Plan a visit
Santa Rita visits are scheduled through GTL VisitMe. Same-day appointments are not offered, so confirm the person’s housing information and the current appointment window before traveling.
Open the visiting guide →Home / Directory / California / Santa Rita Jail
Find the current PFN and housing, reserve the specific visit, use the February 2026 mail routing, and keep phone, trust, packages and bail separate.

Adult Alameda County Sheriff custody at Santa Rita Jail. Glenn Dyer is closed; juvenile, state, federal and immigration custody are separate.
Use the official locator or call 925-551-6500; confirm PFN and housing.
Use the Alameda reservation portal and obtain any required approval.
Ordinary mail goes to Pigeonly; legal/publications and account types differ.
Check Wheels Route 1, actual release clearance and clinical follow-up.
Custody, identifiers and boundaries.
Santa Rita information: 925-551-6500. Use the Sheriff’s inmate locator, match the name and identifying details, and save the Person File Number (PFN), booking details, housing, court dates and case numbers. PFN is needed for visits, mail and money. Ask the arresting agency where it delivered the person if a recent arrest is not found.
The directory’s law-enforcement roster identifies arresting agencies, not dozens of separate county jails. State prison, federal custody, ICE and juvenile detention require their own locator and operating rules.

| Santa Rita Jail | 5325 Broder Blvd., Dublin, CA 94568. 925-551-6500. | Current adult Sheriff custody covered by this guide. Confirm the person’s housing unit. |
| Glenn Dyer Detention Facility / North County Jail | Former Oakland jail. | The county’s AB 109 evaluation records permanent closure in June 2019. An old directory or policy reference does not establish reopening. |
| East County Hall of Justice | 5151 Gleason Drive, Dublin, CA 94568. Criminal clerk: 925-227-6792. | Court, not the Santa Rita family entrance or jail mail address. |
| Public Defender Dublin branch | 5149 Gleason Drive, #C155, Dublin, CA 94568. 925-551-6863. | Counsel’s office; confirm the assigned court and attorney. |
Juvenile Justice Center custody, state prisons, federal Bureau of Prisons facilities and immigration detention are outside this guide. A person under another agency’s hold while physically at Santa Rita still needs location-specific confirmation; this guide does not establish the other agency’s release authority or import federal rules into county visits.

Reservation, children, clothing, video and access.
All routine public visits require an appointment in the Alameda ViaPath reservation system. The Sheriff allows booking up to 3 days ahead, online at any hour, with no same-day appointments. Each adult age 18 or older registers separately using name, physical address (no PO box), telephone, date of birth, driver’s-license number and email. Have the resident’s name, PFN and date of birth.
| Visit | Published rule | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Face-to-face, noncontact | 30 minutes; one public visit per resident per day. Policy: daily except Wednesday; holidays require Administrative Captain/designee approval. | The current Sheriff schedule image is marked effective April 10, 2026. Its housing-unit matrix could not be inspected in this review; no unit/time is invented here. Confirm the exact appointment. |
| Video | Policy 17.03 specifies 25 minutes and availability 7 days, potentially including holidays. | The public page also uses a general 30-minute description. Confirm the booked video duration rather than assuming the face-visit duration. |
| Public party size | Policy: up to 4 adults and 4 children in the visiting party; no more than 4 visitors in the booth at one time. | Register adults and obtain the permitted party arrangement before bringing a larger group. |
The March 21, 2024 policy provides a 30-day suspension after 2 no-shows within 30 days, measured from the second missed visit; further violations may lead to 60 days. A visitor who arrives but is turned away does not count as a no-show under that policy.
Special visits outside the usual schedule or under unusual circumstances require Watch Commander approval. Visits longer than 30 minutes require the Visiting Unit Sergeant/designee to consider relationship, reason, history, time and security. The policy allows an Administrative Captain same-day exception, while the current public page promises none: obtain explicit approval, never treat travel distance as an automatic exception. Public contact visits require the D&C Commander and/or a court order. Professional visiting hours are not a family schedule.
Policy 18.22, revised December 19, 2024, allows a ceremony in the visiting booth during normal visiting hours. The couple arranges the officiant, forms and legal requirements; jail chaplains and volunteers do not perform the marriage. Notarization goes through Reentry & Support Services, and no special clothing exchange is allowed. A person held federally must make a written request to the US Marshals Service. Counsel may coordinate a court ceremony with an already scheduled court date; the Sheriff does not transport someone solely for a wedding. Confirm all permissions before buying travel or arranging a ceremony.

Accepted identification on the current Sheriff page includes a valid driver’s license, California/state ID, passport, Matriculate Consulate card, or other government-issued identification with photograph, physical characteristics and signature. Use the same identity as the reservation. False registration information can lead to permanent loss of visiting privileges.
Children under 18: the current page requires a parent or legal guardian and proof of guardianship. Policy 17.03 additionally requires an original or copy of a birth certificate each visit showing the accompanying adult or incarcerated person as parent. That older policy describes broader adult accompaniment and a married-minor exception with a sealed court marriage certificate; the current page does not repeat those exceptions. Call 925-551-6500 for approval before relying on a nonparent adult or spouse exception. Never leave a child unattended.
Wear full clothing and shoes or sandals. No sleeveless, strapless, halter, midriff, swimsuit, sheer or underwear-revealing garments; no pajamas; shorts and skirts, including slits, must not rise above mid-thigh. Avoid gang-associated clothing/colors, exposed gang or hate tattoos, obscene graphics, excessive jewelry, metal overalls, nonremovable metal buckles and steel-toe shoes. Removing an outer layer does not help if the remaining clothing violates the rules. The lobby deputy determines admission.
Phones, cameras, laptops, recording equipment, purses, bags, briefcases, strollers and infant carriers cannot enter visiting. Secure them in a vehicle or public-lobby locker; the Sheriff warns that unclaimed locker contents are removed/disposed of at the end of visiting. No locker fee was verified. For an infant, the exception is 1 diaper and 1 baby bottle; policy specifies milk or formula. Other food and drink are prohibited.
Visitors, possessions and vehicles are subject to search. Do not bring weapons, alcohol, drugs or cannabis. No photography on jail property without permission. No smoking in the building, on ramps or within 20 feet of an entrance.
Ask how to submit identity, conviction/release and supervision information and how approval will be recorded before reserving. An account or appointment alone does not waive these restrictions.
In the Alameda portal, open My Account → Manage Visitors → Minor Visitors and register/add the child before scheduling. Select the child as a participant. If another account already registered them, ask the facility to add them to your visitor list. This registration step does not change Santa Rita’s parent/guardian and document requirements above.

The Sheriff identifies GettingOut/ViaPath for remote video and jail-lobby kiosks; start with the Alameda portal. Its current desktop notice requires GTL VisBridge: sign in at least 10 minutes before the visit, choose Internet Visit Tester and follow the installation prompts. The portal also advertises GTL VisMobile for Android. Follow the device requirements shown for your selected visit; a generic app listing does not establish compatibility for every device.
The portal recommends at least 1 Mbps upload and download, Edge/Firefox/Chrome/Safari, and headphones. Close Zoom, Teams and other programs using the camera, connect the camera/microphone and run Internet Visit Tester before the appointment. These are preparation requirements, not a guarantee of connection quality. Confirm the selected location is remote or jail lobby. If it fails, record date/time, appointment ID, charge, error and whether either party connected; contact 855-208-7349 or visitorsupport@gtl.net. Provider visitor support lists Monday–Friday 6 AM–4 PM MST and Saturday–Sunday 7 AM–4 PM MST. Preserve that published time-zone label when arranging contact. Ask for credit review and a case number; no universal deadline or automatic credit for a visitor’s technical failure was verified.
Public video is recorded/monitored. Keep faces visible; no screenshots, recording, three-way participation, sexual behavior, gang signs, disruptive conduct, intoxication or contraband display. The page also prohibits hats, bandanas and beanies; request any religious or disability accommodation before the session. Normal dress rules apply.
Video visitors previously in CDCR custody but no longer on parole/PRCS need the Jail Commander’s written permission. Current probation, parole or PRCS requires written approval from both the Commander and supervising officer. Confirm approval before paying. For attorney visits, the portal requires registration plus facility vetting; professional approval questions go to prolist@acgov.org. It explicitly warns that unvetted visits will be recorded. Family accounts must not be used as a substitute for confidential legal access.
Use the visit’s Summary page and Cancel Visit, review any displayed charge, then confirm. The Alameda portal says facility cancellations for restrictions, facility events, unavailable stations, housing changes, release or center closure are not charged. Visitor cancellations can still incur charges. The appointment’s yellow policy box controls the specific terms. Preserve its receipt and cancellation notice; completed/canceled visit details remain available for 6 months. A failed connection is not automatically a facility cancellation.

Call the lobby at 925-551-6500 as early as possible for assistance with the main entrance ramp, accessible visiting space or screening. Describe the functional need and appointment, and ask where to meet staff. The Sheriff says disabled visitors receive the same visiting privileges and may ask a deputy for help on arrival.
Policy 17.03 provides accessible visiting booths, service-animal access and alternative screening when a person cannot use the standard metal detector. It identifies lobby video Station 4 for accessibility and a mobile-device/TTY alternative when required. Confirm the working arrangement before travel; a reserved booth does not itself establish a step-free route from an unverified parking spot.
Inside, residents should request the ADA Coordinator for telephone, commissary, written-form or program access. Policy 17.04 provides TTY/TDD and video relay access during pod time. Current grievance policy permits help with an ADA grievance when disability prevents written or electronic submission. Ask staff for language assistance and an understandable explanation of forms rather than relying on a child to interpret sensitive matters.

Separate accounts, phone, mail, books and trust.
| Service | What the balance does | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| AdvancePay | Prepaid incoming calls to your specific telephone number. | ConnectNetwork Alameda; automated payment 800-483-8314. |
| PIN Debit | Resident-controlled calling funds for approved numbers; funds become the resident’s property. | Local Alameda provider page: 888-428-1845. Spanish facility page identifies Site ID 167. |
| Trust Fund | Resident commissary account, distinct from telephone funds. | Local Alameda provider page: 888-428-1845; choose Trust Fund, not PIN Debit. |
| Video | Appointment and video service through the Alameda reservation portal. | Visitor help 855-208-7349; confirm price and account before paying. |
| iCare package | Eligible goods from the selected facility catalog, not a cash deposit. | Select Alameda/Santa Rita and the current resident in the live iCare catalog. |
| Bail | Court/custody release security for a particular case. | Ask jail/court about the actual order and every hold; never put bail into commissary. |
Begin with the provider’s Alameda facility page, verify 5325 Broder Blvd. and the correct person/PFN, then review amount, fee and account type before confirming. The local payment numbers above differ from generic provider numbers. Customer support is 877-650-4249. Keep receipts and disable unwanted automatic reloads.
The April 21, 2026 Board minutes approved telephone and video contract extensions through April 30, 2028. A contract described as no cost to the county does not make every family call/video free. No current public Alameda rate table or free-session allotment was verified. Read the price displayed for the selected transaction; old temporary COVID offers are not a current entitlement.

Residents make outgoing calls; there is no direct incoming family line. Policy 17.04 provides daily housing-phone access during pod time, not a published all-day clock schedule. Intake policy allows at least 3 completed calls within 3 hours of arrest unless physically impossible; its December 19, 2024 text specifies free local calls within Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin and San Ramon and outside calls at the caller’s expense. Ask staff about an unmet intake-call need.
Create AdvancePay for the exact number that will receive calls, or fund the resident’s separate PIN Debit account. When a call fails, check number, service selected, balance, blocked/unknown-call settings and any provider or facility restriction. Do not conference, transfer calls or use someone else’s PIN: the local policy provides a 90-day block for three-way/PIN misuse. Public calls are recorded; counsel should arrange approved confidential access.
For a death, serious illness or other urgent family message, call 925-551-6500 and ask for Reentry & Support Services; when that office is closed, ask for the Watch Commander. Give the person’s name/PFN, your callback and verifiable facts. This is a request for staff routing, not a guarantee the person can call immediately.
AdvancePay offers refunds when the account is no longer needed; use provider support at 877-650-4249 and keep the transaction history. PIN Debit unused funds are refunded to the resident upon release under provider terms; ask how that balance is delivered separately from jail trust money. Do not assume every account automatically transfers or disappears after a move. For a dropped/charged call, record the time, numbers, length and error and request review. The provider says mobile/cordless call drops are not routinely refunded; a complaint can trigger investigation at the jail equipment.

The Sheriff’s June 1, 2026 notice confirms that ordinary mail moved to Pigeonly effective February 23, 2026; ordinary mail arriving directly at the jail after March 25, 2026 is returned. The provider scans and prints copies for delivery. Keep originals of irreplaceable documents. Use the PFN, not a booking number, in the address.
| Mail type | Exact routing | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary letters and eligible photos | Resident’s full name and PFN Santa Rita County Jail – 2300 PO Box 96777 Las Vegas, NV 89193 | Include your full return name/address. Do not use the jail’s street address for ordinary correspondence. |
| Legal/privileged mail | Resident’s full name and PFN Santa Rita Jail 5325 Broder Blvd. Dublin, CA 94568 | Send directly to the jail. Current county notice requires privileged-sender Pigeonly authentication. |
| Publisher/distributor books, magazines, newspapers | Resident’s full name and PFN Santa Rita Jail 5325 Broder Blvd. Dublin, CA 94568 | Approved commercial dispatch directly to jail; do not send books through the scanning PO box. |
Privileged senders use the Pigeonly verification service for identity/credential authentication and a unique mailing code/barcode. Follow its label instructions; calling an ordinary family letter “legal” does not make it privileged. Policy 17.01, revised December 9, 2025, requires staff to show incoming legal mail sealed, obtain the resident’s acknowledgment and open/inspect it in their presence. The envelope is retained until release/transfer; contraband is referred for investigation. Tri-Valley Haven correspondence receives specifically confidential handling.
For outgoing confidential correspondence, the resident tells the housing deputy before sealing, supplies their name/PFN and marks the envelope “Confidential.” The deputy visually checks for contraband without reading, witnesses sealing and adds initials/badge number. Missing verification returns it to housing for correction. Mail to the Sheriff, jail officials or Tri-Valley Haven does not require postage under this policy.
Incorrect identification/PFN can cause unopened return without notice to the resident. For prohibited but nonillegal contents, policy provides return of the entire item and a notice to sender and resident; illegal contents may be retained for investigation. Keep the notice and envelope, and ask the resident to send a Message Request to the Mail Room Clerk or use the grievance process for an unresolved problem.
Pigeonly’s facility guide says originals are never returned, but its current parcel-request service offers requests within a 45-day storage period, with at least 7 days remaining, only to the original return address. Request as early as possible; it describes a free return attempt or the sender’s prepaid USPS label. This is an unresolved provider conflict, not a guarantee Santa Rita mail can be recovered. Ask Pigeonly at 800-323-9895 or 702-514-4291 before sending an irreplaceable item.

| Item | Current provider limit |
|---|---|
| Envelope / letter | Envelope no larger than 4 × 9.5 inches; letter paper no larger than 8.5 × 11 inches. |
| Greeting card / postcard | Greeting card no larger than 5 × 7 inches; provider specifies 5 × 7-inch postcards. |
| Photos | 4 × 6 inches; maximum 10 per parcel. Jail policy additionally states 10 per correspondence per day. No Polaroids or altered/covered images. |
| Paperback books and magazines | Jail policy: maximum 6 combined per day, directly from publisher or legitimate online bookstore that sells and ships itself. No hardcovers or third-party redirectors. |
| Newspapers | Approved publisher/distributor, direct jail address; policy specifies USPS delivery. |
Use plain paper and an ordinary envelope. Photos printed by third-party services such as Shutterfly are prohibited by the provider. Do not include cash, cards, identity documents, stamps, blank stationery, newspaper clippings, glitter, glue, stickers, waxed paper, objects, staples, perfume/stains, musical/pop-up/oversized cards, Express/Priority packaging or bubble mailers. Avoid crayon, marker and gel-pen drawings under jail policy. The older policy’s larger paper allowance predates scanning: use the newer provider format above. Prohibited sexual, threatening, gang or violence-promoting material can be rejected.
For books, require a professional shipping label, resident name/PFN and the direct jail address. A marketplace listing does not prove the seller itself is an approved shipper. Confirm eligibility before paying for a subscription or ordering to a person about to transfer. Mail for someone released/transferred is returned under the jail policy, not promised forwarding.
For food/hygiene gifts, use the live iCare facility catalog only after matching Alameda/Santa Rita and the resident. The county’s commissary contract describes iCare packages conditioned on eligibility/conduct; it does not authorize homemade or ordinary retail parcels. The current catalog controls available items, price, limits and delivery/refund terms. A current facility-specific order cutoff, spending cap and return policy were not verified publicly; save the receipt and contact the seller before replacing a delayed order.

ConnectNetwork Alameda now provides a verified Trust Fund option. Create/sign into your account, select Alameda and the correct resident, choose Trust Fund, review the fee and submit once. The provider says automated deposits are transmitted within 1 business day; facility availability may differ. Trust deposits are final and not refunded to the sender. A pending deposit is a reason to check the receipt/support, not immediately pay twice.
Policy 2.02, revised December 19, 2024, also describes lobby deposits: bring photo ID, resident name/PFN, check the cash-received voucher and sign only after checking the amount and person. It lists cash, cashier’s checks and money orders. No current public lobby money-counter hours, maximum or kiosk/card acceptance was verified; call 925-551-6500 before carrying funds there.
Mailed money orders/cashier’s checks in the published policy must be payable to “Alameda County Sheriff’s Office” for the resident’s name/PFN; personal checks are rejected. The February 2026 ordinary-mail change does not clearly restate where mailed funds must now go. Confirm the current money-order address with jail Accounting before mailing; do not put payment in Pigeonly ordinary mail.
The December 19, 2024 commissary policy defines indigence as less than $9.75 on the regular commissary day and not receiving an online order. The resident requests the maintenance kit through the phone ordering process before 10 PM the night before delivery; disability-related ordering help goes to the ADA Coordinator. Kits include basic hygiene supplies and writing materials; security restrictions can affect razors. No money is required for the indigent kit.
The published delivery groups are Monday: housing units 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35; Friday: OPHU and units 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9. Holidays or the current posted unit schedule may change delivery. Report a shortage using a Commissary Message Request or discrepancy form.
The same policy gives $175 weekly in section D.3 and $150 in N.5. This review cannot choose between them. Ask Commissary/Reentry & Support Services through 925-551-6500 for the current limit before a large deposit. Separately, mail policy provides 4 postage-paid envelopes and 8 sheets weekly for indigent family correspondence and unlimited postage/paper for attorney/court correspondence, ordered at no charge.
Residents can ask housing staff for an account balance using a Message Request. To release money to someone outside, submit a Property Release Request, obtain ITR Sergeant approval and name the recipient; the money authorization is valid for 60 days under policy 2.02. The recipient needs government photo ID and signs the disbursement receipt. At discharge, Accounting pays the remaining jail balance after identification and signature. Vending tokens are not refunded on release/transfer under commissary policy; that restriction is not a forfeiture of the entire trust balance.

Parking, current transit and useful local contacts.
Navigate to Santa Rita Jail, 5325 Broder Blvd., Dublin, CA 94568, and use posted public visitor access. Do not substitute the East County Hall of Justice at 5151 Gleason Drive or the Public Defender’s 5149 Gleason office. The Sheriff describes a public lobby, entrance ramp, visitor parking area and disabled parking spaces; Roots locates Safe Landing in the jail parking lot.
For ramp assistance or an accessible arrival arrangement, call 925-551-6500 before the appointment. Follow current lot signs and staff directions. No current parking charge, designated visitor-space number, locker price or exact release pickup bay was verified, so this guide does not promise free parking or a particular gate.
The visiting page prohibits loitering in vehicles or the parking lot, except its stated disabled-placard parking exception. Ask staff where a driver may wait and where a released person will emerge. Secure phones/bags before screening, and arrange supervision for children and a reachable driver. Leave time to return from the lot and pass screening; a map arrival time is not the visit check-in time.

Wheels Route 1 links Dublin/Pleasanton BART, Hacienda Drive, East County Hall of Justice and the named Santa Rita Jail stop. Use Dublin/Pleasanton BART for this route; the courthouse is a different stop. The current operator table has weekday and weekend jail service and no weekend courthouse service. Jail policy describes the public bus/taxi stops at the front of the jail; it does not document every curb-to-ramp detail. Arrange mobility assistance with the lobby before travel.

These are published timetable departures, not live arrivals or a guarantee after delayed visiting/release. The last bus also needs a usable onward BART connection. Check the operator’s trip planner/alerts on the travel day and keep a backup ride.
Wheels customer service: 925-455-7500, Monday–Friday 5 AM–7 PM. Current fares: regular single ride $2.50, day pass $4.00; children under 6 ride free. Reduced fares require eligibility. Cash needs exact change; the current fare page also supports Clipper and contactless bank-card payment. Cash does not provide a transfer; Clipper transfer conditions differ. The old 2021 jail-release policy’s bus times and dollar thresholds do not establish current fares.
Roots describes a Safe Landing shuttle to Dublin BART and Oakland. An April 10 letter for the May 12, 2026 Board agenda describes Monday–Saturday 8 AM–midnight service for released people and family visitors; an older program document excludes Roots holidays. These are dated service/contract descriptions, not a verified live departure or family reservation. Ask Safe Landing staff/jail Reentry & Support Services to confirm the day’s ride and pickup before depending on it.

Clinical communication, complaints and programs.
Immediate risk inside Santa Rita: call 925-551-6500, state the person’s name/PFN and urgent concern, and ask for the Watch Commander and medical/behavioral health staff. Residents should alert nearby staff immediately about a medical emergency, withdrawal danger, self-harm risk or threat. Do not wait for an ordinary request or Ombuds callback when urgent protection is needed.
| Need | Published route |
|---|---|
| Resident routine medical, dental or behavioral care | Policy 13.01: Inmate Request for Health Care form 455-001, submitted to the sick-call box or medical personnel. Inmate-initiated visits are free under the published policy. |
| Adult mental-health information | County directory: Adult Mental Health Santa Rita Clinic, 925-551-6740. For urgent safety use jail staff as well. |
| Medication/history from family | Ask the jail to route information to clinical staff. Have medication name/dose, last dose, pharmacy/prescriber, allergies, diagnoses and urgent changes ready. A family report does not authorize dropping off medicine. |
| Medical records or updates | Ask the treating provider for its current consent/release-of-information process. Policy 13.02 keeps clinical records separate and confidential and generally requires written authorization for community-provider transfer. |
A clinician may receive useful information while being unable to disclose the person’s condition to you. No current adult family medication-information fax or approved medicine-dropoff procedure was verified. County behavioral-health records have the request process below; physical-health records and current clinical updates require the treating provider’s own authorization process. The publicly posted ACSO criminal-investigation medical authorization is not a routine family consent form; do not substitute it. Ask the adult clinic/provider for the correct route.
Policy 13.04 was revised March 16, 2026. Report pregnancy, postpartum symptoms or lactation needs to medical staff promptly. It provides OB-GYN care and a lactation program: a manual pump and private space; a family-supplied electric pump requires the Operations Captain and Medical Director’s approval. Arrange it through medical staff before bringing equipment.
Medical staff label and freeze collected milk. The infant’s caregiver must sign the provider’s milk-transfer commitment and collect it within 7 days; uncollected milk is disposed of. Confirm the actual pickup location/time and transport instructions with medical staff. This is separate from the visitor allowance of 1 diaper and 1 bottle.
Before discharge, request prescriptions/medication, follow-up appointments and transfer of records to the chosen community clinician with appropriate authorization. The release policy provides help with serious/life-threatening conditions and limited medication when needed; it does not guarantee a particular supply for every patient. Ask early about continuing mental-health and substance-use treatment.
Policy 13.15 provides clinical assessment for necessary devices and a Medical Detail Slip for approved use. If a device is removed for an immediate security concern, it requires a physician examination within 24 hours and consideration of an appropriate alternative. The December 3, 2025 ADA policy says a denied personal assistive device requires an immediate similar replacement and ADA Coordinator notification; the resident and prescribing clinician must receive the reason, and a Petition for Return of Prosthesis form is available. For missing glasses, hearing equipment or mobility assistance, ask clinical staff and the ADA Coordinator to assess the need now; arrange any family delivery in advance.
Alameda County Behavioral Health provides Santa Rita’s adult behavioral-health service. For its records, complete, date and sign the county’s English or Spanish disclosure authorization, identifying the records requested. Mailed/faxed requests need a copy of government-issued ID. Records desk: 510-567-6884; fax 510-777-2208; Custodian of Records, 2000 Embarcadero, Suite 400, Oakland, CA 94606; Monday–Friday 8 AM–5 PM, excluding holidays. Allow 15 calendar days. Someone collecting records for the patient needs an original signed authorization letter from the patient and government photo ID. This records fax is not an emergency or medication-reporting line.
The county publishes a separate authorization for psychotherapy notes, in English and Spanish. Ask the records desk which form covers what you need; some requests also require clinician approval. For substance-use treatment records, the county directs the request to the treating provider. Neither form is a shortcut to current medical updates or a family medication-reporting line.

Urgent danger: 925-551-6500 and the Watch Commander. Sheriff dispatch is 510-667-7721. For nonemergency family concerns, Ombuds is 510-667-4373 or the Ombuds form. Give your callback, resident name/PFN, the issue and prior attempts/results. The office asks for one call or form per issue and is not staffed around the clock. Ombuds contact does not replace the resident’s grievance/appeal.
ADA complaints receive specialist routing: review for urgent needs within 7 days; urgent response within 48 hours excluding weekends/holidays if not handled immediately; nonemergency response within 10 days or an extension notice. Request help if disability prevents written/electronic filing.
Emergency grievances have no filing time limit. Family, counsel or advocates may assist, with the resident’s consent/cooperation for the grievance process. Non-PREA emergency grievances, including safety threats and alleged overdetention, receive an initial response within 48 hours excluding weekends/holidays and a final decision within 5 calendar days under policy. That paperwork timetable does not postpone immediate protection.
For sexual abuse, harassment or retaliation, report immediately to staff, dispatch or the Sheriff’s adult PREA form. General Order 1.23 accepts verbal, written, anonymous and third-party reports and imposes no time limit on sexual-abuse reports. Residents can dial *89 from the jail phone for the outside rape-crisis route. Ask the advocate about confidentiality and mandatory-reporting limits.
PREA complaints receive their own tracking and immediate supervisory protection/investigation; an accused staff member must not investigate the allegation against themselves. Do not apply the ordinary 21-day deadline or the non-PREA 48-hour/5-day disposition timetable to PREA. Confidential mail to Tri-Valley Haven is protected under mail policy: 3663 Pacific Avenue, Livermore, CA 94551. Preserve evidence and seek medical help; reporting does not require a family investigation first.

The published Reentry & Support Services policies cover education, vocational training, religious services, counseling/social services, recreation, library and legal-resource access. Residents obtain applications from housing staff; staff forward them to the unit. Ask for the current unit program calendar, eligibility, waiting list and an accessible alternative if the ordinary format is unusable. A program listed in policy does not guarantee an immediate place in every housing unit.
Use Message Request ML-76 for specific needs: legal materials to Inmate Services; a mail discrepancy to the Mail Room Clerk; housing changes to Classification; custody/account questions to housing staff. The January 8, 2025 policy also names parenting, education/vocational, substance-use and Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program requests. The request is not approval for release or outside work.
Participation in optional programs is voluntary under policy 18.02; court-ordered requirements are separate. Reentry & Support Services also coordinates chaplains, notary access, library services and voting information for residents determined eligible by the Registrar. Ask staff for the appropriate request rather than asking a family visitor to deliver unapproved supplies or act as a legal courier.

Counsel, bail, belongings, discharge and reentry.
Use the case number and actual court assignment. The Superior Court criminal page lists branch contacts; East County Hall of Justice is 5151 Gleason Drive, Dublin, with criminal clerk 925-227-6792. Santa Rita housing does not mean every hearing is there. Confirm courtroom, date, time and attendance instructions with the clerk/counsel.
The Public Defender says to ask the judge for appointed counsel and call the relevant office if the attorney is unknown. Main office: 510-272-6600. Dublin: 925-551-6863, 5149 Gleason Drive #C155, interviews Monday–Friday 9–11 AM and 2–4 PM. Give name/PFN and case number; a relative’s call does not itself establish representation or permission to disclose confidential case strategy.
Policy 11.18, revised June 4, 2024, lists US cash, valid surety bail bonds, US Treasury bonds and certified bank cashier’s/official checks, plus court-initiated property bonds. Cashier’s checks must be payable to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office for the exact amount or less with the difference in cash; staff give no change. For a “Cash Only” order, the policy accepts US cash or certified bank cashier’s checks, not an ordinary surety bond. Property-bond orders must come directly from Superior Court, not from a relative’s copy.
Call 925-551-6500 and ask the bail desk to confirm the exact case, current court order, every hold, accepted tender and amount, ID and receiving location before obtaining a check. A commissary deposit does not post bail. Keep the receipt and confirm the registered depositor and next court dates. Ask the receiving court about eventual bail return; a private bondsman’s premium is a separate contract, not a jail trust balance.
The court describes citation, own-recognizance and supervised pretrial routes as case-dependent. Counsel can address eligibility and financial circumstances; this guide does not turn a bail schedule or a past emergency zero-bail announcement into an automatic release rule. The Sheriff’s July 1, 2026 warning identifies fake demands for an electronic ankle monitor to release a loved one. Independently call the jail; report the demand to 510-667-7721.

Under policy 11.16, revised November 12, 2025, the resident completes PD-132 Property Release Request, naming the recipient and property/money/clothing. Housing forwards it for ITR Sergeant approval, then the lobby receives the approved form. Before travel, call 925-551-6500 to confirm authorization, available items and the pickup window; no ordinary property-counter schedule was verified. The recipient presents photo ID, signs the release and receives a receipt. Evidence retained by an arresting/investigating agency is a separate process.
Court clothing: the policy permits an approved exchange 24 hours a day, but no earlier than 72 hours before a preliminary examination or trial. Submit PD-132 first. It is a one-for-one exchange; the person bringing clothes must accept the old clothes or the exchange cannot proceed. Do not treat this as a general permission to bring clothes at any time for release. Family-supplied medical footwear requires clinical/security approval.
At release, compare every item with the property receipt in staff’s presence. A missing listed item is marked “UTL” and the person receives a Lost Property or Clothing Information form; ask for the report/reference and keep copies. If property is later found, policy requires a Found Property Letter, proper ID and, for an authorized representative, the owner’s signed authorization. The policy’s claim period is 120 days from the notice letter; do not wait until the deadline. Unclaimed-property policy has additional notice/disposal rules, including special next-of-kin handling after death, so confirm the specific notice date and claimant documents with Property.

The release policy provides welfare clothing when stored clothes are missing, inadequate for the weather or no longer fit, and staff assistance for residents with mobility, vision or hearing disabilities at the property/accounting handoff. It calls for behavioral-health notification and help with serious medical follow-up. State the need before reaching the exit; these provisions do not establish a guaranteed housing placement.

Roots’ Safe Landing operates transition services in the Santa Rita parking lot: supplies, benefits enrollment, Coordinated Entry housing assessment and linkage to physical/behavioral health, care management and housing. Its current provider page also describes shuttle service to Dublin BART and Oakland. A housing assessment is not an immediate bed, and a service listing does not guarantee a ride at every release hour.
The April 10 letter for the May 12, 2026 Board agenda describes Monday–Saturday 8 AM–midnight shuttle coverage including family visitors. Current dispatch contact, holiday operation, pickup frequency and reservation rules were not confirmed by the provider page. Ask jail Reentry & Support Services through 925-551-6500 or staff at Safe Landing before relying on that dated service span. Have a second plan when the service is unavailable.
Policy 18.16, last revised October 12, 2021, provides Wheels/BART tickets through the release Accounting Clerk according to release cash: $0.00–$1.99 both; $2.00–$6.69 BART; $6.70–$8.69 Wheels; $8.70 or more neither. This is a dated published assistance rule, not a current fare chart. The same document’s bus hours are outdated compared with Wheels’ current timetable. Ask Accounting whether those eligibility thresholds and ticket method still apply; do not presume assistance from balance alone.
Before leaving, ask about benefits, identification, food, shelter, medication continuity, substance-use treatment and the next court/probation appointment. The jail’s Reentry & Support Services policy calls for printed pre- and post-release service information. Roots’ Healthy Measures Warm Handoff offers health navigation and help with barriers to work/housing; enrollment and availability must be confirmed. Keep discharge and appointment papers together and give providers a safe callback method.
For a community medical appointment or to ask about Roots navigation after release, its published clinical contact is 510-777-1177. This is a medical/general service contact, not a verified Santa Rita shuttle dispatch line. Tell staff if medication is running out or you need help connecting to ongoing care.
The County identifies FERC as free support for families navigating behavioral-health care. Its reentry navigators help caregivers prepare for a loved one's return and connect with services.

| Behavioral-health reentry treatment | BACS Re-Entry Treatment Team: RTTreferrals@bayareacs.org | Ask about referral requirements for a person with behavioral-health needs and a criminal-justice history. |
Share the expected release date, intended community and a safe callback first; ask how to transmit sensitive records. These are navigation/referral contacts, not shuttle dispatch, emergency jail lines or promises of a bed or treatment slot.
