Confirm live custody before acting
- Open the Sheriff-linked live inmate roster and search the full booked name, shorter surname and likely spellings. Save the booking number, housing/status, charges, bond and court data actually shown.
- If there is no match, check the Sheriff reports portal, then call the jail information line at 770-942-4333. Recent intake, release, hospital transport or transfer may not appear immediately.
- Ask the arresting agency whether booking is complete and whether the person moved to youth, state, federal/ICE, another county or medical custody.
The roster is live; this guide is not. Reconfirm before registering, depositing, mailing or traveling.

Use the correct Douglas custody identity
| Identity | Meaning | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Law Enforcement & Adult Detention Center, 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. | Active Sheriff adult county jail and main campus. | Custody calls and current jail rules. |
| 8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd. | Current address the Sheriff publishes for legal mail, publisher books and mailed money orders, with inmate name and unit. | Mail/order task only; not a second jail. |

The GDC page labels 8470 as a county jail. Housing state-sentenced people does not make it a separate state prison or automatically import state-prison rules. Youth, municipal arrest, court, probation, transitional, federal/ICE and contract systems remain separate.

Arrange a visit
Registration, visitor rules and video troubleshooting.
Register before every personal visit
- Create an account and register online through the Sheriff-linked GTL VisitMe portal at least 24 hours before the desired visit. Walk-ins are not accepted.
- Choose on-site friends/family visitation or a remote GettingOut visit. The Sheriff says visits are scheduled no later than 7:40 p.m., but does not publish the current weekly blocks.
- Confirm the booking number, participant names and appointment in the portal. Call visitation before driving because housing, release, discipline or operations can change availability.
Attorneys and other professionals must register and provide credentials; the Sheriff says in-person professional visits are scheduled 8 a.m.-5 p.m. until further notice.

Prepare for screening without guessing exceptions
The Sheriff prohibits low-cut clothing, shorts shorter than fingertip length, spandex or other form-fitting clothes, pants below the waist and obscene/vulgar words or images. Choose conservative clothing and arrive only after confirming the current check-in instruction.
The official page does not publish accepted ID, minors/guardian documents, infant items, belongings storage, visit length/frequency, special/long-distance exceptions or approval appeal. Call 678-486-1273 or 770-920-4917 and ask each question that applies. Do not rely on a rule from another Douglas County or an old directory.

Set up and troubleshoot video deliberately
- Create and verify the GettingOut account; select the correct Douglas County Jail resident and booking identity.
- For remote visits, GettingOut identifies a computer, reliable internet, webcam, microphone and Google Chrome; run its equipment test and join early. The inmate must accept before the visit is confirmed.
- For an account, payment or connection failure, save the confirmation/transaction number, exact time and error. Call 866-516-0115 and choose video support. Separately call the jail for housing, custody or disciplinary availability.
The local price, cancellation deadline and credit/refund rule are not published. Never promise a refund.

Receive calls and fix blocked-call problems
Douglas uses Telmate/GTL/GettingOut. The person in custody must initiate calls. A first call without funds may be brief and free, often under a minute, with an option to pay or deposit to continue. GettingOut also supports voicemail up to 3 minutes; the local Sheriff page publishes $1.25.
- Create/fund the correct GettingOut communication account and verify the phone number.
- If calls fail, check balance, carrier collect/spam settings and provider block status. Call 866-516-0115 from the affected number for support or blocking/unblocking guidance.
- Ask the jail separately about a local custody or disciplinary restriction.
Do not assume other rates or a refund from the voicemail price.

Send short electronic messages with a receipt trail
GettingOut messages are limited to 300 characters and are monitored/moderated. Use the correct resident and keep the transaction record. A pending horn icon or provider error means the message is not yet delivered; use GettingOut support at 866-516-0115 rather than resending repeatedly.
Do not send attorney-client facts, medical records, account credentials or urgent safety reports through a monitored message. Use counsel, the jail or 911 for the appropriate protected/emergency route.

Use the current Phoenix address for personal mail
For personal correspondence sent on or after August 15, 2025, address the envelope:
Douglas County, GAInmate Name, Booking #
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
Put the sender's full name and physical return address in the upper-left corner. The Sheriff says personal mail sent directly to the jail after the effective date is returned.
Current photo, postcard, enclosure, page, envelope, original/return and rejection rules are not fully published. Call Deputy Gentry at 770-920-4974 before including anything beyond an ordinary letter.

Keep legal mail and publisher books on the 8472 route
For legal mail and qualifying books, the Sheriff publishes:
Inmate NameDouglas County Jail
Unit #_____
8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd.
Douglasville, GA 30134
Books and magazines must come directly from a publisher or bookstore with a verifiable return address. Books must be softcover; the maximum is 3 books or magazines per 30 days. A package must comply with postal/Georgia law, good conduct and truthful contents.
The retained 2024 handbook described privileged mail opened in the inmate's presence, grievance rights after rejection and picture postcards instead of photographs, but its attachment is now unavailable and predates digital-mail rules. Attorneys and families should verify current markings, opening, rejection, photos and return with Deputy Gentry at 770-920-4974.

Choose the correct trust-deposit method
| Method | Action | Important check |
|---|---|---|
| GettingOut | Credit-card trust deposit online or by phone 866-516-0115, staffed 24/7 with bilingual operators. | Select inmate account, not a communications balance. |
| USPS money order | Mail to inmate name, Douglas County Jail, Unit, 8472 Earl D. Lee Blvd., Douglasville, GA 30134. | Use USPS and verify name/unit first. |
| Local help | Call Legacy Commissary 770-920-4972, Monday-Friday, 8-5. | Ask about any current lobby option before traveling. |
The Sheriff says deposits can take up to 72 hours; Friends & Family and Inmate Account deposits are immediate. Save the receipt and never pay from an unsolicited call.

Understand store limits and gift packs
The Monday store publishes separate weekly limits of $75 for food/beverage and $55 for hygiene/clothing, total $130. Thursday offers only soup, snack and hygiene packs. Gift packs use JailATM: choose Georgia, Douglas County Jail and the resident by surname or ID.
- Order Monday gift packs by Thursday; order Thursday packs by Tuesday.
- Gift pack maximum is $40 and only 1 gift pack per week.
- JailATM terms treat gift-pack purchases as final/no refund; use 877-810-0914 or its support portal for a transaction problem.
Confirm custody before buying because release/transfer can happen before delivery.

Do not move money between unlike accounts
The Sheriff distinguishes phone-number accounts, Friends & Family communication balances, resident communication balances and the inmate trust account. It publishes these limits: transfer phone number to phone number or to inmate communication; do not transfer inmate communication to a phone number; do not transfer Friends & Family communication funds to trust; trust may transfer only to inmate communication.
Before confirming, read the destination label aloud and save the transaction number. If funds land in the wrong balance, call GettingOut at 866-516-0115; do not make a second deposit until support identifies the first.

Use Route 10 only with a confirmed last mile
Connect Douglas Route 10 lists the timed stop Hospital Dr. @ Dorris Rd., not the jail. The operator publishes hourly stop times: outbound at :20 and inbound at :34 during the service span. Route 10 runs Monday-Friday 6 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; no Sunday fixed-route service is published.
Standard one-way fare is $2.50 with exact cash/pass; qualifying seniors 60+, people with disabilities and students pay $1 with the required card; children under 4 ride free. Buses are accessible and have bike racks.
The stop-to-jail walk and accessible path are not verified. Call Connect Douglas 770-949-7665 and the jail before relying on it. Printed schedules may be stale; use the operator alert/live-service tools.

Use official directories for lodging, food and help
Douglasville's official tourism office publishes hotel/motel and local dining directories. Use them to compare locations and call the business for same-day hours, price and accessibility; no rate or availability is asserted here.
For housing, food, health, crisis and other community referrals, use the county Helpful Links page or call United Way 211. Ask about eligibility, documents, service area and appointments. These are planning contacts, not guaranteed placement or jail services.

Protect health and rights
Medical/mental health, disability access, grievances and PREA.
Route medical and mental-health concerns without inventing access
The reviewed official pages do not name the jail's current clinical contractor or publish a family medical number. For a new or worsening concern, call the jail at 770-942-4333; give the resident's name/booking number, symptoms, onset, urgent risk and your callback number. Ask staff to document the message and explain the current clinical escalation/consent route.
For immediate danger, call 911. Do not use electronic messages for emergencies. Ask separately about medication verification, pregnancy, suicide risk, glasses/contacts, dental emergencies, records authorization and discharge prescriptions because those workflows are not published.
Sources: Douglas County: jail phone 24/7 · Douglas Sheriff: jail information page reviewed for clinical procedure gap
Request disability, language and communication access early
No detention-specific ADA or interpreter procedure is published. Call the jail at 770-942-4333 before a visit and describe the functional need, requested aid, visit date and whether it concerns a visitor or resident. Ask for the ADA/accommodation owner and an appeal path; record the answer.
For transit, Connect Douglas states buses are accessible and publishes reduced-fare and paratransit information. Contact 770-949-7665 for applications and trip eligibility. An accessible bus does not prove an accessible route from the stop to the jail door.
Sources: Douglas Sheriff: detention contact and absence of published ADA procedure · Connect Douglas: accessible fixed-route service · Connect Douglas: fares and eligibility cards
Distinguish inmate grievances from outside complaints
The jail page provides a Jail Concern form: start with a supervisor; Captain Len Deese or First Lieutenant Keith Hayes follows up. Professional Standards accepts citizen concerns, including anonymous complaints, and any officer can receive/document one; it also publishes outcome notification and says an investigation file becomes requestable 10 days after completion.
Those channels do not publish or replace the resident's internal grievance form, deadline, emergency/medical appeal, receipt or retaliation protection. Ask jail staff for the current inmate grievance steps and save dates/names. Use Professional Standards for staff-conduct escalation, not routine provider billing.
Sources: Douglas Sheriff: Jail Concern escalation · Douglas Sheriff: Office of Professional Standards · Douglas Sheriff: records requests
Ask for the current local PREA channel
No current official Douglas jail page reviewed here identifies a PREA coordinator, anonymous/third-party line, outside entity, victim advocate or audit. For immediate danger call 911. Otherwise call 770-942-4333, clearly say the concern involves sexual abuse, harassment or retaliation in custody, and ask for the PREA reporting route and evidence-preservation/medical instructions.
Do not investigate, confront anyone or send sensitive details through monitored messages. Keep the date, staff name and reference number. Professional Standards may document staff misconduct, but it is not presented as the complete PREA mechanism.

Handle court and release
Court, counsel, bond, property, programs and reentry.
Match the case to the correct court
The Douglas County Courthouse is 8700 Hospital Drive. Superior Court handles felony records; Clerk: 770-920-7252, records 770-920-7441. State Court handles misdemeanor/traffic matters; criminal clerk 770-489-5232. The county search instructs users to enter LAST NAME, FIRST NAME.
Magistrate handles first bond/preliminary matters at 770-920-7540. Save the case number, court, charge, hearing date, judge and counsel; a jail roster is not the complete docket.

Apply for the Douglas Public Defender correctly
The Public Defender represents qualifying people prosecuted in Douglas State and Superior Courts. The office is on the courthouse second floor, 770-949-1096, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Applicants complete a financial affidavit and must meet federal poverty guidelines. The current published application fee is $50, payable by cash, cashier's check or money order; personal checks are not accepted.
If the applicant is in jail and cannot apply in person, the office says to call for instructions. Family can provide name/case/court/date, but should not put privileged case facts in public forms or monitored messages.

Verify the hearing schedule and every hold before paying
Current county pages conflict. The Sheriff FAQ says bond hearings are at the courthouse third-floor Courtroom #2 at 9:00 a.m. Monday/Wednesday/Friday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday/Thursday. The Magistrate Court page says 8:45 a.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday-Friday. Call Magistrate 770-920-7540 and the jail before traveling.
Some misdemeanors have pre-set bond. The Sheriff says probation violations have no bond unless the probation officer and judge resolve the sanction. Property bond requires the deed, current paid-tax/fair-market statement and latest mortgage statement; internet printouts are not accepted. Confirm amount, court, tender and every hold before paying.

Do not promise a release or property pickup time
No official source reviewed here publishes property-release authorization, recipient ID, pickup door/hours, abandoned-property rule, release exit/time, late-night pickup or medication/document handoff. Before driving, call 770-942-4333 and ask separately about property pickup and release.
- Confirm that bond/court processing is complete and ask about warrants, probation/parole or immigration holds.
- Ask which entrance, ID and authorization the recipient needs.
- Ask how funds, communications balance, medications, documents and clothing are delivered.
- Record the staff name/time; do not wait on campus or announce a pickup time without confirmation.

Use reentry and education from the housing kiosk
The Sheriff reentry program lists substance-use education, life skills, job readiness, local resources, HIV education, transitional housing, West Georgia Technical College counseling, employers, anger management and life coaching. Residents apply through the housing kiosk.
Eligibility published by the Sheriff: no disciplinary issues; the person must have a bond and be releasing from Douglas County Jail, including probation violations. Already-sentenced residents are directed to GDC reentry programming. Call coordinator Lisa Williams at 678-486-1232 for current availability, language/disability access and release planning.
Sources: Douglas Sheriff: reentry program, eligibility and coordinator
Build a release checklist before the release call
- Custody/court: confirm release authority, remaining holds, court date, counsel and supervision reporting.
- Essentials: ask about ID/documents, medication supply/prescriptions, funds, communications balance, clothing and property.
- Transportation: confirm release entrance/time with the jail; Route 10 does not publish a jail stop.
- Housing/treatment/work: contact jail reentry at 678-486-1232, county resources or United Way 211 before release.
Programs and referrals are not guaranteed placement. Confirm eligibility, intake hours, documents and transportation with each provider.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything
Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.
Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
