Understand jail and prison differencesJail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
No. Jail411 lists facilities and practical information. There is no single search here covering everyone in California custody. Use the county, CDCR, BOP or ICE route that applies to the person.
CDCR state-prison audio calls from institution phones and tablets are free to the person in custody and the recipient. CDCR lists a 15-minute limit per call. County jails and federal facilities have separate arrangements; check the specific facility.
Confirm the new facility and custody system before traveling, mailing or adding money. Visiting approval, mailing addresses and account arrangements may differ. Ask the receiving facility or provider what you need to do next.
Confirm the person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility guide and its official sources before you travel.
Contact the facility holding the person and ask how to reach its medical or mental-health staff. Use the official contact link on the county or facility guide. If the concern is urgent, call the facility directly and clearly explain the immediate risk.
For California state prisons, CDCR links to health care assistance and institution inquiry lines. These are separate from county jail services. Staff may receive your concerns even when privacy requirements limit what they can tell you. Jail411 cannot relay urgent messages to a facility.
