Facility information, not live custody records.
Before you leave home

Custody search
Open the Sheriff’s Incarcerated People search ↗ in CrimeGraphics. That is the county-jail custody tab; the Arrests tab shows Sheriff arrests only. Juvenile offenders are not included, and Jail411 does not hold live inmate records.
If you cannot find the person, call (209) 223-6522. Ask whether they are currently here and write down the booked name, block and cell number for mail. The Sheriff’s older “Inmates and Crime Graphics” link leads to the current CitizenRIMS service.
For someone at Mule Creek (4001 Highway 104, Ione) or Pine Grove (13630 Aqueduct-Volcano Road), use CDCR’s CIRIS search ↗ and state-facility instructions. For youth placement, call Probation at (209) 223-6387. Amador has no local juvenile hall; Preston is closed.
The jail’s state-rated capacity is 76: 65 male and 11 female spaces. The Sheriff describes the facility under Title 15 standards. Capacity is not a current population count.
Visiting
Each person may receive two 30-minute visits per week at 700 Court Street, Jackson. Regular visits start and end as close to the half-hour as practical. Security needs can end visiting at any time.
| Housing | Saturday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|
| Male | 8:30–10:30 a.m. 12:30–3:30 p.m. | 12:30–5:30 p.m. |
| Female | 3:30–5:30 p.m. | 8:30–10:30 a.m. |
Male and female special-housing visits run Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m. Call (209) 223-6521 from 8 a.m. each Friday. A one-hour visit may be scheduled when available.
Bring photo identification and leave bags in the car. A maximum of two visitors may use a booth at once. A civilian visitor may make one visit per day, even when hoping to see more than one person.
If you arrive late, you may join the current session when a booth is free, but the visit will not be extended. Otherwise, wait for the next half-hour. No regular Monday–Thursday social visiting window is listed.
Visitors must be 18 or older unless accompanied by a parent or guardian who can show guardianship. People currently on probation, parole or AB109 supervision, and anyone confined here within the last 60 days, cannot visit.
The jail’s visiting policy requires arrangements for visitors with disabilities and refers accommodation requests to a supervisor. Call (209) 223-6522 before traveling to explain what you need.
Ask the jail whether remote video visits are available and how to arrange one. A public family scheduling service is not identified. The jail’s policy allows video when applicable and says it cannot replace the in-person minimum under Penal Code § 4032 and 15 CCR 1062.
The March 2022 Custody Manual identifies Securus tablets inside the jail. That does not identify a family phone-account or video-booking service. Do not use CDCR’s visiting app for this jail.
Phone calls
People housed here may make collect or credit-card calls during these hours. Phones may be turned off for safety or security. Call (209) 223-6522 to ask how to receive calls and which service to use. Do not expect the lobby to take messages for someone inside.
The jail’s information says arrested people are entitled to three free local calls or three collect long-distance calls within three hours of arrest. After booking, calls can help arrange bail, contact an attorney or notify family.
Personal calls may be monitored and recorded. The jail’s policy excludes calls to attorneys, physicians, clergy, sexual-assault counselors and psychotherapists from monitoring. A person in custody may request an unmonitored phone for these calls.
A family-facing phone provider is not identified. Ask before paying a company; the Securus tablet reference does not establish the phone provider.
Letters and publications
Write the person’s booked name, block and cell number clearly. Include your full name and complete return address. Keep the booking number available when asking the jail to confirm housing.
Inmate name, block & cell numberIncoming mail is processed Monday through Thursday. Mail without a return address is held with the person’s property until release. Confidential legal and official mail is inspected for contraband in the person’s presence and is not read.
Publications, magazines and newspapers may come directly from the publisher, addressed to the person at the jail. Publisher books and periodicals use the same street address, with the person named.
For someone without money, the jail provides postage for three personal letters per week and does not restrict legal mail. Its manual also describes a weekly kit with at least two pre-stamped envelopes, two sheets of paper and a pencil, with no limit on attorney or court postage.
Do not send jail mail to 500 Argonaut Lane (courthouse), 708 Court Street (District Attorney), 675 New York Ranch Road (Probation) or 810 Court Street (county administration). Mule Creek’s 4001 Highway 104 and P.O. Box 409099 addresses, and Pine Grove’s P.O. Box 1040, belong to separate state facilities. County youth mail also follows the instructions for the youth’s actual placement.
Money and commissary
Confirm the person is still here and have their booking information ready. The jail’s deposit service is SmartDeposit / Access Corrections.
Lobby kiosk: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., and during visiting hours. Ask about accepted card brands before relying on a particular card.
Open SmartDeposit / Access Corrections ↗ or call (866) 394-0490.
Facility: JAQ
Pay location: 5500
The jail stopped taking counter and U.S. Mail deposits on July 1, 2014. Do not mail cash, checks or money orders. JAQ is for this jail, not Mule Creek, Pine Grove or a youth placement.
Bail, release and belongings
Confirm custody before posting cash or a licensed California surety bond. Bail does not guarantee release if a probation, parole or out-of-county hold applies. An ICE detainer alone is not a lawful California hold under Government Code § 7284.6.
For court questions, call the Criminal Division at (209) 257-2604 or general information at (209) 257-2600. The courthouse is at 500 Argonaut Lane.
Call the jail at (209) 223-6522 to confirm pickup hours and what to bring. Use the same number for property and remaining commissary questions.
Jackson Police’s vehicle and property hours—Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., at 33D Broadway—are for a different agency and do not establish jail pickup hours.
For a warrant, the court describes surrendering to a Sheriff’s Department or filing an Ex Parte Application to Place Matter on Calendar. Alternative Sentencing is handled by Probation at 675 New York Ranch Road, (209) 223-6387, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Home Electronic Monitoring applications go to the Sheriff, not the court.
Court and legal help
500 Argonaut Lane, Jackson, CA 95642. Three courtrooms handle all case types. Use the eCourt portal (login required) ↗ with a case number or party name. The Department 1 in-custody calendar is at 1:30 p.m. on listed weekdays; mass arraignments are Monday at 10 a.m. and Friday at 8:30 a.m. Remote Zoom appearances are offered. Check the calendar for your case.
General: (209) 257-2600. Criminal: (209) 257-2604. Traffic: (209) 257-2605. Court appearances are separate from jail visits.
Ask the court at the first criminal appearance if you cannot afford a lawyer. The judge considers income, expenses and other factors, including whether you must contribute toward fees.
The Public Defender’s office is at 201 Clinton Road, Suite 202, Jackson, CA 95642, in the DMV Building. Ask the Criminal Division for the appointed-counsel contact; the court directory does not supply a public phone.
The courthouse location page lists Monday–Friday building hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and clerk/phone hours of 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The Criminal Division page separately lists public access of 8 a.m.–3 p.m. and clerk phones of 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Call if arriving near closing.
District Attorney Todd Riebe’s office is at 708 Court Street, Jackson, CA 95642: (209) 223-6444; fax (209) 223-6304. Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
District Attorney directions ↗
Victim Witness is in Suite 101, (209) 223-6474, during the same hours, for CalVCB and court-escort help.
675 New York Ranch Road, Jackson, CA 95642: (209) 223-6387. Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. This office handles Alternative Sentencing and county youth-placement questions. Probation is separate from state parole.
Follow the office named in the release papers. The September 11, 2026 CDCR directory lists no Amador, Jackson or Ione office. Nearby listed offices include Stockton, 612 Carlton Avenue, Stockton, CA 95203, (209) 948-7652; and Auburn & Sierra GPS, 1915 Grass Valley Highway, Suite 500, Auburn, CA 95603, (530) 823-4188.
Planning and support
Amador Transit’s fixed routes run Monday–Friday. Route 6 serves Sutter Hill, Martell, Jackson and Sutter Creek on weekdays except major holidays. Regular jail visits are on Saturday and Sunday, so arrange a weekend ride rather than relying on that weekday schedule. Call (209) 267-9395 for current options.
Dial-a-Ride offers shared curb-to-curb service to qualified passengers whose disability or health condition limits fixed-route bus use. An application and professional verification are required. Contact the Mobility Manager at the same number or mobility@amadortransit.com about eligibility and availability; do not assume it provides a weekend jail trip.
The jail provides medical and dental care through a nurse and physician, with medication directed by the detention physician. The person in custody or staff may request county mental-health help. Call the jail to ask how to pass a health concern to the appropriate staff. Ask for instructions before bringing or mailing medication.
For help accessing court, call (209) 257-2657 or email civil@amadorcourt.org. For a jail visiting accommodation, use the jail’s supervisor route described below.
Ordinary visits are non-contact unless approved. A separate program offers approved contact visits with children age 10 and younger when the incarcerated parent has a sentence of at least 30 days, attends jail parenting classes and agrees to continue free classes after release. Ask the jail about eligibility and arrangements.

Who to call
Call the jail for the current phone provider, any remote-video service, visitor entrance and parking, accepted kiosk cards, and property or commissary pickup after release. For youth placement, call Probation. For an appointed lawyer’s contact or the applicable criminal bail schedule, call the Criminal Division.
The Sheriff’s custody tool is Incarcerated People; a separate Sheriff VINE page is not supplied. Do not assume another county’s account service, parking arrangement or visiting rules applies here.
Existing policy information comes from Sheriff general information and visiting pages and the Custody Manual dated March 7, 2022: mail policies 1018.5.1, 1018.7 and 1018.9; visiting and disability accommodations; video policy 1022; and tablet policy 1024. These policy details were retained from the September 12, 2026 guide. The new family-support information has its own September 23, 2026 source note.
