Three things to confirm before the trip.
There are no visiting appointments. Sign up at the jail before the housing-unit window. Late arrival loses the visit. Confirm the person is still here and which housing unit they are in.
- 01Confirm custody
Search the official Zuercher roster.
Use the Sheriff incarcerated-person search, then call (530) 822-7302. The portal itself says tentative release dates should be confirmed with the jail. Ask which housing unit — hours differ for GP, special housing, kitchen, medical, dorms, and female units.
- 02Match the unit
Read the housing-unit hours before you drive.
Male general population is Friday and Saturday. Other male units are Tuesday/Thursday, Sunday/Monday, Wednesday, Saturday-only, or Sunday-only. Female GP and female minimum are Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
- 03Sign up on site
Arrive before the window with valid photo ID.
No appointments. Sign up before visiting hours start. One 30-minute visit per incarcerated person per day except minimum. Visiting Rules: one visitor at a time excluding children; no contact visits. Driver license or passport — expired ID is not accepted.
01 / Visiting
Sutter County Jail visiting hours.
Official Visiting Hours page (Wayback capture 2026-01-20 of the live Sheriff page; Akamai blocked a same-day live fetch). Each incarcerated person is allowed no fewer than two visits totaling at least one hour per week. Visitors are limited to one 30-minute visit per incarcerated person per day except minimum. The live Zuercher roster (checked 2026-09-12) says visiting may be restricted. Call (530) 822-7302 with the booked name before you drive. Housing unit is not always obvious from the public roster — ask.

- No fewer than two visits totaling at least one hour per week. One 30-minute visit per incarcerated person per day except minimum.
- 30 minutes (Visiting Rules).
- Visiting Rules page: a maximum of one person at a time, excluding children. FAQ page: as many people as you want, sharing one 30-minute period. Follow the Visiting Rules page at the door: one adult at a time excluding children.
- No appointments. Come to the jail before the visiting hours and sign up. Late arrival loses the visit. A visitor seeing more than one person must finish the first visit before signing up for the next. Valid identification required (driver license or passport). Under 18 may visit only if the incarcerated person is a parent or a parent/legal guardian stays with the minor at all times.

Release and property
Bail, property, and commissary pickup
Cash, cashier’s check, money order, or licensed bond
Post bail with the control-room deputy at the jail lobby. Provide the entire amount as U.S. currency, a cashier’s check, or a money order. Cashier’s checks and money orders must be made out to “Sutter County Consolidated Courts.” No personal checks. You may also use a licensed bail bond agency. Posting a bond does not guarantee release if a probation hold, parole hold, or out-of-county warrant applies. An ICE detainer alone is not a lawful California hold (Gov. Code § 7284.6). This is the process, not a bondsman directory.
Usually held until release; prison-bound exception
Generally, people in custody may not release personal property unless they are sentenced to state prison. Prison-bound property release: during that person’s visiting hours, or by appointment Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Visiting Rules also list property releases 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Monday–Sunday excluding holidays. The designated person must show valid photo ID. Shoes and clothing needed for transport or release stay. Property left more than 90 days after release is destroyed or disposed of. Remaining account balance is issued as a check from the prisoner’s cash fund on release.
Balance paid by check
Remaining account balance is issued as a check from the prisoner’s cash fund upon release. Subscriptions and unused publications are not forwarded.
After booking
Court, a lawyer, probation, and parole.
Court, counsel, and probation are separate from the jail. State parole is a different agency. This is the process a family actually has to walk—not a directory of private bondsmen or attorneys.
1175 Civic Center Blvd
Custody arraignments are heard daily at 3:00 p.m. The courthouse is 1175 Civic Center Blvd; the jail is 1077 Civic Center Blvd on the same campus. Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Main line (530) 822-3300. Traffic/Criminal processing (530) 822-3303.
Public portal: portal-casutter.tylertech.cloud/Portal. In most cases the scheduled court date is a mandatory appearance. Once a complaint is filed, the clerk may advance the first date but cannot postpone it.
Public Defender, 604 B Street
If you do not hire your own attorney, ask the judge at the first appearance. The court appoints the Public Defender or Conflict Counsel. When the case ends, the judge may order repayment of some appointed-counsel fees based on income.
Sutter County Public Defender, 604 B Street, Suite 1, Yuba City, CA 95991. Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., closed noon–1:00 p.m. Fax (530) 673-7967.
Probation is not parole
A probation hold can block release after bail. Adult reporting is 595 Boyd Street, not the jail lobby.
Adult Probation & Adult Resource Center Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Juvenile Probation Services is 430 Center Street, (530) 822-4371 — that is not the detention hall.
No Sutter street office published
CDCR’s Northern Region directory (updated 9/11/2026) does not list a Yuba City or Sutter parole office. Nearest published northern units include Chico, 1370 Ridgewood Drive, Ste. 14, Chico, CA 95973, (530) 895-4534. State parole is not Sutter County Probation.
