Visiting someone in
Los Angeles County jail.
Plan before you go.

A little preparation can save you a wasted trip. Find the person’s current jail, book a visit through LASD, and check what to bring and when to arrive. This guide covers public visits to the county’s adult jails.

Not sure where they are? Start here

Make the appointment

From finding the person
to confirming your visit.

  1. Find the current facility

Use the LASD locator to check the booked name, date of birth, booking number, and housing location. A booking made within the last two hours may not appear yet. If the location is IRC, wait for a housing assignment before planning a public visit.

Help finding the current housing location →

  2. Register or sign in

On IVVS, choose Register Today if this is your first visit. Have your email address, personal details, and photo ID ready. Returning visitors can sign in with their Visitor ID or email and password.

  3. Add everyone who is coming

Add accompanying visitors in your account, including children, before choosing an appointment. The system will show the options allowed for that visit. A child must be booked with a registered adult.

  4. Choose a time and confirm it

Appointments open up to seven days ahead. Select the person, location, date, and time, then finish the confirmation step. Look for Confirmed in IVVS and save the details; selecting a time alone does not finish the booking.

  5. Check again before leaving

Recheck housing, the appointment, and any LASD visiting notices. Bring the required ID and child documentation, and allow the early check-in time for your facility. Late check-in can mean a canceled visit.

Using the booking website

How to use LASD’s visit booking website.

Choose the task you need help with. These instructions explain LASD’s visitor website; you’ll enter personal details and make the appointment on IVVS itself.

Create your visitor account
  1. On IVVS, select Register Today and enter an email address you can access.
  2. Complete the personal information and identification screens. Choose your ID type and enter the requested details.
  3. Review the information, correct any mistakes, and confirm it is accurate.
  4. Enter the displayed security code and select Finish. Look for the Visitor Added confirmation and check your email for the account message.

Your email is used for sign-in, account messages, and cancellation notices. Your phone number may also be used to notify you of a canceled visit. Keep both current.

Some generic FAQ text mentions in-person registration where online registration is unavailable. That is not permission to arrive for an unscheduled LASD visit. Contact the help desk if registration fails.

Fix a security code, missing email, or password problem

Registration security code: enter uppercase letters and numbers without spaces. The registration FAQ says to use the number 0 rather than the letter O. Refresh for a new code if needed; follow any instructions shown on the particular form you are using.

No registration email: first make sure you reached Visitor Added. Then check the email address you entered and your spam, junk, or bulk folders. Delivery can take several hours. Contact the help desk if it still has not arrived.

Password rejected: passwords are case-sensitive. Use Forgot your Password?, enter the email saved in your account and the security code, then select Reset Password. Check the reset email and return to the login page. Do not send your password to Jail411 or include it in a help request.

Update your email, phone, or other account details

Sign in, open My Account, and select the type of information you want to change. Make the correction and choose Update. Wait for the success message. An old email address or phone number can mean you miss a cancellation notice.

Add someone to “My Inmates”
  1. Open My Account → Manage Inmates → Add to My Inmates.
  2. Enter the Inmate ID if you know it. Otherwise, search by name using at least the first two letters of both the first and last name.
  3. Choose the correct person and select Add. Check that they appear in your list.

Adding a person to your list does not grant visiting approval. If the entry says Not Approved, the FAQ says approval is needed before that person can be selected for a visit. Follow the facility’s approval process; ask the help desk if you are unsure what to do. You can edit or remove entries from Manage My Inmates.

Find a past or canceled appointment

Open Visitation → View Visit History. Select a visit to see its original appointment details. A newly canceled appointment also appears under Canceled Visits until its scheduled time has passed.

Understand account deletion and retained information

ViaPath’s FAQ says it may retain account information for regulatory, legal, investigative, and service-related reasons, and says deletion requests may be denied on that basis. It also states that it does not sell users’ personally identifying information to third parties.

For a request about your own data, use the Privacy Policy and Contact options on IVVS. Jail411 cannot delete or change an IVVS account.

Add another adult who does not have an account

If the adult will only visit with you, open My Account → Manage Visitors and choose the option to register a new adult visitor. Fill in their details and use the add/register button shown. You can edit or remove them from the visitor list.

If they may visit without you, the FAQ recommends that they create their own account. You can then link the two registered visitors by invitation. If you provide an email while adding someone, the system may send them a registration notification.

Link two registered adults and accept an invitation
  1. Both adults must already have separate IVVS accounts.
  2. In Manage Visitors, choose the option to request another visitor, enter their Visitor ID, and select Make Request. The ID appears beside the visitor’s name in their account.
  3. The other adult opens the notification or My Visitors → Waiting for Response and selects Accept. They may also reject or block the request.

Once accepted, the visitor appears in the list and can be included when you schedule. A request that is still waiting for a response is not an accepted invitation.

Register a child and add them to the visit
  1. Open My Account → Manage Visitors.
  2. Under Minor Visitors, choose the option to register a new minor.
  3. Enter the required details and select Register and Add.
  4. Check that the child appears in My Visitors, then include them when scheduling the appointment with a registered adult.

If another user already registered the child, contact the facility to have the child added to your visitor list. A child cannot book a visit independently.

The facility controls the age at which the software treats a visitor as an adult. That setting does not change LASD’s public visiting rule: visitors under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or verifiable legal guardian, with supporting documentation at check-in.

Choose the visitors, time, and location—and finish booking
  1. Open the Visitation tab. Select everyone attending, then select the person you want to visit. If needed, use Search for an Inmate and select the correct result.
  2. On Choose the Date/Time/Location, choose a date. You can narrow the search by visitation center and time range, or choose No Preference.
  3. Select Search, choose an offered appointment, and enter each visitor’s relationship to the person.
  4. Review the details. Use Change or Add Additional to correct the booking; adding a visitor may require choosing the time again.
  5. Accept the facility’s visiting policy and select Confirm. Check that the Summary page says Confirmed and look for the confirmation email.

Some home-page shortcuts allow only one additional visitor. Use the full Visitation process when arranging a larger party; the facility still controls how many people may attend.

If the status says Conflict, choose Change beside the date and time and select another offered slot. If no times appear, try different search options and check the troubleshooting answers below.

Station jail or hospital visit?

The IVVS contact page asks visitors to Sheriff’s stations and the medical center labeled “LCMC” to arrive 45 minutes early; other LASD notices give different instructions for the medical center. Confirm the required check-in time with staff before traveling. For Los Angeles General Medical Center visiting information, call (323) 409-1000. For a station jail, call the station desk.

At check-in: allow time for identification checks, an adult visitor photo, and security screening. A visit can be canceled if you arrive late.

Where to park.

Coming by transit or rideshare? · Babies, accessibility and storage

Allow time to park and reach check-in before your facility’s early-arrival deadline. The parking address may be different from the jail’s street address.

Twin Towers

LASD directs public visitors to the parking structure near Vignes and Bauchet Streets. Follow the signs for public parking; visitors may not use the employee parking structure.

Directions to Vignes and Bauchet ↗

Pitchess facilities and NCCF

Park at the Main Visiting Center and follow the visitor check-in instructions. LASD describes visitors being processed there, then taking facility buses to their visits and back to the visiting center. Allow time for that transfer as well as parking and screening.

Use the check-in location on your appointment confirmation rather than driving straight to a housing building.

Check posted parking rates and payment instructions when you arrive. Current prices have not been confirmed for this guide. For accessible parking or help getting from the parking area to check-in, contact LASD’s visiting accessibility team at (213) 972-2200 before your trip.

Bus, train, taxi or rideshare

Getting there without a car.

Plan for the time you need to check in, not just the appointment time. Include transfers, the walk from your stop, and the return journey. Weekend service may differ from weekday service.

Downtown jails and CRDF

Use Metro’s trip planner with your travel date and the facility address: 441 Bauchet Street for Men’s Central Jail, 450 Bauchet Street for Twin Towers, or 11705 South Alameda Street, Lynwood for CRDF.

A route to the street address may stop short of visitor check-in. Check the final walking portion and ask visiting staff which public entrance to use. This guide has not verified a step-free route from a transit stop to those entrances.

Pitchess and NCCF

Start with Santa Clarita Transit’s trip-planning options. Confirm how you will reach the Main Visiting Center shown on your booking; do not assume a regional bus takes you to the housing building.

The LASD visitor buses described above take visitors between the visiting center and the facilities. Plan the trip to the visiting center separately, and allow time for the facility bus back before your ride home.

Being dropped off or picked up

Give your driver the facility name and confirmed visitor check-in location. Ask visiting staff where a taxi or rideshare may safely stop and where you should meet your return ride. A parking address is not a confirmed passenger loading zone.

Arrange your pickup plan before entering. Phones cannot go into visiting or transportation areas, so decide where yours will be kept and how you will contact your driver after the visit.

Need help planning the trip?

Santa Clarita Transit lists 511 for regional travel information in Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties. Have your starting address, destination, travel date and required arrival time ready.

For the jail entrance, accessible drop-off or help reaching check-in, contact LASD’s visiting accessibility team at (213) 972-2200, Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Pacific.

Before you leave home

Bring the right ID. Pack light.

Accepted photo identification

LASD lists these valid photo IDs:

  • A driver’s license from any U.S. state
  • A California identification card
  • U.S. military identification
  • A passport or visa
  • A Mexican consulate card
  • A permanent resident card

Use the same identifying details in your registration and at check-in.

Bringing children

Register children and include them in the appointment. LASD’s public visitor policy says visitors under 18 must stay with a parent or verifiable legal guardian. Bring documentation of that relationship for check-in.

Keep children with you and supervised. Do not leave them alone in a vehicle or lobby. Ask the facility about any unusual guardianship situation before booking.

Clothing and belongings

Wear a shirt and shoes. Avoid gang-related or inappropriate clothing. Phones, cameras, recording devices, radios, purses, backpacks, briefcases, and other personal belongings are not allowed in visiting or transportation areas.

Leave prohibited items outside those areas. Weapons, drugs, alcohol, and contraband must not be brought onto jail grounds; glass containers are prohibited in the visiting area.

Security and conduct

Expect screening of visitors and belongings; vehicles on jail grounds may also be searched. Follow staff directions, keep your voice down, do not smoke or litter, and enter visiting areas only with a valid pass. Do not damage county property.

Rule violations can end a visit or affect future visiting privileges. Give truthful registration and booking information; LASD warns that false information can lead to arrest. Check current health and visiting notices before traveling.

See LASD’s public visitation policy ↗ for the full requirements.

A few details to settle ahead of time

Babies, medical needs and belongings.

Visiting with a baby

Men’s Central Jail’s visiting rules specifically exclude baby bags, strollers, food, drinks and glass containers from the visiting area. Before traveling with an infant, call the MCJ visiting lobby at (213) 974-4927 to discuss feeding, diapers and any essential supplies.

For another facility, ask its visiting staff about carriers, strollers, bottles and diaper supplies. Permission at one jail does not establish what another jail will allow.

Medication or medical equipment

If you need medication or a medical device during the trip or visit, contact LASD before traveling. Explain what you need to keep with you and ask about screening, any documentation and the arrangement for your particular facility.

Do not interpret the general belongings restrictions as advice to go without necessary medication or equipment. Discuss an accommodation with (213) 972-2200 or [email protected] before your visit.

Mobility assistance at Pitchess

LASD’s Main Visiting Center procedures provide a separate check-in approach for visitors with mobility impairments through the center metal-detector corridor. Tell screening staff you need assistance; they can involve the visiting sergeant.

After receiving your stamped pass, check with the bus-loading deputies for assistance and front-of-line positioning. Staff can also help with the exit gate when a wheelchair will not fit through the turnstile. Contact the accessibility team in advance about your equipment and bus boarding needs.

Lockers and storage

LASD’s family guidance recommends bringing quarters for lockers at Twin Towers and CRDF. The tip is in an older guide still published on its custody page, so confirm current availability, price and size before relying on a locker. Storage at the other facilities has not been confirmed.

If you are coming by transit or rideshare, ask visiting staff where you can secure your phone, bag or stroller before leaving home. Ask whether storage is available to public visitors, what fits and how to pay. Bring only what you need, and keep your ID and required child documents ready for check-in.

These practical details were checked against LASD and transit-operator information on September 21, 2026. Confirm individual arrangements with visiting staff before traveling.

When you need approval first

Visitor clearance and special arrangements.

Probation, parole, or a past felony

LASD asks visitors on probation or parole, and visitors it describes as ex-felons, to complete a visiting clearance form before visiting a county jail or patrol station. Start with the Visiting Clearance Form link on the IVVS home page and ask the help desk about approval before making travel plans. If the form will not open, ask the help desk for a current copy.

Find the clearance form on IVVS ↗

Scheduled marriages

LASD allows pre-approved, scheduled marriages with one adult, one minister, and one adult witness. Arrange approval first, then follow LASD’s scheduling instructions. A regular visit reservation does not replace marriage approval.

Attorneys and professional visitors

Professional visits have a separate schedule and registration process. Use the Professional Visitor option in IVVS and LASD’s professional visiting hours rather than the public schedule above.

Common questions

When plans don’t
go as expected.

A reservation can change if the person moves or the facility’s visiting arrangements change. Check IVVS before setting out.

Based on the IVVS FAQ and help desk guidance.

Can I visit without an appointment?

No. LASD requires a scheduled public visit. Register and book through IVVS before traveling.

How long is a visit?

The IVVS help desk describes two 30-minute visits per week. Availability, housing changes, and restrictions can affect a particular visit; check the appointment offered for the person you are visiting.

Why are no appointment times showing?

Slots may be full, the selected time may be outside visiting hours, a visit limit may have been reached, or a restriction may apply. Try another available date or time. Limits or restrictions can apply to either the person in custody or a visitor. If the problem continues, contact the IVVS help desk.

What if I need to cancel?

Open the appointment’s Summary page in IVVS and choose Cancel Visit, or use the red X beside the upcoming visit. Confirm the cancellation when prompted. Cancellation options may be restricted close to the visit. If someone has transferred, check the new location before arranging another appointment.

Why was my visit canceled?

A release, transfer, restriction, unavailable visiting station, or schedule change can cancel a visit. Keep your email and phone number current for notifications, and check IVVS again before leaving home.

Is IVVS the same account I use for phone calls?

No. IVVS, powered by ViaPath Technologies, is for visit registration and scheduling. The ConnectNetwork prepaid phone account listed for LASD (Site ID 111) is a separate service. Use the county phone-call guide for help with calls.

Does booking in IVVS mean I can visit from home?

Do not assume so. Check the location and visit type on the appointment confirmation. If they are unclear, ask the facility or IVVS help desk before making plans.

Can I visit someone at IRC?

IRC handles intake and temporary holding and has no public visiting. Wait until the person has a housing assignment at a location that offers visits.

Find the location on your booking.

These are facility street addresses. Follow the check-in location on your appointment confirmation, especially for the Pitchess campus. IRC is listed for intake information only.
