Two adult county facilities, with different service destinations
| Facility/service | Address and practical distinction |
|---|---|
| Travis County Jail / Central Booking Facility (TCJ) | 500 W. 10th Street, Austin, TX 78701. Downtown booking and housing; personal mail and property go to the confirmed housing facility. |
| Travis County Correctional Complex (TCCC) | 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, TX 78617. County housing, the public visiting destination described on the current visit page, and Finance Building 230. |
| On-site video for either TCJ or TCCC | All county kiosk visits are administered at TCCC in Del Valle, even when the person is housed downtown. |
| Downtown bond/court offices | Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center, 509 W. 11th Street, Austin, TX 78701. Confirm the correct bond counter before travel. |
| TDCJ Travis Unit | 8101 FM 969, Austin, TX 78724; 512-926-4482. Separate state operator; county visiting/mail/money rules do not apply. |
Call jail information at 512-854-4180 to verify the current housing and service location. The Sheriff’s contact directory also lists general jail information at 512-854-9889. The word “Central Booking” does not mean everyone remains downtown after intake. A future transfer, hospital stay or other agency hold can change the next step.
Gardner Betts juvenile records, city agencies, state custody and federal/immigration systems are separate. Some current Sheriff and county web pages display a generic “Expired” label; that alone is not a facility-closure notice. The old directory’s population/capacity numbers are dated source records, not current custody counts.

Find the person and retain the right identifiers
Start with the Sheriff’s Find an Inmate page. The county directs users there for full name, birth date and jail ID or booking number; the bond page says charges show their bond information individually. Retain the current housing, booking number, each charge/bond type and the court/case number when shown. Jail ID, booking number and court cause number are not interchangeable.
- Try the legal name and known spelling variations; check that the result matches the person’s birth date.
- If no result appears, ask whether the arresting agency has finished booking or transfer. A missing online entry alone does not establish release.
- Call 512-854-4180 or 512-854-9889 with name, birth date, arrest date and agency. Ask for current location and restrictions before paying or mailing.
- Confirm again before travel. The Sheriff warns that online data should be verified before reliance.
The older public search address redirected to the Sheriff information page during review and its interactive search was unavailable. If the search does not load, use the telephone fallback rather than paying an unofficial locator.

| ViaPath visit technical help | 855-208-7349 |
| GettingOut account/transaction help | 866-516-0115 |
| ConnectNetwork telephone account help | 877-650-4249 |
| Trust Fund / commissary | 512-854-5319 |
| Medical team | 512-854-4182 |
| Unable to submit family mental-health form | 512-854-5356 |
| PREA Coordinator | 512-854-8168 |
| Pretrial personal-bond status | 512-854-9381 |
| Criminal court/case routing | 512-854-9244 |
Have the name, birth date, jail ID/booking number and a specific question ready. Save the date, office and instructions. If someone is in immediate danger, state the present risk first and ask for the responsible shift supervisor; an ordinary account-support ticket is not a jail emergency channel.

Plan a visit that can be admitted
Modes, booking, identification, children and special access.
Choose face-to-face, kiosk or remote video
The county allows two on-site visits per week, counting face-to-face or kiosk visits together. Face-to-face family visits remain non-contact; this is not permission for physical contact. The current public visit page identifies TCCC at 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, TX 78617. All on-site video for both TCJ and TCCC is administered there.
For face-to-face visits, confirm the person’s eligibility and assigned unit/booth through 512-854-4666 before booking. Do not infer a downtown social visiting destination from the downtown mailing address. At-home communication uses GettingOut tablets, a different service from driving to an on-site kiosk. Current local remote price, duration, free allowance and full unit availability were not published on the Sheriff’s page; check the actual selected person/session before funding.
The page links a unit schedule PDF, but that file could not be retrieved through the available public research tools. The general hours below are verified; the exact housing matrix, session length and exceptions remain a specific gap. Ask staff for the current unit schedule, including court, medical, work or security interruptions. Neither travel distance nor a paid session guarantees access.

Reserve and arrive before the strict cutoff
Published on-site hours are Wednesday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–9 p.m., excluding county holidays. These are a general operating window, not an all-day entitlement for every housing unit. Face-to-face visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours ahead using the Sheriff-linked ViaPath scheduling service. Kiosk visits can be scheduled in advance online or using the kiosk in the TCCC Visitation Center.
- Start from the Sheriff visit page and its scheduling link; register with your real identity and confirm the location is Travis County, Texas.
- Select the correct person, mode and available slot, then retain the confirmation and any visitor/booth instructions. If a generic portal shows a different county, stop and call 855-208-7349 or 512-854-4666 rather than booking the wrong facility.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before the visit. Check-in ends 15 minutes before; late check-ins are not accepted.
- Wait in the central lobby until staff directs you to the assigned booth, and leave the visitation area promptly at the end.
A late arrival can require registering for the next available slot. No complete current approved-list size, change cycle, background-review turnaround or visitor-denial appeal timetable was published. Confirm those questions with visitation before nonrefundable travel; a created account alone does not override jail approval or court restrictions.

Identification, children and infant-supply questions
Everyone 17 or older needs government-issued photo identification. Every minor under 17 must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The public rules do not provide an exhaustive accepted-ID list, expired-ID exception, or required birth/guardianship document list. Ask 512-854-4666 about your documents before travel, particularly guardianship, a foreign ID or a visitor without standard ID.
The published face-to-face area limit is two visitors, increased to three when a child under 12 is included. The kiosk section repeats that wording. Do not read it as three adults plus children, or assume infants are outside the total. Confirm the party’s exact ages and approved number when scheduling. Do not leave a child alone while another adult enters.
No outside food or beverages are permitted in visitation. The public page does not explain exceptions for a baby’s bottle, diaper bag, stroller, feeding or medically necessary supplies. Ask about those precise items and storage before bringing them; no broad infant-supply exemption was verified. Remote provider account-age terms are separate from the county’s physical ID threshold: an adult should manage a family account and confirm permitted child participation.

Clothes, screening and belongings
The county enforces conservative dress for all visitors. No transparent or seductive clothing, tube/halter/strapless/backless tops, muscle shirts, spaghetti straps or pajamas; no clothing with offensive or obscene language/images, gang affiliation, drugs or alcohol. Dresses/skirts cannot have high slits. Shorts must reach fingertip length with arms straight at the sides; skirts must reach the knees. Officers can deny a visit for noncompliance.
Ask visitation about medical or religious clothing needs before the appointment. The general Sheriff screening page describes emptying pockets, removing a belt, x-ray screening of belongings and walking through a metal detector, with hand-wand follow-up when needed. It does not establish that every screened item may enter a jail visiting booth. Confirm rules for phones, keys, purses, lockers and essential medical devices at 512-854-4666; a complete current visiting locker/storage policy was not verified.
Weapons, ammunition, knives, sharp tools, chemical sprays and other dangerous items are prohibited; voluntarily surrendered items are not returned under the screening policy. Secure them before approaching the checkpoint. For court appointments, the Sheriff recommends allowing 45 minutes for courthouse screening; that is distinct from the jail visit’s 30-minute arrival and 15-minute check-in cutoff.

Professional visits, accommodations and marriage
For attorney contact, the county provides a free local call to a registered attorney business number, limited to 20 minutes, not recorded. Only one business number is authorized on the list. Attorneys can leave a client callback request at 512-854-4666 with full name, birth date and booking number. This attorney service is not a general family-message line.
Attorneys must register separately in the telephone and video systems as attorneys to obtain privileged treatment; an ordinary account or a lawyer’s phone number is not automatically confidential. Use the official attorney-registration instructions; technical help is 855-208-7349, identifying the caller as an attorney. For clergy, long-distance, compassionate or disability-related visit requests, ask visitation for actual approval and scheduling; no blanket extra-visit entitlement or complete public special-visit timetable was verified.
The county provides deaf/hard-of-hearing people in custody Video Relay Services through housing-unit kiosks at no additional charge. Ask staff how to arrange VRS and other communication access. For a visitor’s interpreter, mobility or screening needs, request coordination at 512-854-4666 before travel; do not assume the remote account solves physical-access needs.

Marriage requires a separate approved process
The Sheriff describes ceremonies by appointment, normally the first Sunday of the month, 9 a.m.–1 p.m., subject to operations. The outside applicant obtains the county clerk’s absent-applicant marriage paperwork, completes Part A of the TCSO request and arranges a qualified officiant and fees. The person in custody completes Part B with an officer. Submit both required forms together through the current marriage instructions or mail them to Travis County Correctional Complex, c/o Inmate Marriage Review Team, 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, TX 78617, including name and booking number.
Security review and the facility chain of command determine approval; the Facility Captain’s Office then contacts the outside applicant with next steps. Required notary fees come from the detained person’s trust account. Only the outside spouse and officiant attend; no witnesses, minors, rings or physical contact. A ceremony may occur through glass using the phone. Applicants with active warrants, protective orders or no-contact orders are ineligible. Call 512-854-4666 before buying travel or paying an officiant; submitting a request is not an approved date.

Set up remote video for the correct facility and person
Start with the Sheriff-linked GettingOut service, create or sign into your own account and select Travis County and the correct person. Complete the identity/contact verification requested. The current provider site announces an upcoming transition to myViaPath; follow official account prompts and do not create duplicate paid accounts simply because branding changes.
Provider instructions distinguish the Friends & Family balance used for visits/messages from phone and jail trust balances. Check the displayed service, price, duration and recipient before depositing. Remote service availability depends on the actual facility/person and tablet access. Generic provider descriptions of on-demand visits, free visits or other facilities do not establish a Travis entitlement.
- Confirm the contact and available video option, then choose the slot or on-demand service actually offered.
- Use a supported device, working camera/microphone and stable internet. Provider tablet help describes computer video with Chrome and Android support; confirm current compatibility with 866-516-0115 before paying, especially for a different device.
- Test permissions, sound and image, charge the device and use a quiet private location.
- Check the displayed time zone; provider instructions use the facility’s time zone. Save confirmation and join early.
The older generic help describes advance scheduling up to 14 days; this is not a verified Travis unit booking window. The actual account availability and jail approval control. Family communications should be treated as monitored; privileged attorney registration is separate.

Cancel, troubleshoot and document a failed visit
For a scheduled GettingOut visit, provider help directs you to sign in, open Calendar, select the appointment and cancel it there. Save the cancellation status before making a replacement appointment. The public county page and generic cancellation article do not establish a current Travis cancellation deadline, no-show fee or automatic refund entitlement. Review the session terms before purchase and contact 866-516-0115 about account charges; use 855-208-7349 for ViaPath visit technical support.
If the person does not appear, check the correct account/time and reconnect once. The provider identifies court, treatment, suspended privileges, release or lack of notification as possible reasons. Confirm access with visitation at 512-854-4666; repeatedly paying for new sessions will not resolve a housing restriction. A released person’s visit may be canceled automatically, but that does not establish how every charge is refunded.
Keep the appointment ID, actual connection time, amount charged, error message, device and any cancellation notice. Ask support to distinguish used minutes, a facility cancellation, technical failure and an unused balance, then request the applicable adjustment and case reference. Older tablet help says charges reflect actual connected duration; compare the receipt with the session and seek review if they differ. No guaranteed local failed-session refund period was verified.

Keep trust, phone and message balances separate
| Balance | Purpose/contact |
|---|---|
| County Inmate Trust Fund | Commissary and authorized jail expenses. County Finance 512-854-5319; its own mail/Western Union process. |
| ConnectNetwork AdvancePay | Prepaid calls to the outside number associated with the account. Automated funding 800-483-8314; support 877-650-4249. |
| PIN Debit | The incarcerated person’s phone balance. County lists automated funding 855-706-2445; confirm ownership/refund terms before depositing. |
| GettingOut Friends & Family | Messages and remote visits where enabled; 866-516-0115. Not an automatic county trust deposit. |
| Access SecurePak order | An approved merchandise order under county eligibility/weekly limits, not cash in the telephone account. |
For calls, start with ConnectNetwork AdvancePay, create/sign into the account, add the correct facility, register the receiving number and review the rate/fees shown before payment. The provider accepts Visa/Mastercard with a matching U.S. billing address through supported channels; the county also lists the ConnectNetwork mobile app. Save confirmation and avoid sending funds to a similarly named person.
No complete current Travis per-minute phone tariff, automatic free-call quota or unit telephone timetable was verified on the public county page. The free 20-minute registered attorney call is a distinct service and should not be represented as a family allowance. An unused trust balance does not automatically pay a phone or video bill.

Receiving calls and solving connection problems
When a jail call arrives, listen to the automated instructions and accept the call as directed. Check that the receiving number is the one funded and permitted on the account. If calls fail, confirm the balance and payment status, check spam/unknown-caller blocking and ask whether a provider block, changed number or facility restriction is involved. Keep the attempted date/time and the exact recorded message.
Call ConnectNetwork at 877-650-4249 for billing/number/account troubleshooting. Call jail information at 512-854-4180 about housing access, transfer or restrictions. Do not keep adding money when the problem is an unapproved contact, wrong facility or blocked number. The county’s public page does not publish all social call limits or a guaranteed family-message delivery service; urgent clinical information should go directly to the clinical/safety contacts.
Ordinary conversations are subject to recording unless properly registered as privileged. Attorneys must use the county’s separate Do Not Record registration in each system. Provider transfers between supported facilities may work, but incompatible contracts can require closure/refund and a new account; verify the new facility before depositing again.

Request unused communication funds before deadlines
The current ConnectNetwork and GettingOut homepages publish a notice effective June 1, 2026: AdvancePay and Friends & Family accounts become inactive after 180 consecutive days without use, unless law or contract requires otherwise. Once inactive, there are 90 additional days to request a refund; after that the remaining balance is converted to calling minutes in the provider’s free-calling program. Account use resets the inactivity period. Opted-in users with contact information receive an expiration reminder no later than 30 days before expiration.
Request an AdvancePay refund through 877-650-4249 and a GettingOut Friends & Family refund through 866-516-0115. Have the account holder’s identity, number/email, payment details and current mailing address ready. Where online Close Account is offered, verify the address and unused amount before confirming. Resolve pending visit charges and preserve receipts first.
Older ConnectNetwork help still says inactive accounts cannot be refunded; that conflicts with the dated current notice. Ask support to apply the current account terms and obtain a case number. Its help describes aiming for 30 days and no more than 60 days for processing a refund request; this is provider guidance, not guaranteed bank arrival. Do not apply outside-account refund rules to PIN Debit owned by the detained person, county trust money or SecurePak merchandise.

Messages and photographs need facility approval
The Sheriff identifies messaging and multimedia through the GettingOut tablet program. Sign into the correct facility/contact, fund the appropriate Friends & Family balance and check the displayed price before sending. The provider says messages must be approved by the facility and appear when the person next signs into the system; sending is not proof of immediate reading.
Photo sharing is available only at participating facilities and, under provider instructions, uses the app. Photos require approval and rejected photos are not refunded. Confirm Travis eligibility and current local content/size limits before buying; the public county page does not publish a complete local electronic-message tariff, character/photo allowance or guaranteed approval time. Postal-photo rules below should not be mistaken for a promise that an electronic attachment will pass review.
Use 866-516-0115 for account or transaction problems and 512-854-4666 for jail access questions. Keep the rejection notice and item date when asking for review. Do not use ordinary messages for emergencies, confidential legal strategy or a time-sensitive court filing. Generic provider voicemail features are not separately verified as a Travis family service.

Mail to confirmed housing, not the visiting kiosk location
| Housing | Envelope destination |
|---|---|
| TCJ / Central Booking | Full name + date of birth + jail ID or booking number Travis County Jail 500 W. 10th Street Austin, TX 78701 |
| TCCC / Del Valle | Full name + date of birth + jail ID or booking number Travis County Correctional Complex 3614 Bill Price Road Del Valle, TX 78617 |
Include the sender’s name and return address. The Sheriff requires correspondence to go directly to the facility where the person is housed. Verify housing and identifiers through the official lookup or 512-854-4180 before sending, particularly after a transfer. The fact that all kiosk visits take place in Del Valle does not redirect downtown residents’ personal mail there.
The county’s published instructions do not direct ordinary family letters to a third-party scanning address. Do not import another Texas county’s digital-mail address or the separate TDCJ state-prison process. Trust deposits use a different address and payee, explained in the money section. Keep a copy of important correspondence and do not enclose irreplaceable original certificates.

Paper, photographs, prohibited enclosures and returns
The county’s contraband page says a prohibited item causes the entire contents of the letter/package to be rejected and returned. Ordinary items/photos must not exceed 8 × 10 inches; internet copies/printouts may not exceed 25 pages. Do not enclose loose postage or stationery supplies, spare blank/addressed/stamped envelopes, labels, sticky notes, adhesives/tape, glitter, glue, paint, ribbon, magnets or writing instruments. Unsigned/blank cards and musical/attached greeting cards are prohibited.
No Polaroids, framed photos, albums, negatives, slides or laminated images. The county rejects altered/blacked-out photos, gang/hand signs, prohibited sexual content and partial/nudity including baby photos, excessive violence or unlawful/weapon-related imagery. No original birth/marriage certificates, Social Security cards, IDs, car titles, credit/phone cards, food, clothes, hygiene items, medication, substances, staples or paper clips. A current numeric photograph cap was not separately published.
Retain a copy, mailing date and return/rejection notice. Ask the mailroom through 512-854-4180 for the exact reason and whether a corrected submission or review is available. The public page does not publish a complete sender-appeal deadline, original-item storage period or special tracking process; do not assume a destruction/return rule from another jail. A carrier delivery scan does not prove distribution to the person.

Publication limits and confidential legal correspondence
The contact page permits paperback books, magazines and newspapers directly from a publisher or distributing warehouse, with a possession limit of two books and two magazines. The contraband page also permits a U.S. publication supplier or bookstore, requiring a store hand stamp on the return address and a U.S. directory listing; it bars shipments from individuals and limits each shipment to two books and two magazines. These are different supplier descriptions. Confirm a particular seller and the person’s current holdings before ordering; a shipment within its own limit can still exceed the possession limit.
No hardcovers, oversized or spiral-bound books, torn-out pages, dirty/damaged/discolored used publications, enclosed correspondence or writing in the item. The prohibited list also names maps, calendars, mail-order catalogs, coded books, sketchbooks, journals, posters and diagrams. Do not assume a popular retailer or a gift note is accepted. Orders go directly to confirmed housing, and excess books/magazines may be returned to the publisher.
For legal mail, counsel should confirm the recognized sender, envelope marking and receiving address with 512-854-4180. The current public family pages do not give a complete privileged-mail inspection procedure. The May 2026 audit describes unrestricted outgoing access to legal/external reporting correspondence, but this does not turn an ordinary family envelope or electronic message into privileged mail. Use registered attorney phone/video for confidential discussion.

Money, care and safety
Trust funds, clinical needs and distinct complaint channels.
Fund the county trust account by its published channels
| Method | Address, hours and restrictions |
|---|---|
| In person | TCCC Finance Building 230, 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, TX 78617; Monday–Friday 9 a.m.–3 p.m., county holidays closed. No credit/debit or ordinary checks. The page expressly allows money orders/cashier’s checks payable to Inmate Trust Fund, without county fees. |
| By mail | Inmate Trust Fund Person’s full name + jail ID/booking number P.O. Box 1368 Del Valle, TX 78617 Include birth date and sender name/return address; money order or cashier’s check payable to Inmate Trust Fund. |
| Money-order limit | The county does not accept money orders over $100. This published limit is not a verified limit for every other payment instrument. |
Before paying, confirm name, birth date and jail ID/booking number. Cash acceptance at the Finance window is not explicitly established by the current page; call 512-854-5319 rather than treating a cash-bond rule as a deposit rule. Never send cash or a phone-account payment to the personal-mail address.
Undated closure notice: the Finance page says it closes Wednesday, September 30 through Friday, October 2 and reopens Monday, October 5, but gives no year. Those weekdays match more than one year. This guide does not certify it as a 2026 closure; call before an in-person trip around those dates. The page says mail and Western Union remain options during that notice’s closure.

Use the exact Western Union booking format
The Sheriff lists Western Union online, telephone 800-634-3422, or a Western Union retailer found through 800-325-6000. Tell the retailer it is a jail trust deposit. The county says credit/debit are accepted through Western Union, provider fees apply and deposits are posted the following business day; that is not instant availability over a weekend or holiday.
The required account identifier is the seven-digit booking number followed by the last name, without hyphens or spaces, up to 23 characters. The page prints the Sheriff code-city entry as “TCSOITF TX”. Have the agent/provider confirm the code city and Texas state fields exactly as its form requires. One example on the county page has an inconsistent digit count; use the verified booking number and written seven-digit instruction, not that malformed example.
Review recipient, code, amount, fees and expected delivery before submission. Keep the transaction/control number. If money is missing, ask Western Union at 800-325-6000 to trace delivery and then County Finance at 512-854-5319 to verify jail credit. Avoid a duplicate deposit while the first is pending. Provider charges go to Western Union, not the Sheriff.

Commissary orders, SecurePak and indigent requests
The person orders traditional commissary through housing kiosks using the Inmate Trust Fund. For outside packages, use only the county-linked Access SecurePak ordering channel. The person cannot receive SecurePak while the trust account has a debt balance; the county will not disclose that balance to the public, so ask the person to check it before ordering.
SecurePak allows $100 total merchandise per person per week, separate from the ordinary weekly commissary allowance. County guidance says delivery is 10–14 days after order processing. Use the full name and jail/booking ID. Order online or at 800-546-6283; automated service is 24/7, customer service Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–11 p.m. CST, Saturday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. CST as printed by the county.
Accepted package payments include credit/debit with a valid U.S. billing address, prepaid cards that can be assigned such an address, and cashier’s check/money order payable to Access SecurePak. Cards are charged when ordered; refunds go to the original card and may take up to 30 days. Save the order and ask the vendor about rejected, missing, transferred or released-person orders.
Do not substitute a homemade mailed package. The public county pages do not publish a complete indigent hygiene/writing allowance, debt-repayment formula or unit commissary calendar. The person should request needed basic supplies through housing staff; family can ask Finance at 512-854-5319 for the current local process. Immediate health needs should not wait for merchandise delivery.

Money released to a designee and remaining funds
The property policy allows the person to authorize a specified amount of stored money to a designee after signing the required release form. The recipient needs valid photo ID and must use the correct housing facility’s money-release hours. Those hours differ from the Finance deposit window; see the property table below.
Before the person leaves custody, ask how their remaining trust balance is returned, whether a card/check or another method is used, whether fees apply and what to do if money is missing. The current public pages do not publish a full routine release-balance method, card fee schedule or automatic vendor-account refund. Keep the booking number, deposit/order receipts and release date; County Finance at 512-854-5319 handles trust questions.
Ask about outstanding debt and pending commissary/SecurePak orders before adding more money near release. County money, ConnectNetwork balances and GettingOut funds require separate follow-up. A successful payment to a provider is not proof that the jail still holds the person or that unused money has already been returned.

Give medical information and coordinate treatment
Call the medical team at 512-854-4182 with current diagnoses, prescriptions, allergies, outside clinician/pharmacy details and urgent changes. Clinical staff must secure the patient’s signed consent before disclosing protected information to family. Providing useful history does not itself authorize the team to discuss treatment with you.
Do not bring medication unless medical staff contacts you and requests it. The jail has an on-site pharmacy for most prescriptions and nursing staff available 24/7; this does not mean a public pharmacy counter is open all night. Ask the team directly about continuity, a missing prescription or required outside records. In custody, the person should request care through staff and immediately tell the post officer about an emergency.
The Sheriff lists medical and dental care, women’s health/OB-GYN, wound care, physical therapy, laboratory/X-ray services and a registered-nurse case manager for complex discharge needs. Availability depends on clinical assessment. Public pages do not publish a complete family drop-off protocol for eyeglasses, hearing devices or other medical equipment; arrange those items with the clinical team before traveling. Ask early about discharge medication, follow-up appointments and Medical Access Program resources.

For an immediate self-harm concern, the Sheriff says to call 512-854-9889 immediately, available 24/7. Give the person’s name, booking number, location if known, exact recent statements/behavior and any immediate risk. Ask staff to relay the concern to the responsible officer and mental-health team. Do not wait for an ordinary web-form reply.
The mental-health page links a family information form read by clinical staff. Staff respond only if more information is needed; no reply is not proof that nothing was received. If you cannot complete it, call 512-854-5356. The department screens people at Central Booking and can reassess them and their housing based on individual needs.
The published policy says medication is automatically continued when the patient enters with an active prescription; without an active prescription, staff assess and refer for psychiatric evaluation when appropriate. Give precise current prescription/pharmacy information so the team can verify the individual situation. This is not permission to bring pills without medical authorization or a guarantee about a particular clinical decision.
For community crisis support after release, Integral Care provides a 24/7 helpline at 512-472-4357, toll-free 844-398-8252, TTY 512-703-1395. Its Psychiatric Emergency Services walk-in site is 1165 Airport Boulevard, second floor, Austin, TX 78701, 24/7. Ask jail clinicians to coordinate continuing care before discharge.

Internal complaints and staff misconduct
For an ordinary condition or service complaint, the person should request the current inmate grievance procedure from housing staff, identify the issue and desired remedy, keep submission dates and use the stated appeal process. The reviewed public pages did not establish a complete current non-PREA filing deadline, response period or appeal ladder. Ask for the current handbook/form rather than borrowing state-prison rules. Urgent medical or safety problems also need immediate reporting.
Internal Affairs investigates misconduct by Travis County Sheriff employees, not guilt/innocence, court decisions or another agency’s personnel. It normally does not investigate unsigned, anonymous or third-party complaints; ask how a family member can assist a signed first-person complaint. That ordinary misconduct rule does not cancel the separate anonymous/third-party PREA reporting options below.
The Sheriff provides English and Spanish complaint forms. Contact IA at 512-854-8401 or 5555 Airport Boulevard, Austin, TX 78751, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., excluding county holidays. Supply dates, location, involved staff, witnesses and records. The page describes a typical investigation of 60–90 calendar days with notice by phone, letter or email; this is not an emergency response timetable.

State county-jail oversight has a limited scope
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) receives county-jail conditions complaints. Its process does not cover TDCJ prisons, city jails or juvenile facilities. It also excludes matters such as criminal acts, PREA allegations, excessive force, civil-rights claims, staff rudeness, court/attorney decisions and many internal departmental-policy disputes. Use the relevant emergency, PREA, misconduct or legal channel for those issues.
Use the official complaint/inquiry form with the county, person’s name, complainant contact details and specific facts. A telephone complaint requires written follow-up. Mail may go to TCJS, P.O. Box 12985, Austin, TX 78711; call 512-463-5505. The agency says to ask about status if more than 30 days have passed. A disagreement with findings can be appealed to its assistant director for final written review. Keep copies, but do not wait for this administrative process when someone is in immediate danger.

Report sexual abuse or harassment through a protected channel
A person can report sexual abuse or harassment to any officer, employee, volunteer or contractor, through a request/grievance, the internal PREA hotline or the outside SAFE resource. Family and other third parties can use the Sheriff’s PREA report form or contact the PREA Coordinator at 512-854-8168. The current audit confirms written, verbal, anonymous and third-party reports; a signed ordinary IA complaint is not a prerequisite.
For confidential victim support, contact SAFE at 512-267-7233 or write SAFE, P.O. Box 19454, Austin, TX 78760. The May 2026 audit describes SAFE calls and letters as unmonitored and staff informing people of confidentiality and mandatory-reporting limits; ask the advocate about those limits before sharing details. Support and making an official investigative report are different choices.
Give the person’s name/location, what happened, when, who was involved and any current threat. Ask for immediate protection and medical attention when needed. The audit describes retaliation monitoring for at least 90 days, longer when necessary; report new threats or adverse treatment promptly. This is a process requirement, not a promise that retaliation cannot occur.

Sexual-abuse grievances and emergency deadlines
The Sheriff’s May 26, 2026 PREA audit, covering TCJ and TCCC, describes no filing time limit for a sexual-abuse grievance, no required informal resolution, and routing that avoids the accused staff member. Family or another third party may assist or file with the victim’s agreement; the victim must pursue subsequent steps, and a refusal is documented.
The ordinary final decision is due within 90 days, excluding time the person spends preparing an appeal. An extension of up to 70 days requires written notice and the expected decision date. No response within the relevant limit may be treated as denial at that level.
An emergency grievance alleging a substantial risk of imminent sexual abuse receives immediate safety review, an initial response within 48 hours and a final decision within 5 calendar days. Anyone may help bring the emergency to staff. These administrative limits are not instructions to wait: report immediate danger directly to staff and call the jail’s urgent line 512-854-9889. These are specific PREA procedures, not verified deadlines for every ordinary grievance.

Courts, property and coming home
Counsel, bond, refunds, release and local reentry.
Find the case, hearing and first-appearance lawyer
Use the county’s criminal docket search for scheduled hearings and case records portal for case records. Check the cause number, court and hearing type; a jail charge listing is not the full court calendar. Criminal Court Administration at 509 W. 11th Street, Austin, TX 78701, 512-854-9244, can route a case question. Confirm dates with the assigned court, especially after a transfer or release.
The Counsel at First Appearance program operates on the first floor of that courthouse. It provides confidential attorney consultation before magistration about rights, bail conditions, personal bond and appointment of counsel, with sufficient preparation time. Proceedings generally involve physical presence, with specified exceptions such as illness, safety or emergencies. The public page does not promise a particular hour after booking or automatic release.
For felony record/refund matters use the District Clerk; for misdemeanor matters use the County Clerk. Court fees, bail deposits and jail trust deposits are separate payments. If you do not know the assigned court or lawyer, start with the cause number and Court Administration rather than paying an unsolicited caller.

Contact appointed counsel and protect legal communication
The Travis County Public Defender is at 1010 Lavaca Street, Austin, TX 78701, 512-854-5100; use the south entrance, changed November 17, 2025. Mail goes to P.O. Box 103, Austin, TX 78767. Not every appointed attorney works for that office. For a CAPDS appointment call 512-774-4208; the county lists the court-appointed attorney supervisor at 512-854-5507.
Ask which attorney represents the person and how to send documents or request confidential contact. The Public Defender warns that court-appointed attorneys do not ask families for money to obtain release. Verify an unexpected payment request through the office’s published number.
The attorney must separately register both telephone and video for the county’s Do Not Record treatment. A family account or ordinary video call does not become confidential merely because a lawyer joins it. Use the attorney-registration process described above; the jail can receive an attorney callback message through 512-854-4666, but this is not a general family-message service.

Read every bond and use the correct payment counter
| Entry/type | Action |
|---|---|
| ANY | The charge may permit cash, surety or personal bond, subject to judicial approval and conditions. |
| Cash or surety | Personal bond is not listed as available for that charge. |
| No bond information available | Information may not yet be set or entered; ask the jail. This wording alone is not a judicial no-bond order. |
| Personal bond | Pretrial Services or an attorney requests judicial approval; signing and conditions still matter. |
Confirm every charge, other hold, amount and payment location at 512-854-4180. The Sheriff lists bond payment at Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center, 509 W. 11th Street, Austin, TX 78701, or TCCC, 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, TX 78617. A trust deposit or provider payment does not post bond.
For cash bond, bring the exact full cash amount; no change or overpayment is accepted. The county also lists a cashier’s check or money order payable to Travis County Sheriff’s Office. Out-of-county bonds have separate instrument/payee instructions; confirm the receiving jurisdiction before buying one. A surety company’s premium/contract is different from a refundable cash-bond deposit; confirm county approval and terms without assuming the premium will be returned.
Personal-bond processing fees depend on the amount and whether an ignition interlock is ordered; use the detailed fee section below and confirm the order with Pretrial at 512-854-9381. Investigations is at 509 W. 11th Street, Gault Annex Room 2.100; case management is at 411 W. 13th Street, Executive Office Building Room 401. Follow reporting and no-contact conditions even after leaving custody.

Personal-bond fee tiers and payment instructions
The dedicated Pretrial Services fee page gives more precise rules than the Sheriff’s short “$40 or 3%” summary. The county’s current Pretrial page still links to this schedule, but it displays “Expired” without a clear effective date. Confirm the current amount and payment instructions with Pretrial before paying. Fees are due within 7 days of release for personal bonds, including release through an attorney. Confirm the judge’s bond amount, conditions and your reference name/PT number with Pretrial at 512-854-9381.
| Situation | Fee |
|---|---|
| Bond below $1,334 | Processing fee $20. |
| Bond $1,334 or more | Processing fee $40. |
| Judge orders an ignition interlock device (IID) | Processing fee 3% of bond, maximum $300; an additional $10 for each month the device is installed and monitored by Pretrial. Do not send advance payments. |
| Method | Instructions |
|---|---|
| Online | Use the county-linked Certified Payments site, Bureau Code 7270508, amount and reference name/PT number. Online service fee 2.75%, minimum $1. |
| Money order or cashier’s check payable to Travis County Pretrial Services; mail to Travis County Pretrial Services, P.O. Box 1748, Austin, TX 78767. | |
| CJC, 509 W. 11th Street, Room 2.100 | Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m.: money order, cashier’s check or credit card. Monday–Friday 4–8:30 p.m.: credit card. Holidays/weekends 8 a.m.–8:30 p.m.: drop box. |
| EOB, 411 W. 13th Street, fourth floor | Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.: credit card only; no money order, cashier’s check or cash. |
No cash or personal checks are accepted, and never put cash in the drop box. Start from the official fee page to reach Certified Payments, verify the bureau and reference before paying, and retain the receipt. These are Pretrial administrative fees, not a jail trust deposit or a substitute for the required bond/release order. Contact Pretrial if the order, amount or payment posting is unclear.

Recover a cash bond through the correct clerk
A release from jail does not automatically refund a cash bond. For felony cases, the District Clerk requires a filed judge’s refund order and describes a 30-day waiting period plus 7–10 business days for processing, followed by a mailed check. Some refunds have a 5% fee, capped at $50, except Family Court bonds. Do not apply that felony timeline or fee to every misdemeanor deposit.
The order must identify the cause/style, amount, claimant’s name, address and phone, date and judge’s signature; include the Sheriff’s receipt. A claimant different from the receipt’s depositor needs a notarized Assignment of Cash Bond Securities. Attorneys must e-file. Public filers may use permitted electronic filing, mail to District Clerk, Attn: Criminal Bonds, P.O. Box 679003, Austin, TX 78767, or deliver to 501 W. 11th Street, Room 2.300, Austin, TX 78701. Keep the address current.
For misdemeanor Class A/B and appealed Class C matters, the County Clerk FAQ directs an Order Refunding Cash Bond to its Misdemeanor Records Division by mail or in person, not fax. Call 512-854-9188, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., for the correct current submission destination and status. Child-support cash bonds have a separate payment-to-payee rule; do not assume they return to the poster. Court costs and any surety-company premium are separate from these refund processes.

Collect property only after the person authorizes release
| Location/service | Hours |
|---|---|
| TCJ — property and money | Daily 7:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. |
| TCCC — property | Daily 7:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. |
| TCCC — money | Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–8:30 p.m. |
At booking, valuables such as keys, identification, wallet and jewelry are inventoried and sealed separately from clothing. Before a designee comes, the person must sign the required release form; the recipient must bring valid photo ID. Release of the sealed valuable-property bag is all or nothing, with clothing retained as required. Money can be authorized in a specified amount. Confirm which housing facility holds the items at 512-854-4180.
The policy allows special arrangements when property is needed to secure release. Its downtown exception wording says “Sunday–Friday 24/7,” an internally unclear description; do not treat it as a verified Saturday or unrestricted after-hours counter. Call for an arrangement before traveling outside the table’s hours. These collection hours are separate from Finance’s deposit window.
On transfer to prison, the person must designate someone to collect stored property within 30 days, or it may be disposed of. If items were never delivered to jail, contact the arresting agency. The page does not grant a general right to drop off clothing or equipment; arrange court clothes or medically necessary items with the responsible staff first.

Plan pickup around actual release clearance
Posting one bond, seeing an order or reaching an expected release date does not settle other cases, holds or the jail’s processing. Confirm all requirements and the actual release location at 512-854-4180. The reviewed public sources do not promise a release time, a single family exit door or a public waiting arrangement. Ask where the person will leave and whether they are ready before committing to a pickup or a last bus.
- Check the court order, other holds, next hearing and Pretrial reporting/no-contact conditions.
- Ask clinical staff about prescriptions, follow-up, equipment and a complex-discharge plan before departure.
- Check identification, sealed property, clothing, remaining money and pending commissary orders; retain receipts and the booking number.
- Arrange transport from the confirmed facility, a working contact number and an alternative if processing outlasts transit.
- Contact reentry or community care promptly about housing, documents and appointments.
A change to the online custody record is useful to verify, but it does not establish a completed handoff to a family member. Do not send a driver to the downtown mail address when the confirmed exit is in Del Valle.

Apply for local reentry support and continuing care
Travis County reentry services include help with employment, resumes/interviews, vocational opportunities, identification/vital records, peer support and case management for a minimum of 6 months. Limited emergency housing fees through selected providers are not a guaranteed bed or open-ended rent benefit. Explain urgent housing, medication, disability, transport and family needs during intake.
The current intake page describes free services for Travis and surrounding counties and a typical response within 24 hours, with individual needs affecting next steps. One prose link on that page points to a demonstration intake system while its application button points to the production service. Start on the county page, use the current application button and confirm with staff before entering sensitive information if a page says “demo.” Call 512-854-6497 for reentry routing; the county’s resource guide is being redesigned. For other Texas counties, the county suggests 2-1-1.
Ask the jail’s medical/mental-health team to link ongoing treatment before discharge; Integral Care’s crisis line is 512-472-4357. Keep release papers, court conditions and appointment contacts together. Program response estimates do not replace an immediate safety or overnight shelter plan.

Make the trip and a return plan
Public parking, current transit approaches and nearby contacts.
Choose parking for the correct destination
For downtown TCJ/court business, the county identifies Central Parking System, 510 W. 11th Street, between San Antonio and Nueces Streets, and metered streets accepting coins or credit cards. Current garage rates, opening hours, clearance and space availability were not published in the reviewed county guidance; check the operator/signs before entering. The jail is at 500 W. 10th, while bonding/court business is at 509 W. 11th; confirm your door and allow time for screening.
Executive Office Building and Criminal Justice Center garages are employee-only; unauthorized vehicles may be towed. Do not interpret a county address as permission to park in its garage. Court screening guidance suggests arriving 45 minutes early, whereas a jail visit has the separate 30-minute arrival / 15-minute check-in cutoff.
For TCCC at 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, the public visit page does not give a complete numbered visitor-lot map, accessible curb/drop-off description or verified parking charge. Call visitation at 512-854-4666 for the designated lot and accessible approach, especially with a wheelchair, infant or mobility limitation. Do not assume street parking along FM 973 or a bus loop is a safe waiting/drop-off location.

Route 271 reaches the Del Valle complex
CapMetro Route 271 loops into the correctional complex via FM 973 and Bill Price Road in both directions. The current published feed identifies stop 3238, Travis Correctional Facility, on Bill Price near FM 973. Both directions use the loop, so check the headsign: Grove westbound goes toward Austin connections; Del Valle eastbound continues toward Del Valle. Do not assume every departing bus is the useful return toward Austin.

Facility record / Texas
Travis County Correctional Complex is a county or city jail in Del Valle, Travis County, Texas. It has a rated capacity of 2,806 and a reported population of 2,340 — about 83% occupancy, as recorded in the February 2026 federal dataset. By capacity it is the 5th-largest of the 255 county or city jail records listed for Texas with a published capacity. It is one of 5 correctional facilities in Travis County.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
