Hillsborough County Jail — Falkenburg Road

Start with the booked name, booking number and actual housing. Family video moved entirely online on October 28, 2025; bond, legal mail and professional visits still require the right physical destination. This guide explains the current workflows and names the remaining operational gaps.

Orient Road and Falkenburg Road adult Sheriff custody in Florida; separate from juvenile, state, federal and immigration systems and former buildings.

  1. Locate

Use both names and confirm current custody.

  2. Connect

Reserve free remote video through the correct account.

  3. Prepare

Use the right address, payment and care contact.

  4. Plan ahead

Confirm court, pickup and support after release.

PART 01

Confirm custody and destination

Search correctly and choose one of the two adult jails.

Find the person: name search matters during the first day

  1. Open the Sheriff's Arrest Inquiry. Enter the name as Last Name, First Name, or a booking number. Date-of-birth, booking-date and release-date filters use MM/DD/YYYY. Select Current Inmates Only when checking present custody.
  2. During the first 24 hours after arrest, a record may be absent from general listings but still found using both first and last names. The Sheriff says entries update every 30 minutes after information reaches its jail system; this is not a promise that booking finishes within that time.
  3. Save the booking number, correct name, charges and bond information; confirm Orient or Falkenburg housing with 813-247-8300 before sending legal mail or arranging a professional visit. Records can remain listed for 90 days after release. An arrest entry is not proof of conviction or continued detention.
  4. If nothing appears, check spelling and filter dates, then call Inmate Records 813-247-8400. Ask whether intake is incomplete, the person left custody, or another agency holds them. Do not pay a private search site to resolve an official-record delay.

Use actual housing, not the arresting police department or a guess based on charges. The old Division III directory address, 1301 N. Morgan Street, is not the current destination. Hillsborough Re-Entry Center / Offender Registration Unit is listed at 1201 Orient Road, 813-247-8460; this does not reopen the legacy Work Release Center listing at 1800 Orient Road.

Florida DJJ's Hillsborough Juvenile Detention Center West is separate: 3948 W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33614, 813-871-7650. Other juvenile residential programs, state corrections, federal and immigration custody have their own rules. The Sheriff reports separately housed youthful inmates at Falkenburg; ask about that specific placement rather than applying adult-family rules to a child.

Sheriff administration: 2008 E. 8th Avenue, Tampa, FL 33605, 813-247-8000. Nonemergency dispatch: 813-247-8200. Neither number replaces jail information or establishes an arrival entrance.

Plan remote or professional visits

Current remote allowance, identity, children, technology and access.

Family video visits are remote: the onsite center closed

Central Booking callsDuring booking accessFree outgoing calls to arrange bond and contact family.
General-population callsTypically 07:30–22:30Some no-cost weekly service; quantity not published.
Family video after housing assignmentTypically 09:30–20:452 hours of prescheduled no-cost video each week; inmate-initiated on-demand video costs extra.
Qualified professional in-person visitsDaily 06:00–23:00Professional eligibility and documentation required.

All family Video Visitation Services (VVS) moved to remote service when the onsite Visitation Center closed on October 28, 2025. Do not travel to the old center expecting a free terminal. The broad Detention Services page still describes onsite video; the specific dated communications notice controls this guide. Free weekly video requires prescheduling; it is distinct from paid on-demand contact. Smart’s generic video FAQ describes remote visits as paid; HCSO’s specific free allowance is the local exception. Do not fund a paid session just because a generic provider page says a balance is required.

Register, verify identity and reserve the correct video

  1. Create or recover your SmartInmate account; verify email and telephone. One telephone number can belong to only one active account. Use Forgot Password to recover an existing username/account instead of opening duplicates.
  2. In My Account, complete identity verification. Upload a clear, current document with all corners visible; avoid glare, altered images and a name different from your account.
  3. Under Contacts, choose Find an Incarcerated Individual, match name/ID/facility and send a connection request. The person must accept it; facility approval can also be required.
  4. Choose Visits → Schedule → person → Remote, then an offered date, time and duration. Confirm the reservation and whether it uses the weekly free allowance before authorizing a charge. Smart's general scheduler describes booking up to 7 days ahead and 15 or 30 minute options; use the options actually offered for Hillsborough.

HCSO does not publish the weekly reset, minimum booking lead time, maximum participants, cancellation deadline or a housing-by-housing matrix for the new remote system. Missing appointment slots can reflect approval, allowance, housing or availability. Ask 727-349-1561 for account/scheduling problems and 813-247-8300 for custody restrictions. A paid balance cannot override a jail restriction.

ID alternatives, children and approval limits

Smart's general identity policy accepts 1 government document showing name with birth date or photograph, including a driver license, passport, national ID or birth certificate. Without government ID, it lists 2 different nongovernment documents with the same account name; at least 1 must show birth date or photograph. Examples include student/library/refugee cards, employment verification and diplomas. Expired documents are rejected. These are provider identity options, not a guarantee of HCSO visitor approval. Facilities may require different documents.

An account owner must be at least 18. Smart permits younger users only with authorization and supervision by a registered member. HCSO's current notice does not specify whether that supervising person must be a parent/guardian, what custody or birth documents are required, or how infants count toward a session limit. Before a child participates, obtain the jail's approval requirements and keep the approved adult present. Do not assume a notarized note allows a child to participate alone.

Ask the jail about protective/no-contact orders, prior detention, probation, parole, visitor suspensions and reinstatement before connecting. The current public notice supplies no automatic waiting-period exception. For remote conduct, Smart prohibits sexual, threatening, abusive or illegal content. HCSO has not published a complete current remote dress/infant rule list; obtain it before the session rather than relying on old onsite lists.

Check in online and fix a failed connection

  1. Use current Google Chrome, including on Apple devices: Smart's video FAQ says Safari is incompatible. Have a working camera and microphone, allow browser permissions and use a stable connection in a quiet, well-lit place.
  2. Open the visit about 10 minutes before its start and select Begin when available. Both sides must join. Arriving late does not extend the reserved end time.
  3. If video or audio fails, check permissions and the selected microphone/camera, close other camera-using apps, refresh/rejoin and try a stronger connection. Check that your contact and visitor approval are active after any transfer.
  4. For cancellation/rescheduling, open Visits and the reservation; follow the displayed facility deadline. Save the confirmation and failure details: date, time, person, device/browser, error and charged minutes. Send them through the Smart support form or call 727-349-1561.

The provider describes activation within 24–48 hours after facility approval; this does not guarantee approval within that period. Ask the jail about housing lockdown/cancellation; ask Smart about browser, account and billing failures. Do not purchase repeated sessions to test an unresolved problem.

Confirm the person’s current jail, appointment/document process and screening entrance before travel. Ask what originals to bring, how court-appointed experts are approved, and how to arrange confidential telephone/video contact. A family Smart account or a professional label alone does not establish a privileged connection. Keep legal strategy off ordinary family calls/messages/video, which Smart and facility staff may review.

The public notice does not give professional arrival lead time, bag/locker rules, infant admission, detailed dress rules, exceptional after-hours access or permitted legal materials/devices. Obtain approval for each needed item and any interpreter or accommodation; do not treat the broad daily window as automatic entry.

Disability, language and access without a home device

For a disability accommodation, contact HCSO at 813-318-5311. A request may be oral or written and made by someone assisting the person; identify the task and access barrier. The Sheriff says accommodations are free and requests may be made at any time, although advance notice helps. Ask specifically about hearing/vision access, captions or an interpreter, and what alternative is available if remote video is inaccessible. The current closure notice does not promise a replacement public terminal or an onsite family exception.

HCSO's language-assistance policy, agency-reviewed July 2, 2026, covers detention staff and offers interpretation without charge. State the language needed, including an Indigenous language if appropriate; speaking some English does not mean someone can understand a legal or medical form. Request translated complaint forms or help reading a vital document. The policy discourages using minor children as interpreters except in urgent circumstances and limits family/bystander interpreting to basic informal situations.

For a professional visit, ask the jail to approve mobility equipment, medical supplies and the screening arrangement in advance. A medical item needed by a visitor and an item being delivered to the detained person require separate decisions.

Smart Prepaid CollectTelephone calls to your registered number and video servicesYour account; other connected people’s calls to that number can use it.
Smart PIN DebitA particular detained person’s telephone useThe detained person; funding it does not restrict calls to you.

HCSO trust / TouchPayCommissary and applicable custody debtsThe detained person’s jail account.

Check the facility, person, account type and destination number before paying. Review the current rate/fee shown at checkout; a published HCSO per-minute paid call/video tariff was not located. Ask 727-349-1561 whether PIN Debit is enabled for the person's housing. Do not assume Smart funds move to TouchPay or that buying credits creates a cash balance.

Outgoing calls, free access and failed calls

Calls are outgoing only. Central Booking calls are free; general-population access is typically 07:30–22:30 with some weekly free service. HCSO does not publish the free-minute quantity or a family incoming-message line. For an urgent welfare concern, call 813-247-8300 and request staff assistance; do not wait for the next personal call.

  1. Confirm the exact telephone number funded and whether you bought Prepaid Collect, PIN Debit or unrelated credits.
  2. Check mobile carrier spam blocks, unknown-caller settings, call-screening apps and voicemail. Smart identifies Google Voice call screening as incompatible. A number that cannot receive the verification text/call may need provider assistance.
  3. Verify the person remains at a participating facility, has calling access and is trying the funded number. Smart cannot remove a jail-imposed block.
  4. For charges or failed calls, keep transaction/call date, time, number and account type and contact 727-349-1561 or the support form. Ask for a review before making another deposit.

Ordinary social calls are not confidential legal conversations. Do not relay prohibited messages between incarcerated people or use another person's account to evade a restriction.

Video holds, refunds and conflicting processing times

Smart's video FAQ describes a temporary hold on Prepaid funds for a paid reservation, charging only connected minutes and normally releasing an unconnected-session hold within about 1 hour. If a visit partially fails, submit its details for review; that is different from asking to close/refund an unused balance.

Published provider timing conflicts: the video FAQ describes approved video refunds within about 72 business hours, while the refund FAQ describes about 30 days for processing refunds. Do not plan around either as a guaranteed deadline. Ask 727-349-1561 which process applies and retain the ticket.

For your unused Prepaid Collect balance of at least $5, open PPC Balance → Refund. Smart generally returns it to the original payment method; where that is unavailable it describes a mailed check. Its policy says balances below $5 are nonrefundable. PIN Debit belongs to the detained person after funding; the person, not a family depositor, must request the eligible remaining balance after release. Purchased service credits are nonrefundable and do not expire; Transfer Credits can send them to a connected detained person. They remain separate from cash balances. A transfer to another facility does not automatically refund or transfer every account.

Electronic messages, photos and rejection charges

After connecting to the correct person, choose Compose for text and the separate photograph function for images. Smart's published general message limit is 30000 characters and its standard message price is 50 credits ($0.50). It lists photographs at 100 credits ($1). Check Hillsborough's displayed checkout terms before buying: these are provider-published prices, not a verified local paid call/video tariff. PDF and Word files are not message attachments. Smart lists a minimum credit purchase of 500 credits ($5) plus a $3 processing fee. A COD message asks the recipient to pay 50 credits to open a message when the sender has none; an already paid message does not require a second payment to read.

Watch status: Pending Review is not delivery; Delivered and Rejected have different meanings. Facility review can delay communication. For photographs, Smart accepts JPEG/JPG, GIF and PNG and lists sexual/nude images, weapons/drugs and some collages, documents or other incarcerated people's images among restricted categories. Ask about the specific picture before repeatedly resending rejected content.

HCSO says policy-violating photographs are rejected without refund. Smart's generic photo FAQ describes returned credits for rejected photos; use the stricter HCSO notice here and ask for the local rejection reason. Smart separately says rejected text-message credits are returned; HCSO’s explicit no-refund notice concerns photographs. Save the transaction and status when disputing a technical failure. Do not send irreplaceable originals or sensitive legal/medical documents through ordinary monitored messaging.

The personal-mail address took effect October 28, 2025. Personal correspondence sent to an HCSO building is returned to sender. Put the correct booked name and booking number on the envelope and include your return address. Do not send commissary deposits or bond money to the scanning address.

Smart MailGuard offers free delivery/rejection tracking through a registered account connected to the person. Its MailGuard instructions require government photo ID and a selfie, plus email/telephone verification. This is narrower than Smart's general account-ID alternatives; ask support about alternatives before assuming a birth certificate alone activates MailGuard tracking.

Books, packages, physical photos and returned mail

HCSO prohibits mailed packages and periodicals, including magazines and newspapers. Its authorized iCare commissary order is a separate controlled service, not permission to mail a homemade parcel. The current notice does not resolve publisher-direct paperback books, religious books, physical-photo quantities/sizes, envelope/page limits, cards, drawings or colored paper. Do not assume another county's book exception or Smart's generic scan limit applies. Ask jail mail staff at 813-247-8300 before buying or posting those items.

For a rejected or missing personal letter, check the booked name/number, PO box and tracking status; retain a copy of the envelope and any rejection notice. Ask Smart 727-349-1561 whether it reached the processing center and the jail whether a content decision blocked delivery. Request the reason, review/appeal route and deadline. The reviewed public instructions do not publish a local mail appeal deadline, original-paper retention period or method/cost for returning scanned originals. Use copies rather than irreplaceable certificates or photographs until that is clarified.

TouchPay adds a convenience fee; confirm it before submission. Statements may show Touchpay Direct or Correctional Payment Services. All deposits first pay outstanding account debts, including prior incarcerations; only the remainder is available for canteen. A successful payment does not mean the entire amount becomes spending money.

For missing funds, keep receipt, booking number, amount and date. Aramark: 813-626-8800, Monday–Friday 08:00–15:00. The Sheriff says personal account details are discussed only with the detained person, who can request account information internally. Ask the person to request the ledger; do not send repeated deposits merely because a family member cannot obtain the balance.

Commissary, iCare and help when there is no money

Aramark operates canteen service with deliveries twice during the week. Medical or disciplinary restrictions can limit orders. The authorized iCare package service allows 1 package per week subject to the person's restrictions; questions: 877-615-3296. Confirm the person remains eligible and housed locally before ordering. This is different from depositing money and from sending a prohibited parcel through ordinary mail.

The reviewed current public pages do not publish the indigent threshold, waiting period, hygiene-kit contents, free writing/postage allowance or application steps. A person who lacks toiletries or writing materials should ask housing staff for the current indigent/basic-supplies request process and keep the request date. Family can call 813-247-8300 to ask how an unmet basic need can be brought to the supervisor. Ask separately about legal postage and medically necessary hygiene; do not assume that depositing a small sum preserves indigent eligibility.

If an order is missing, the detained person should request its order record and delivery review; the purchaser should keep the iCare receipt and contact iCare about its refund/transfer policy. No local automatic refund on transfer/release was verified.

Release debit cards and unclaimed balances

The Sheriff's 2025 Annual Report states that Orient Road moved to a cashless release system issuing funded debit cards. Before leaving, ask staff for the balance, card issuer, activation instructions, fee schedule, cash-access options and lost-card contact. The report does not identify those terms or confirm every exceptional release/transfer scenario; do not assume a family Smart balance is included on the card.

For unclaimed inmate funds, HCSO requires a written claim with sufficient proof of ownership. Contact Inmate Accounts at 813-247-8290, Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00, or InmateAccounts@hcso.tampa.fl.us for the appropriate claim instructions. Keep the booking information and any release receipt. A relative should not assume authority to claim another adult's funds.

Trust money, a release card, your Smart Prepaid balance, the detained person's PIN balance and a court bond refund are separate. Ask each custodian about its own balance and documentation rather than treating the jail's release paperwork as a universal refund request.

Booked belongings are separate from police evidence

Orient's intake complex includes inmate property. For keys, identification, a wallet or clothing held with a booking, call 813-247-8300 and ask for Inmate Property. Before anyone travels, obtain the detained person's required authorization process, the eligible recipient's identification requirements, appointment/collection hours and what can be released. Current public pages do not publish that complete procedure. Do not presume a family relationship alone authorizes pickup or that everything can be released while the person remains detained.

Property/Evidence is a different operation: 2316 North Falkenburg Road, Suite A, Tampa, FL 33619; 813-247-0000. Published hours are Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00; firearm, money and jewelry returns end at 16:30; closed holidays. Ask about the case number and release authorization before going. These hours are not inmate-property pickup hours.

At release, compare the property inventory with returned items and report a discrepancy before leaving if possible. Ask staff to document missing items and explain the written claim process; no verified local claim deadline is published in the reviewed pages.

Travel and nearby services

Public parking, current operator stops, final approach, food and lodging.

Travel only for the right task; public courthouse parking

Family video is remote. Travel to a jail only for a confirmed task such as bond, a professional appointment, a lobby deposit or authorized pickup. For bond at either jail, use Orient, 1201 Orient Road. For professional access, confirm actual housing and the approved entrance. Current HCSO pages do not publish visitor-lot layouts, parking prices, pickup-door details or a guaranteed accessible path. Call 813-247-8300 for the lot/door appropriate to your task; the closed video center is not an arrival instruction.

For downtown court business, the City operates Twiggs Garage, 901 E. Twiggs Street, Tampa. Published ordinary pricing is $2 per hour, $14 daily maximum. Next-day charges begin at 06:00, the maximum resets after exit, and special-event flat pricing may replace ordinary rates. Check the posted rate before entering; city parking questions: 813-274-8179. This is public parking near the courthouse, not a jail visitor lot or guaranteed available space.

Both Edgecomb and the Criminal Annex use the public courthouse entrance at 800 E. Twiggs Street. Allow time for security and the final walk from parking. Ask the court about mobility access and prohibited items before taking bags or equipment.

HART's June 7, 2026 Route 37 map names Falkenburg Road Jail as a destination. The operator's newer stop/trip feed, valid August 16, 2026–January 2, 2027, confirms the pairs above. Route 37 runs between Netpark and Brandon Mall; its HCC Brandon campus detour is weekday-only. Do not interpret that campus limitation as no weekend service on the entire route.

Call HART 813-254-4278 with the exact address, stop ID, travel date and desired arrival/return time. Ask for current departures, transfers, accessible boarding and the last return service. The older Orient jail loop is not established by this current feed, and the MLK stops do not establish a short or accessible walk to booking. Ask the jail about the public pedestrian gate and arrange a ride for the remaining trip if needed. Do not assume a release occurs while buses run or that the jail provides a bus pass.

Confirm room availability, total price, deposit/cancellation policy, accessible room and late arrival directly with the hotel; a detention or release delay does not guarantee a refund. Call the restaurant about holiday hours and dietary needs. Do not book lodging solely for a family video visit that can be taken remotely. PART 06

Care, court and release

Clinical contact, complaints, court, bond, release and community help.

Give medical and mental-health information to the right team

HCSO lists NaphCare for inmate medical information: 800-592-4611 or friendsandfamily@naphcare.com. Include the correct name, booking number, current jail if known, your callback number and a concise account of the concern. Useful information includes current medication names/doses, pharmacy/prescriber, allergies, urgent symptoms, recent hospital care, suicide-risk history and withdrawal concerns. State what is happening now and when it began; the clinical team decides assessment and treatment.

For an immediate concern such as threatened self-harm, severe withdrawal, breathing difficulty or serious deterioration, call the jail 813-247-8300 and ask for an immediate welfare check and medical/mental-health staff or the shift supervisor. Email is not an emergency response channel and the medical page publishes no response-time promise. A person inside should alert staff immediately rather than wait for routine written requests. For an emergency outside custody, call 911.

Keep the date, whom you reached and the information provided. If the situation continues, call again with the changed facts and ask whether the concern reached onsite clinical staff; an unanswered social call does not establish that a medical team received it.

Medication, glasses, disability aids and discharge care

Before bringing or mailing prescription medicine, glasses, hearing aids, dentures, mobility equipment, medical records or other supplies, contact NaphCare 800-592-4611 and the jail 813-247-8300. Ask who approves the item, the accepted packaging/documentation, exact delivery point and whether a prescriber/pharmacy should send information directly. The public HCSO medical page supplies a family contact but no current item-dropoff policy. Do not send these to the personal-mail scanning PO box or assume a professional visitor can carry them through screening.

Ask the detained person to request clinical review for missed medication, pain, pregnancy care, disability needs or mental-health symptoms through the unit's current medical-request process. If they cannot read, write, communicate or operate the request system, ask staff for assistance and an accommodation. The reviewed sources do not specify local sick-call fees, response deadlines, medication substitution rules or the quantity supplied at release.

Before discharge, request a medication list, prescriptions/bridge supply as clinically arranged, follow-up instructions and help transferring care. Confirm the receiving pharmacy/clinic and transportation before relying on them. A family report provides information; it is not a medication order.

Giving information does not guarantee access to records

You can explain a concern and offer relevant history even when clinicians cannot discuss the person's condition with you. HHS explains that providers may share relevant information with involved family/friends when the patient agrees or does not object, and in some emergencies or incapacity situations using professional judgment. HIPAA does not create an automatic family right to the whole medical record, nor does it prohibit staff from listening to safety information.

Ask NaphCare how the person can identify you as a contact, provide any needed authorization and request records. No HCSO-specific release-of-information form or delivery timetable was verified. Send detailed records only through the channel the clinical team designates; ordinary jail messages and public complaint forms are not substitutes for a medical record request. If staff cannot return details, still ask whether they received your information and how to submit additional urgent facts.

Internal grievances and public staff complaints differ

For a detention-service grievance, the person should request the current inmate grievance procedure from housing staff: how to submit, obtain a receipt, appeal and meet each deadline. Identify the issue, date, requested remedy and prior requests; keep copies or request numbers. The public policy collection reviewed did not supply the detention grievance timetable. Do not substitute Florida state-prison or New Hampshire Hillsborough rules.

Family or others can report staff conduct through HCSO Professional Standards: call 813-247-8000 and ask for the relevant supervisor, or Internal Affairs 813-247-8080 Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00; after hours leave a callback. Write to Professional Standards Bureau, 2008 East 8th Avenue, Tampa, FL 33605, or use the public complaint portal. Anonymous complaints are accepted; contact information allows follow-up. Submitted information may be a Florida public record.

The agency's page says most investigations finish within 30 days; that is not a detention-grievance filing/appeal deadline or guaranteed completion date. Ask for a reference number and escalation route. Language assistance and translated complaint forms are available; immediate danger requires direct staff intervention rather than waiting for an administrative response.

Report sexual abuse or harassment promptly

A person inside can tell a staff member they trust or ask for a supervisor/medical professional. Family can call 813-247-8300 and request the jail's PREA coordinator or shift supervisor; for staff misconduct use Internal Affairs 813-247-8080. Explain the person's name, booking number, housing, incident or current threat and any need for immediate protection or medical care. Ask how to make the report without routing it through the accused person and how retaliation concerns will be handled.

The national PREA jail standards require multiple reporting methods, third-party reporting and protection against retaliation. HCSO's reviewed current public pages did not identify a dedicated adult-jail PREA hotline, outside reporting address or detailed emergency-grievance procedure. The general jail/complaint numbers above are verified contacts, not a claimed confidential PREA hotline. Ask specifically for the approved reporting options; do not use the similarly named New Hampshire agency's number.

Independent support: Crisis Center of Tampa Bay Sexual Assault Services, 813-264-9961 Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00. Its 24-hour helpline is 211 within Hillsborough or 813-234-1234 from outside. The center provides confidential advocacy and free assault-related services; this is community support, not proof that every number connects directly from a jail phone.

Find court records, update the address and reach counsel

Use the official HOVER court-record portal for available case indexes, dockets and nonconfidential documents. Match the case number and party identity; a jail booking number is not a court case number. Missing online documents do not prove there is no hearing or case. Clerk 813-276-8100 can explain access and copies; some misdemeanor files need advance ordering and up to 4 business days for redaction before onsite viewing.

After a misdemeanor arrest, formal charges and arraignment notice follow the Clerk/State Attorney process. Notices go to the address supplied at arrest; use the Clerk's current mailing/email address forms when details change. Keep court notices and release conditions, even if the online jail record disappears.

Public Defender: 813-272-5980, 700 E. Twiggs Street, 5th Floor; mailing PO Box 172910, Tampa, FL 33672-0910. The Clerk or judge must appoint the office. Request an indigent-status application and disclose income, debts and property; if denied, ask the judge to reconsider. The office publishes a $50 application fee, which is not a requirement to pay cash before asking for appointment. Its FAQ says unpaid application fees can be imposed at sentencing and other attorney fees may be ordered. Ask counsel about the actual assessment and available relief.

Post bond at Orient, with the exact accepted payment

  1. Confirm the current bond/purge amount and whether every case and hold permits release with Inmate Records 813-247-8400. Have the person's correctly spelled name, date of birth and booking number. A displayed amount for one charge does not resolve every hold.
  2. HCSO accepts exact cash or money order for cash bonds and purges. Credit/debit cards are not accepted for that cashier process. Bring valid identification. Before purchasing a money order, ask the cashier for the current payee wording and any instrument requirements; the published page does not specify them.
  3. Pay at Orient Road Jail, 1201 Orient Road, Tampa, FL 33619, including when the person is housed at Falkenburg. Confirm current counter access/hours and entrance at 813-247-8400; the public bond page does not publish a complete cashier-hours table.
  4. For a surety bond, use a properly registered bond agent and read the agreement, premium, collateral and release conditions. The Sheriff's instructions do not set a universal consumer price.
  5. Keep the receipt and depositor name/address accurate. Confirm release processing and pickup separately; payment alone is not confirmation that the person is ready to leave.

Cash bond refunds go through the Clerk

For Hillsborough cases, the Sheriff collects cash bond and transfers the money to the Clerk for distribution after case disposition. Court-authorized prosecution, representation, fees, costs, penalties and other obligations can reduce the refund, including applicable amounts in other cases involving the same defendant. A commercial bond premium is a different payment; do not expect it to be refunded like deposited cash bond.

The Clerk mails any remaining cash-bond refund to the depositor address on the bond. The Sheriff's instructions say refunds cannot be picked up in person. To change the depositor address, send written notice with a copy of the depositor's ID to Clerk of Court, PO Box 3360, Tampa, FL 33601, Attn: Bond Department. Ask the Clerk 813-276-8100 about status and required proof before sending sensitive documents through an unverified channel.

For another county's case, contact that county's Clerk. Diversion may require a State Attorney acceptance letter; the published instructions contain a special traffic-program exception, so ask about the particular case instead of assuming enrollment alone releases the deposit. Missing court can result in forfeiture. No universal refund date was verified.

Confirm the release door, transportation and next obligations

  1. Ask Inmate Records 813-247-8400 whether release authorization was received, whether other holds remain, and whether release is to the community or a transfer to another agency. Do not equate a court order or bond receipt with completed processing.
  2. Ask the jail 813-247-8300 for the actual release location, approved pickup point and how the person can contact a ride. The reviewed current public pages do not guarantee a processing duration, pickup door, release hours or that every Falkenburg release occurs at Orient.
  3. Arrange a charged phone/contact plan, weather-appropriate clothes and a ride that can wait or return. Check the last transit service and final walking approach; do not assume a bus pass, taxi voucher or overnight waiting area is supplied.
  4. Before leaving, ask about property, release-card instructions, medication/follow-up information, court dates and any required supervision reporting. Keep the paperwork and update the Clerk's address separately.

If the person is transferred, obtain the receiving agency and identifiers before sending money or legal mail. If a scheduled release is delayed, seek the specific unresolved step; no single estimated time covers all cases, warrants and transport arrangements.

Education, treatment, reentry and supervision

HCSO describes adult education, substance-use treatment, religious services and reentry functions at its jails, with vocational opportunities at Falkenburg. The 2025 Annual Report describes industry credentials, high-school completion, a veterans program and assistance obtaining identification. These describe programs offered, not an entitlement to a place, sentence reduction or immediate release.

The person should ask housing/program staff about current enrollment, eligibility, language/disability access, waiting lists and completion documentation. Families can ask 813-247-8300 how to pass a reentry need to the appropriate team. Start with specific needs: identification, medications, a safe address, employment documents and an appointment after discharge.

Current HCSO locations list Hillsborough Re-Entry Center / Offender Registration Unit at 1201 Orient Road, 813-247-8460. Confirm the correct program office and appointment before going. House arrest, misdemeanor probation, registration and residential/work-release placement are different legal/program statuses; only follow the person's actual order and staff instructions. A legacy listing at 1800 Orient Road does not establish an active walk-in placement service.

Abe Brown Ministries is at 2921 N. 29th Street, Tampa, FL 33605, 813-247-3285, Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00. Its current admissions page describes a 12-month program with an initial six-week professional-development course. It is not a general homeless shelter; transitional housing is only for program participants.

Published requirements include age 18 or older, relevant incarceration/supervision experience, return to Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco or Polk with in-person participation, drug screening, no sexual-offense convictions, no pending/active criminal cases and no habitual-violent-offender classification, with certain circumstances reviewed individually. The page also requires ability to work 8 hours per day / 40 hours weekly and a government photo ID, driver license or Social Security Number before enrollment.

The same page lists some diversion/pretrial-program participants among potential applicants while excluding active cases. Ask staff how those conditions apply together; do not assume every person newly released on bond qualifies. Ask CARE about its separately funded Hillsborough-resident/work-authorization criteria and current intake. Do not post sensitive medical or incarceration details in the ministry's general web contact form; its contact page directs private matters to telephone.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
