An urgent medical or safety concern
For an urgent healthcare concern in LASD custody, call Medical Command immediately with the booking number, facility and specific concern. For sexual abuse or harassment, family members may report to any LASD staff member or to Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers. A complaint form is not a substitute for an urgent call.

No search result, a transfer or no contact
- Check legal name, spelling and date of birth. Bookings within the last two hours may not appear in the LASD locator.
- Call the arresting agency if the person may still be in municipal holding. Ask whether they were released or transferred, to which agency, and when.
- For an LASD housing or transfer question, call custody information. A missing online result or a missed call does not prove release.
- Recheck housing before using an old appointment, address or service account. If the concern is medical, use the urgent healthcare route.

A denied or canceled visit
- Open IVVS and check whether the appointment still says Confirmed. Confirm housing and that every adult and child is included.
- Keep the appointment number and any cancellation message. Ask whether the issue concerns the account, identification, clearance, a facility restriction or the schedule.
- For registration or booking errors contact the IVVS Help Desk. For an entrance, screening or day-of issue contact the facility visiting desk. Ask what must change before a new appointment.

A missing deposit or wrong payment
- Keep the transaction number, amount, date, payment method and recipient booking number. Check whether it is pending, completed or rejected.
- Contact Access Corrections about its transaction. For mailed payments or withdrawals, contact the accepting IRC or CRDF cashier. Do not send a second payment just because the first is not immediately visible.
- Ask for the reason, the next action, a reference number and the expected follow-up. Refund eligibility depends on the actual transaction and provider terms.

A call does not connect
Verify the receiving number, phone blocks or spam filters, and the current facility. Record the error and time of the attempt. LA County funds jail telephone calls; adding prepaid credit is not the first troubleshooting step. Use the calling guide for provider support.
Returned mail or a package problem
For personal mail, keep the return notice and check the name, booking number, address and contents. A sender may appeal a rejected book, periodical or publication within 15 days of receiving the Returned Mail Notification; the mail guide explains the required details.
For a vendor package, use its order number and contact the package provider. The person receiving the order should report missing or damaged items to facility staff; ask the provider which facility documentation it needs.

A complaint or family emergency message
For a complaint, record the facility, date, time, names or descriptions, what happened, witnesses and any reference numbers. Use LASD’s public complaint process to submit it. Keep a copy and request a tracking reference.
For an urgent family message such as a death or critical illness outside custody, contact the facility and ask for the watch commander or the appropriate message process. Have a callback number and information that staff can verify. Delivery of a message or a special visit is not guaranteed.
Confirm their current facility.
