything else, so don't send anything you want returned. Legal and privileged mail is exempt and still delivered physically at the institution — address it to the facility itself, not Tampa. The program began as a four-prison pilot on January 18, 2022 and now covers all state facilities.

Planning a visit
Visiting a Florida state prison: get on the approved list first
No one visits a Florida DC facility without prior approval. Submit the Request for Visiting Privileges form to the specific institution — FDC publishes a per-institution visitation mailbox list for sending applications — and wait for approval before planning a trip. State prisons concentrate visiting on weekends, with hours varying by facility and security level, so confirm the schedule on the facility's page. Bring a current government photo ID, arrive 15–30 minutes early for sign-in and screening (metal detector, badge), and follow the posted dress code. Remote video visitation is available through the tablet program at $2.95 per 15-minute session at most institutions. Children and former inmates require additional approvals — start those early.

Where in Florida?
Most people know the county or the city, not the name of the facility. Start there. Bail is set and posted at the county jail, so the county page is also where the sheriff, the custody search and the court contacts live.
