Locate the right Houston building, plan a visit, send mail and money, and get help with care or release. The steps, addresses and local travel details are brought together here, with separate instructions where housing makes a difference.
Housing and release status change. Confirm the person is still here before driving, mailing or depositing money.
JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

Adult Harris County custody in the downtown Houston facilities. Contract housing outside Houston, juvenile detention, state prisons and federal custody have different procedures. Confirm the current housing record before using a local service.
Save the SPN, building, floor and pod.
Use the correct visit schedule, mail address and payment account.
Recheck housing, keep receipts and arrange a release-day contact.
The custody record, Houston buildings and transfers.
Start with the Sheriff’s live custody search. Use the person’s SPN if you have it, or the name and date-of-birth fields; the name search requires at least three characters. Save the full booked name, SPN, current building, floor/pod and case information together.
The SPN identifies the person; it does not by itself tell you which jail’s visiting or deposit rules apply. Check housing again before traveling or paying. A Harris County case can involve a person held at a contracted facility outside Houston.
Check the spelling, date of birth and any known booking name. Ask the arresting agency whether transfer to county custody is complete. Then call jail information at 713-755-5300 with the name, date of birth, arrest date and SPN if known. Ask whether the person is still being processed, has moved or has been released. The FAQ says visits are unavailable during processing and when the person is away in court or a hospital; a missing visit slot does not alone establish release.

| Building | Published contact | Use the correct task destination |
|---|---|---|
| 700 N. San Jacinto · Joint Processing Center | 713-755-5300 | Intake/JPC; the published bond, release-exit and final property-pickup destination. |
| 701 N. San Jacinto | 346-286-2840 | Use the housing floor for visits. The Sheriff describes the entrance as facing Buffalo Bayou. |
| 711 N. San Jacinto | 346-286-2998 | Visiting uses the A-1/B-1 schedule. The Sheriff describes 701 and 711 as part of the same building. |
| 1200 Baker Street | 346-286-2211 | Use the current floor schedule and the facility lobby. |
| 1307 Baker Street | 346-286-2600 | The current visiting table gives no separate floor row; call for the applicable schedule. |
Stop before using a Houston visit or deposit instruction. The current visiting page gives Olla, Louisiana at 318-495-6209, Beaumont at 409-434-4653 and Natchitoches, Louisiana at 318-357-9300. It also gives separate remote-video information for Tallahatchie. Confirm the actual facility, its booking identifier, appointment system, mail destination and payment provider. Older FAQ lists and today’s housing record may differ; the older list is not proof that the person is still at that facility.

Floor schedules, ID, children, video and accommodations.
Register in the official visiting portal and schedule up to seven days ahead. Lobby kiosks support registration, but same-day availability is not guaranteed. Bring the printed email confirmation; Visitor Control can print it if you cannot.
Arrive 30 minutes before the appointment at the main lobby of the housing building. Visits last 20 minutes and allow up to two visitors. Regular visiting windows are Tuesday–Sunday, 1–5 p.m. and 7:30–10 p.m.; the last scheduled visit starts at 9:30 p.m. There are no regular Monday visits.
| Day | 1200 Baker floors | 701 N. San Jacinto floors | 711 N. San Jacinto |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | 1 and 6 | 2 and 7 | A-1 |
| Wednesday | 2 and 5 | 3 and 6 | B-1 |
| Thursday | 3 and 4 | 4 and 5 | A-1 |
| Friday | 4 and 3 | 5 and 4 | B-1 |
| Saturday | 5 and 2 | 6 and 3 | A-1 |
| Sunday | 6 and 1 | 7 and 2 | B-1 |
JPC exception: people in JA14 have visits 4–8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Do not apply the 1–5/7:30–10 windows to that location. For 1307 Baker, call 346-286-2600 because the official table does not publish a separate row.
An unavailable date can reflect restrictions, quarantine or an existing visit. The person or facility can cancel a scheduled session, with notice by email. Check your confirmation and messages before departing; call the housing building if the record or appointment is unclear. Long-distance travel does not establish an exception or guarantee admission—request any special arrangement before booking the trip.
A child is 16 or younger under Harris visiting rules and does not need separate portal registration. At least one of the two visitors must be an adult age 17 or older with valid photo identification. Count a child as one of the two visitors; do not assume children are additional guests.
| Requirement | Published rule |
|---|---|
| Identification | Accepted examples include a state driver’s license/ID, U.S. passport, military/dependent ID, specified consular documents, ICE-issued ID and TDCJ ID. Foreign-passport and other government-ID conditions require careful checking. |
| Expired or unusual ID | An expired state license/ID without a renewal slip is unacceptable. The stated Texas renewal exception involves a valid DPS renewal and credible photo identification, subject to supervisor review. Photocopies and altered documents are not accepted. |
| Clothing | Sleeves must reach at least halfway down the upper arm; hems cannot be above mid-thigh. Avoid revealing/transparent clothing, uncovered spandex/tights, and obscene or gang material. |
| What reaches the visit | Only the storage-locker key. Phones, wallets, papers and other belongings must stay out; food, drinks, packages, photos and mail cannot be left for the person. |
Free small lockers are specifically listed for the 701 and 1200 lobbies. Confirm storage at other buildings. If a visitor needs infant supplies, medication, a mobility device or an ID exception, call the building beforehand for an approved arrangement. The public rules do not supply a reliable blanket exception for those items.
The list includes Mexican and Guatemalan consular identification and foreign passports with the specified valid entry documentation, including an I-94 where applicable. Other government photo ID may require supervisor approval. A credit card, Social Security card, birth certificate or marriage license is not a substitute for the accepted visitor ID. Ask Visitor Control about your actual document before the trip.
The current Houston instructions describe incoming video through Securus Mobile / AdvanceConnect. This is a separate process from booking an in-person appointment.
For account or connection help, call Securus at 800-844-6591. Record the time, error and any charge when reporting a failed session. Ask support about the specific refund or credit outcome; this guide does not promise one. The current Houston mobile instructions do not establish a universal call duration or a scheduled-session guarantee. Contract facilities have separate video processes.

Call the actual housing building before the visit and explain the required accommodation, appointment date and contact number. Ask which entrance to use, where staff will meet you, how mobility or medical equipment will be screened, and whether an interpreter or other communication aid must be arranged.
The public visiting material reviewed does not identify a single dedicated physical-accessibility coordinator or a general infant/medical-item exception. Ask Visitor Control to route the request and retain the answer. A website accessibility form is not confirmation of a jail-visit accommodation.
For the trip, METRO says all buses are accessible. METROLift is for customers who have already been approved for that service; it is not an automatic same-day alternative. A transit stop near the courts does not establish that the final crossing, sidewalk and jail entrance meet your access needs.

Phone accounts, two mail destinations and commissary.
| Purpose | Houston service | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Calls / approved incoming video | Securus / AdvanceConnect | The receiving account and approved contact must be set up correctly. |
| Commissary / personal trust funds | Access Corrections and listed deposit methods | Use the person’s booked name and SPN; this is not a phone balance. |
| Court-authorized bond payment | Harris County’s bond process | Confirm the case, bond type and amount through the official process. A trust deposit does not post bond. |
Keep the provider, account purpose, person’s identifier, amount, date and confirmation number together. Before a transfer, ask each provider about unused funds; balances do not automatically follow the person to a different operator.
The Sheriff warns it will never demand cash or bail payments over the phone. If someone calls claiming a payment is urgently required, independently verify the case and payment channel using the published jail or court contacts rather than the caller’s instructions.

People in the jail cannot receive incoming calls. Outgoing calls can be collect if your telephone service accepts them, or through a prepaid Securus account. Set up the receiving number and review current rates with Securus or 800-844-6591. Follow the automated acceptance prompt. The same support number handles blocking unwanted calls.
Do not forward, conference or transfer a custody call. If a call fails, check the receiving number, prepaid balance, provider block and your carrier’s restrictions; save the time and recorded error for support. A family message to a general jail office is not a way to put an incoming call through.
HCSO identifies Correct Solutions for Olla (877-618-3516) and Smart Communications for Beaumont (888-253-5178). Its page states Securus and Correct Solutions balances cannot be transferred between those providers; request the appropriate refund and open the correct new account. Verify the current housing and provider before making another payment. Do not assume Houston phone or video funds work at Natchitoches or Tallahatchie.
A single current Houston all-in call price was not established by the reviewed Sheriff instructions. Use the account’s rate and payment disclosures before depositing, and distinguish the per-minute charge from any transaction charge.

The Sheriff’s personal-mail processing change took effect June 16, 2025. Ordinary letters are scanned for access by tablet or kiosk. Include your full return name/address and the person’s housing/cell information. This Florida destination does not replace the separate legal or authorized-publication channel.
| Housing | Street destination |

| JPC / 700 N. San Jacinto | 700 N. San Jacinto St. |
| 701 or 711 N. San Jacinto | 701 N. San Jacinto St. |
| 1200 Baker | 1200 Baker St. |
| 1307 Baker | 1307 Baker St. |
Do not send cash, checks, money orders, packages or certified mail to the personal-mail processor. The page also prohibits items such as stamps, food, medicine and contaminated correspondence. Send a properly stamped, self-addressed return envelope if you need the original returned; the posted process otherwise provides for destruction after 90 days.
The new processing notice allows pictures/drawings on paper up to 8.5 × 11 inches, while older text on the same page describes photos no larger than 5 × 7 and a maximum of ten. Those statements have not been reconciled here. Before sending irreplaceable photos or a large batch, ask jail mail staff through 713-755-5300 which rule applies. Keep copies and do not assume the original will be retained indefinitely.
Books, publications and legal material do not automatically follow the Tampa personal-letter route. The Sheriff reserves a local channel for legal and preauthorized items. Before ordering a book or subscription, ask mail staff to confirm the approved sender, format, quantity and street address for the current housing.
Do not send a retail care package to a jail lobby or the Florida processor. The current official sources reviewed did not establish an approved Houston family-package catalog or current package spending/quantity limits. A seller describing itself as a jail-package service is not proof that Harris accepts the order.
For ordinary purchases, the person uses the commissary trust account. If essential hygiene or writing supplies are missing and the person has no funds, ask them to request assistance from housing staff. Families can identify a persistent unmet need through the Quality of Life process. A precise current indigent-supply eligibility rule was not found in the reviewed family instructions.

For the Houston facilities, HCSO lists Access Corrections web/app deposits, telephone assistance at 866-345-1884, jail kiosks and cash payments through participating retail locations using the CashPayToday barcode process. Select the correct facility and booked person before approving payment; keep the receipt and review fees and any transaction limit shown.
The FAQ lists weekly commissary purchases up to $150, subject to sufficient funds, sanctions and medical restrictions on purchases. A deposit does not guarantee an immediate order or access to every item.
Those rules describe an authorized withdrawal during custody. They do not establish how every remaining balance is delivered at final release; ask staff how to collect it before leaving.
The Sheriff lists separate methods for Olla, Beaumont and Tallahatchie. Tallahatchie transactions require its commissary number, which may differ from the SPN. The Natchitoches deposit section still says instructions will be provided. Confirm that facility’s current method directly; do not assume another contractor’s code or address will work.

Named parking options, transit stops and local services.
A May 15, 2026 County Auditor report identifies the following locations. Its parking table reflects the reviewed county contract and historical operations; it supplies useful addresses, not a live space count or today’s opening hours.
| Location | Address | Public access shown in the report |
|---|---|---|
| Congress Plaza Garage | 1019 Congress St. | Yes |
| Triangle Lot | 800 N. San Jacinto St. | Yes |
| Congress Garage | 1401 Congress St. | No general public parking designation |
| Baker Street Garage | 1200 Baker St. | No |
| Baker Street Lot | 1300 Baker St. | No |
Start with Congress Plaza or Triangle Lot and confirm posted access, price, closing time and late vehicle retrieval before parking. Current rates and evening/weekend hours were not verified. A juror parking arrangement does not establish free parking for jail visitors, and proximity does not authorize use of a staff lot.
Choose the actual jail entrance before selecting a garage. Keep time for the remaining walk and the required 30-minute early arrival. For a mobility-related drop-off, ask the housing building where the driver may stop; this review does not certify a step-free route from any lot.

METRO’s courthouse guide lists the following routes and directional stops. They reach the nearby court district; the trip still needs a final walk to the correct Houston jail entrance. These are published route options, not live arrivals or a claim that every bus stops at the jail door.

| 11 Almeda/Lyons · 51 Hardy-Kelley · 52 Hardy-Ley | Southbound | Fannin @ Franklin |

| 20 Canal/Memorial · 30 Clinton/Ella · 48 Market | Westbound | Congress @ San Jacinto |
Final leg Continue from the court district to the confirmed jail entrance. METRO’s published courthouse walking distances are not jail walking distances.
Call or text METRO at 713-635-4000 for help. Check current route alerts, rail interruptions and the last practical return departure. METRO’s commuter Park & Ride services operate Monday–Friday, so they are not a general weekend visit plan. All buses are accessible; METROLift requires prior eligibility approval.
Route information is summarized from METRO’s published courthouse travel guide, reviewed September 26, 2026. No live API or GTFS arrival feed is connected to this page.

Medical concerns, complaints and programs.
Use the Quality of Life concern form for issues involving medical care, conditions and access to services. Provide the person’s name/SPN, housing, date, a clear description of what is happening and a reliable family callback contact.
For a life-threatening, self-harm or urgent mental health concern, call 713-755-5300 and follow the medical prompts; stay on the line. HCSO specifically directs callers to that route after hours, on weekends and holidays. Do not wait for a routine web-form reply when the concern is immediate.
Intake includes health screening. Prepare the medication name, dose, pharmacy, prescribing clinician, allergies and what has been missed. The Sheriff says families cannot bring prescription drugs to the jail; medications are supplied through the jail pharmacy. Ask how clinical records, glasses or other authorized aids should be delivered rather than handing them to visiting staff.
Submitting information does not guarantee that staff can disclose protected medical details to you. Ask what consent is required for a further discussion. Retain the date of your report and reference number if supplied; the reviewed page does not promise a fixed response time.

Internal Affairs lists in-person intake at 5749 S. Loop, Houston, TX 77033, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; bring official photo ID for a sworn statement. If disability prevents travel, call to ask for assistance. Its page also provides an online complaint route.
The PREA form asks for incident date/time, location/pod, the people involved and an account of the incident. It provides options when the person’s identity is unknown; do not fabricate missing details. For immediate danger, call the jail’s urgent medical route as well. Ask the person to retain copies of internal grievances; an outside complaint is not proof that an internal filing requirement was satisfied.
The still-linked March 2024 handbook says to raise an ordinary problem with the officer, then floor supervisor. If unresolved, write the incident, date, place and witnesses on a form or paper; submit through a grievance box or mail. It specifies an interim response within 15 days. Appeal in writing within 5 working days of the investigator’s decision, excluding holidays. Founded but unresolved grievances receive automatic review. The handbook does not state the initial filing deadline; ask housing staff promptly.
Sexual abuse or harassment: report immediately to any staff member, the family PREA portal or 713-755-7991. The December 2024 PREA brochure treats these grievances as emergencies. Do not wait for ordinary complaint steps when safety is at risk.

HCSO identifies initiatives including the Women’s Empowerment Center and Brothers in Arms veteran support. The Harris Center describes behavioral-health assessment, peer support and reentry services involving the justice system. Availability depends on screening, housing and eligibility; the name of a program does not guarantee placement.
Ask the person to request the appropriate program or case-management contact through housing staff. State a concrete need—mental health follow-up, substance-use treatment, veteran services, education or a release plan—and ask how to apply and whether a referral is required.
The Harris Center’s Community Assistance Resource Program (CARP) helps eligible people with behavioral-health needs around release on bond and connection to services. Its listed assistance can address barriers such as transportation, parking or childcare for court. Peer Reentry planning considers the expected release date and referrals. For access and referral questions, call the Harris Center at 713-970-7000; do not assume a family call alone enrolls the person.

Court, bond, property, pickup and help afterward.
Save each case number and assigned court alongside the SPN. Harris felony matters go through district courts; Class A/B misdemeanors go through county criminal courts at law. The District Clerk’s criminal courts page provides record and service routes. Some online records require a registered account.
The Criminal Justice Center is at 1201 Franklin Street, Houston, TX 77002. Verify the assigned courtroom, hearing date and in-person or remote format with counsel or the court before traveling; a jail building address is not a hearing location.
The Harris County Public Defender’s office is at 1310 Prairie St., Suite 400, Houston, TX 77002, 713-274-6700, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Ask about the assigned lawyer or the court process for requesting appointed counsel. The office warns it never requests payment; verify any demand independently.
If the person already has counsel, give that lawyer the case numbers, current housing and release concerns. Court staff and a family guide cannot resolve case-specific defense decisions or promise release eligibility.

HCSO lists in-person cash and surety bond transactions at the Joint Processing Center, 700 N. San Jacinto St. Its official bond page links the online payment service and approved bonding-company information. Start there to reach a transaction; do not use an unsolicited payment link.
| Type | What it means for the family |
|---|---|
| Cash bond | Confirm the required amount and case before paying through the authorized county channel. Keep the receipt and ask about the applicable refund process. |
| Surety bond | A licensed bonding company posts the bond. Its fee and contract are separate from a county cash deposit; read those terms before signing. |
| Personal bond | The judge must grant it. It is a promise to appear without posting the same security as cash/surety; do not assume every case qualifies. |
Ask staff to confirm receipt against the correct case and whether another hold or case prevents release. Payment and physical release are separate steps; no dependable fixed processing time was established by the reviewed instructions. For eligibility, conditions or a disputed amount, contact the person’s lawyer or assigned court.
A property form does not authorize withdrawal from the trust account. Money uses the signed/thumbprinted Money Release form, a minimum $20 withdrawal and a remaining balance of at least $10. Ask which form and office apply before the trip.
If the person has transferred or been released, call jail information at 713-755-5300 to confirm who holds the property and what authorization remains valid. Do not assume a 24-hour deadline restarts because the housing record changed.

The Sheriff’s FAQ identifies the release exit as the Joint Processing Center, 700 N. San Jacinto St., Houston, TX 77002. Confirm the person’s release status and the meeting arrangement through 713-755-5300 before a driver leaves.
Harris lists the state Integrated Victim Services System (IVSS) at 866-268-8959 for custody-notification assistance, 24 hours a day. Ask whether the relevant record is available and enroll for the offered notifications. A notification service does not replace direct confirmation of the pickup arrangement.

The Harris Center’s 24-hour crisis and access line is 713-970-7000. Explain that the person is leaving jail, the expected date, location, medication needs and the immediate concern. Ask which program can assess the person and what referral is required.
The Center describes short-term residential reentry support and peer services for eligible people. Its Respite, Rehabilitation and Reentry Center at 6160 South Loop East, Houston, TX 77087 is not a walk-in community service. Do not send someone there without an arranged referral and acceptance; listed beds are not a vacancy guarantee.
For probation questions, Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections lists 713-755-2700. Use the assigned officer and reporting location on the person’s paperwork; the nearest office is not automatically the correct one. Court-ordered deadlines still require confirmation with the responsible office.
Before the first night home, agree on a place to sleep, a prescription/follow-up plan, food and a way to reach court or supervision. Keep the discharge documents with the person’s consent and ask the receiving service to confirm appointment time, eligibility and required identification.
