Multnomah County Inverness Jail (MCIJ)

Start with the current housing and SWIS ID. The two jails have different visit schedules, all personal mail routes through Inverness, and MCDC handles county booking and release. Published schedule and video conflicts are identified beside the practical instructions.

One MCSO adult jail system: MCDC and Inverness. Youth, state, federal, immigration and former Wapato are separate.

  1. Locate

Confirm booked name, SWIS and current housing.

  2. Prepare the visit

Check the facility schedule, visitor list and early arrival.

  3. Use the right channel

Separate trust, Securus, mail, legal access and bail.

  4. Plan the next step

Prepare care, court, transport and release support.

PART 01

Confirm custody and destination

Use SWIS and distinguish the two adult jails from separate systems.

Find the person and retain the SWIS ID

  1. Start with the Sheriff's official custody lookup. Have the booked name, alternate spellings, birth date and approximate arrest date ready. Compare identifiers rather than assuming that a matching name is the right person.
  2. Save the booked name and SWIS identification number. Ask or record the current housing facility, case numbers, charges, any holds, security amount and next hearing when available. SWIS is essential for money and mail; a court case number is different.
  3. If the site fails, nothing appears, or the record is unclear, call jail information 503-988-3689. Ask whether booking is still underway, the person was released or transferred, or another agency holds them. The official lookup returned an access error during this review; its current screen fields and refresh interval could not be confirmed.
  4. Reconfirm housing before traveling or paying. An arresting police department, an old directory entry and a scheduled court hearing do not establish today's jail location.

The administrative Fiscal Unit at 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Suite 350 handles eligible mailed checks, not family visits.

Donald E. Long is juvenile detention operated by county juvenile services. Columbia River Correctional Institution is a separate state prison. Wapato never opened as a jail and was sold in 2018; it is not a current custody destination. These adult MCSO instructions do not apply to youth, state, federal or immigration detention.

Choose the correct Sheriff contact: administration is 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Suite 350, Portland, OR 97214, phone 503-988-4300. For nonemergency law-enforcement dispatch, call 503-823-3333. Custody, visits and jail questions go to MCDC 503-988-3689 or Inverness 503-988-5060. The administration office is not a jail visiting or intake destination.

PART 02

Plan the visit

Facility schedules, visitor list, children, ID and special access.

Before you leave: visitor list and check-in

Call 503-988-3689 before a weekend trip: the current MCSO alert says staffing can interrupt social visits. Professional visits are not affected by that alert. Confirm the person's housing, disciplinary eligibility and your place on their visitor list; every in-person social visitor, including every child, must be listed.

  1. Select a session in the correct facility matrix below. Visits are first come, first served, subject to space. Plan to arrive 30–60 minutes early; the linked visitor guide requires signup at least 30 minutes before the session.
  2. Bring every visitor to the window together. Complete a separate Service Request Form for each person and present identification. Staff must see everyone before signup.
  3. Allow screening time. A visit lasts at most 30 minutes and permits at most 3 visitors including children. The published general rule allows 2 visit periods per weekend; it does not explain how the newer weekday sessions count toward an overall weekly limit.
  4. Follow staff directions and check out. A person may refuse a visit; health appointments, programs, shift changes, discipline or security can prevent it. Leaving the visiting area ends the visit.

Service-hour conflict: the current jail page separately promises in-person bail and the Justice Center deposit kiosk 24 hours daily, while this notice closes the public lobby at 5:00 PM. Memo, property and money-release instructions also extend later. Do not treat those service windows as open social-visiting hours. Call 503-988-3689 for the after-hours access procedure and holiday service you need.

The new linked notice gives an effective date of September 7, 2026, but calls it Tuesday; that date was Monday. The table preserves its actual published service times. It lists no in-person social session on Wednesday or Sunday and does not give a separate holiday social schedule. Confirm special dates at 503-988-5060 and weekend availability at 503-988-3689.

The notice says funds, bail and telephone account kiosks are accessible throughout lobby hours. The main jail page limits Inverness self-bail to 7:00 AM–3:00 PM daily; kiosk access alone does not establish that bail processing is available all evening. Its telephone-hours line prints 8:00 AM–11:00 PM followed by overlapping windows. That defective line is not used as a reliable call-access schedule; personal calls remain subject to housing walk time.

Identification, children and accompanying adults

Adult social visitors need current, valid government photo identification: state driver's license, state ID, military ID or passport. The public policy does not approve expired ID, a birth certificate alone for an adult, or a phone image as substitutes. Ask the Officer in Charge through 503-988-3689 or 503-988-5060 about an alternative before traveling.

A visitor under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or approved adult, unless an applicable minor-spouse/emancipation exception is approved. Bring documents proving the relationship: birth certificate, adoption papers, custody order or notarized parent/guardian permission. Another accompanying adult needs notarized written permission from the parent or legal guardian. If ordinary relationship documents cannot be obtained, the policy accepts a notarized statement of the child's relationship to the person in custody and the parent or legal guardian. A notarized paper does not by itself authorize an unaccompanied child.

Emancipated minors and minors married to the person in custody need Officer in Charge approval before the visit; a minor spouse must show proof of marriage. Ask how to document that prior approval. Children count toward the 3-person limit, must remain seated and supervised, and may never be left alone in the lobby or a parked vehicle.

Clothes, screening, belongings and infant supplies

  • Wear shoes; no steel-toed footwear. Contact visits require closed-toe shoes. Clothes must cover chest from armpits to navel, groin and buttocks, including while seated; clothing cannot resemble jail attire. No gang/hate, offensive or drug/alcohol symbols.
  • Clothes must comply at signup and screening. Coats, jackets and sweatshirts must clear the metal detector or be stored; underlying clothes must also comply. Metal buttons, jewelry, piercings, underwire bras and footwear can trigger the detector. Empty pockets and follow screening instructions.
  • Tell the desk if a medical condition makes the detector unsafe; ask for an alternative search. Discuss religious or medical head coverings with the officer. Ordinary hats and hoods cannot be worn in the visiting area.
  • No pens, matches, lighters, tobacco, sharp items or containers in the social visiting area. Purses, briefcases, fanny packs and diaper bags are specifically prohibited. Limited lobby lockers are available; staff do not accept responsibility for items. Do not leave belongings in the waiting area.
  • Infant bottles, loose diapers, wipes, strollers, feeding breaks and essential visitor medication exceptions are not specified publicly. Ask the housing facility for approval and storage instructions before arriving with an infant or medical supplies. Do not assume the diaper-bag prohibition means an approved exception exists.

Do not bring weapons, ammunition, alcohol or drugs onto MCSO grounds. Intoxication, disruptive conduct, unauthorized participants or refusal of a required search can end access. Outstanding restricted warrants also bar visits under the published rules.

Special needs, denied visits and professional access

For distance, disability, language access, hospital/medical restrictions, a religious need or another situation outside published rules, contact the housing facility and ask for the Officer in Charge before booking travel. No automatic long-distance extra visit, infant exception or same-day video exception was found. Explain the accommodation needed and ask how approval is recorded.

If a dress-code decision is disputed, ask for an available supervisor. For a denial or termination, the formal published review is a written request to the MCSO Facility Security Unit Manager. Ask 503-988-3689 for submission address, method and deadline; these are not specified on the visiting page. Repeated conduct violations have minimum exclusions: 2nd violation, 1 week; 3rd, 2 weeks; 4th, 3 weeks; 5th, referral to that manager. Staff may extend the period according to the violation.

Professional visitors include attorneys, investigators, legal assistants, clergy and medical or mental health professionals. Bring valid photo ID and agency/professional credentials. Use the facility's professional schedule, not family social slots. The older guide additionally identifies bar cards, ministerial credentials and court authorization for some legal support roles; coordinate requirements with staff. Attorneys should arrange confidential legal access directly. Media requests go to pio@mcso.us. Security restrictions can still apply.

Calls: setup, walk time and blocked connections

Calls are outgoing; members of the public cannot call the jail to speak directly with a person in custody. Personal and legal calls are available during the person's scheduled walk time, subject to housing restrictions. Personal calls are monitored and recorded, limited to 15 minutes each, and subject to additional unpublished attempt/minute limits. Do not use three-way calls or third-party connections.

Create or sign into Securus, add the receiving phone number and select the prepaid option offered for the facility. AdvanceConnect supports multiple receiving numbers. Check the live charge before funding; a verified MCSO-specific current per-minute price was not available in the public materials. The housing unit's Toll-Free List includes public defenders, agencies and certain private attorneys; those listed calls are free. Other collect calls charge the recipient. Ask counsel to confirm protected legal calling rather than discussing the case on recorded family calls.

If a call fails, check the exact receiving number, account balance, carrier's collect-call restrictions and any block. Nonpayment, credit/dollar limits, a detected three-way attempt, court order or police/staff/victim request can block calls. For billing or technical help use 800-844-6591. To stop incoming jail calls, press 6 during the incoming call. Report threats or harassment to the housing facility 503-988-3689 / 503-988-5060; an immediate emergency requires 911.

Book video and understand the unresolved price conflict

  1. Use Securus and select the correct MCSO facility and person. Complete registration and any identification/approval prompts, retain the confirmation email and reserve at least 24 hours ahead. MCSO's local advance-booking rule controls even though Securus advertises on-demand calling at some other facilities.
  2. For remote sessions, MCSO describes a Windows or Mac computer, high-speed internet and webcam. Test camera, microphone, permissions and connection before the appointment; use headphones, lighting and a quiet place. Confirm mobile compatibility in the selected product instead of assuming every service works on every device.
  3. For Inverness lobby kiosks, arrive at least 15 minutes early, check in with the Facility Security Officer and show government photo ID. The in-person dress and minor rules apply; children need immediate supervision. Maximum 3 participants, no electronics. The current page says the person’s in-person visitor list is not required for video and publishes no limit on consecutive kiosk bookings.

Published conflict: MCSO's current page describes the same video service as both 30 minutes and 20 minutes. Its June 2023 guide says onsite is free and remote costs $5 on the cover, but an interior section describes $5 nonrefundable visits and a limited Inverness housing rollout. The current page now lists both jails, so that old housing limitation should not be used to exclude all other units. Treat $5 as an older published amount, not a verified current quote. Check the facility-specific duration, price and cancellation terms on Securus’s booking screen before payment.

Missed sessions, transaction problems and unused balances

For a failed or canceled video visit, save date/time, facility, confirmation number, receipt, error message and when the connection ended. Check email for schedule changes: MCSO says jail staff cannot verify video appointments over the telephone. Ask Securus 800-844-6591 or video support 877-578-3658 to identify the failure and apply the applicable credit/refund rule. A blanket current MCSO refund promise or cancellation deadline was not verified. Cancel future sessions before closing a Securus account; the provider says deleting an account can void scheduled sessions without refund.

For unused AdvanceConnect funds, verify the account address and ask Securus about closing/refunding that account. Its current instructions return eligible card-funded balances to the last card in 2–3 business days, with statement posting possibly taking a billing cycle; check refunds for cash-transfer/mail funding can take 2–3 weeks. Recent calls are deducted first. Securus Debit funds belong to the detained person, not the family depositor. Release or transfer does not automatically move family prepaid funds into jail trust.

For a TouchPay missing or duplicate deposit, retain receipt, SWIS, facility 297204, amount and payment method; contact 866-204-1603. The provider describes typical posting in 1–24 hours, depending on facility, not an immediate-credit guarantee. It cannot reverse a completed deposit. For the wrong recipient, contact the jail promptly about possible correction; do not simply pay a second time while the first transaction is unresolved.

All incoming personal mail is opened and inspected. Use ballpoint pen, pencil or colored pencil. Pictures, postcards and cards cannot exceed 8.5 × 11 inches. Do not send Polaroid-type photos, layered/glued cards, stickers, tape, laminated/painted/waxed material, crayon, padded/bubble envelopes, origami, glitter, perfume, lipstick or unidentified stains. No nude/sexually explicit images, threatening/security-risk content, weapons/escape instructions or prohibited coded/third-party messages. Court no-contact orders still apply.

Do not enclose cash, stamps, gift cards, bus passes, phone cards, blank paper/cards or blank/pre-addressed/pre-stamped envelopes. Newspaper and magazine clippings are allowed; book clippings are not. Plastic, wood, stone, metal, drugs and other contraband are prohibited. A current numeric photo count was not found; ask the mailroom through the housing facility before sending a large set.

Personal letters cannot be dropped at the desk. The separate Inmate Memo Form may be completed at a jail and handed to the Facility Security Officer for internal delivery; published acceptance is 7:30 AM–10:30 PM daily except holidays. Confirm access first because the MCDC lobby notice closes earlier.

Its limits vary by facility and payment method; ask 866-204-1603 before attempting a large payment. No publicly verified MCSO daily deposit cap was found.

Do not mail cash or money orders; MCSO returns prohibited payment mail. Government/payroll checks belong at Fiscal Unit, not inside a personal letter to Inverness. The mail-content rule excludes nongovernment negotiable instruments, while the separate funds rule accepts payroll checks through Fiscal Unit: keep those channels separate. The older PDF lists a courthouse kiosk, but the current jail page only confirms the 2 jail locations; do not rely on the older courthouse location.

Commissary and help when there is no money

The trust account buys commissary hygiene, writing supplies and snacks and can pay authorized fees or bail. Ask the person to request needed basics through housing staff or a corrections counselor. Outside private packages and cash in letters do not solve the problem.

Historical detail, not a verified current eligibility rule: the county's independent volunteer inspection report for 2023 described indigent status after 7 days without funds after entry into housing, excluding booking/classification time; people with a jail job were excluded even at $5 weekly earnings. It recorded this supply schedule:

2023 inspection’s recorded indigent supplies
ItemRecorded quantity / interval
Envelopes2 every 7 days
Toothpaste / toothbrush1 every 7 days / 1 every 14 days
Shampoo / Tums1 every 10 days / 1 every 7 days
Deodorant / notepad / flex pen1 each every 30 days
Comb / hair pick1 each per visit, as the report describes

The public jail pages do not confirm whether that threshold or kit changed. Ask 503-988-3689 / 503-988-5060 for the current indigent request process, immediate hygiene access while waiting, postage/legal correspondence, replacements and any later account deduction. Explain a disability or medical need directly to staff. The old inspection's Tums entry is not a recommendation to take medicine.

Authorize money and property pickup before arrival

Money release to another person begins with the detained person's signed form naming the recipient correctly. Only 2 releases in a 30-day period, at most $500 each, are published. Staff will not accept a family walk-in request or prompt the detained person to sign. The recipient needs government ID and receives a check. Published processing windows are Monday–Friday 10:00 AM–2:30 PM and 3:00–10:30 PM; Saturday–Sunday 7:30 AM–2:30 PM and 3:00–10:30 PM. Ask 503-988-3689 which desk holds the check and how to enter outside lobby hours.

Stored property release is all property, not selected items. The person must finish the authorization before the collector arrives. Pickup is at the MCDC/Justice Center Facility Security Officer desk, 1120 SW Third Avenue, with government photo ID. The linked guide publishes Monday–Friday 10:00 AM–2:30 PM and 3:00–10:30 PM; Saturday–Sunday 7:30 AM–2:30 PM and 3:00–10:30 PM. Confirm ready status and after-hours access before travel; the separate lobby notice closes at 5:00 PM.

Prescription eyeglasses are the only property routinely accepted for someone in custody. They may be delivered to either jail regardless of housing. Bring government ID and a valid mailing address; counselors deliver approved glasses and mail back unapproved ones. Police evidence/seized-property questions are a different service: MCSO Property Control 503-988-0373.

Clothing exchange, court clothes and release balance

The detained person must complete a clothing-exchange form before an authorized person brings clothes. The linked guide permits exchange of 1 shirt and 1 pair of pants for the corresponding stored clothing. Take approved exchange clothes to the MCDC Facility Security Officer desk, 1120 SW Third Avenue. Published drop-off: Monday–Friday 10:00 AM–10:30 PM; Saturday–Sunday 7:30 AM–2:00 PM and 3:00–10:30 PM. These hours differ from property pickup and from general lobby access; confirm with 503-988-3689. Staff return the stored clothes to the named person making the exchange.

For court attire, arrange delivery to the defense attorney at Multnomah County Courthouse, 1200 SW First Avenue, ahead of the court date; MCDC Officer in Charge approval is required. Do not send a clothing package through the ordinary mail. If stored clothing is unsuitable for release, for example after a seasonal change, the person must tell release staff; the guide says staff provide suitable additional or replacement clothing.

MCSO says the person receives the remaining trust balance at release. A current public description of whether the final balance comes as cash, check or card, and any cash-out fee, was not found. Ask release staff before departure and keep the balance/receipt. Family phone/video refunds remain with the communication provider.

These are public paid garages, not jail lots. City rates reviewed 2026-09-28 take precedence over older news releases. Day rates start at 5:00 AM. Take an entry ticket, pay at the ground-floor elevator-lobby station before returning to the car, and scan the paid ticket at exit. Help buttons are available; SmartPark customer service/security is 503-823-5353 24 hours. Confirm displayed rates and vehicle clearance. From 1st & Jefferson, continue toward Third Avenue for MCDC; from 4th & Yamhill, continue south toward Madison and Third Avenue. Use public sidewalks and crossings; no reserved jail space is promised.

For Inverness, use 11540 NE Inverness Drive and follow visitor signage to the public lobby. The reviewed MCSO materials refer to a parking lot but do not identify visitor-stall boundaries, overnight access, price, accessible drop-off or an overflow lot. Ask 503-988-5060 for the permitted lot and accessible entrance before arrival. Do not park in staff/secure areas or use neighboring business parking without permission. Neither a bus stop nor a nearby business is the jail entrance.

A separate approach to 11540 NE Inverness Drive is required; accessible sidewalk continuity, crossing choice and entrance walk were not verified.

TriMet's current station directory lists Orange at City Hall and Yellow at SW 6th & Madison. Older material also names Green there; use the current station directory and trip results rather than assuming the older routing. Route 87 has weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules and is identified as frequent service most of the day. The operator's map is dated August 2026. Confirm the return departure for a late Inverness visit; frequent daytime service does not guarantee a late-night connection.

Plan using the actual jail address, travel date, required early arrival and both directions. Ask TriMet 503-238-7433 about the safest accessible stop and walking route for Inverness, and ask jail staff 503-988-5060 where that route reaches the public entrance. A stop on the same road is not confirmation of a usable sidewalk or pedestrian gate. Consider arranging a ride for the final segment if that route is unsuitable.

For disability-related inability to use regular transit, TriMet LIFT requires eligibility. Call 503-962-8000, option 4 for eligibility, option 1 for reservations; reservations must be made by 5:00 PM the day before. Published reservation hours are weekdays 9:00 AM–5:00 PM and weekends 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. Confirm exact jail pickup/drop-off with both LIFT and staff.

PART 06

Care, courts and release

Communicate care needs, raise concerns, reach court and prepare reentry.

Medical and mental health information: get it to the right staff

Multnomah County Corrections Health provides medical, behavioral health, dental, vision and medication services in both adult jails. Its May 2026 written answers say everyone receives a medical intake after booking and that a history/physical examination is due within 14 days. That routine interval is not a reason to wait with urgent symptoms.

  1. For an urgent concern in custody, call the housing facility 503-988-3689 / 503-988-5060 immediately, identify the person by booked name and SWIS, and ask staff to notify the on-duty supervisor and Corrections Health. State the immediate danger plainly: threats of self-harm, serious withdrawal concerns, missed essential medication, confusion or a serious new symptom. A person inside should alert a deputy or health staff immediately.
  2. For ongoing care, the person can submit a Medical Request Form (MRF) to clinic staff asking for services or review of current medications, as the May 2026 county document explains. Ask for help completing it if language, literacy or disability makes that difficult.
  3. Family information should include diagnosis/history, medication name and prescribed dose, last known dose, allergies, treating clinician/pharmacy and callback number. Ask staff for the approved secure destination before sending records. Record whom you contacted and when; repeat/escalate an unresolved urgent concern rather than relying only on voicemail or ordinary mail.

No dedicated current family medical/mental health line or secure family submission form was found in the jail pages, Health pages, records guidance or current budget answers. The Health recruitment email is for jobs, not clinical alerts. Community emergency 911 and the crisis contacts below serve people outside custody; they do not replace notifying the jail about someone detained.

Medication, glasses, disability requests and privacy

Do not mail medication or deliver pills, medical devices or other supplies without explicit clinical authorization. The published routine-property exception is prescription eyeglasses: either jail accepts a drop-off with the deliverer's government ID and return mailing address, subject to counselor approval. A current family medication-delivery procedure, medical copay schedule and exact discharge supply were not published; ask Corrections Health through the jail for this person's plan.

The May 2026 county response describes an ADA Coordinator at each facility. A detained person submits a service request called a KITE for accommodation. MCSO handles nonmedical requests; Corrections Health participates when medical assessment is needed, including durable equipment or accessible housing. State the practical need, such as a mobility aid, safe lower fixture, hearing/vision access or help reading forms, rather than assuming a specific placement will be approved.

Giving staff useful health history does not automatically authorize them to disclose private medical information back to family. Ask what consent/release-of-information form the patient can sign, whom it names and how it is submitted. For copies of jail medical or mental health records, the county directs requests to medical.records.request@multco.us. Ask the records office for identification/authorization requirements; this records channel is not an urgent clinical hotline.

Service grievances, staff complaints and independent help

For a housing, meal, hygiene, access or care problem, ask the unit for the current grievance form and instructions and identify the requested remedy. Keep dates, copies, response and appeal instructions. A Service Request/KITE can ask for assistance, but do not assume it substitutes for a formal grievance or appeal. The reviewed public materials do not give current ordinary-grievance filing, response or appeal deadlines. Ask the housing supervisor for the applicable rule promptly; do not import deadlines from another jail or the separate juvenile system.

For alleged MCSO employee misconduct, contact Internal Affairs 503-988-4557, iau@mcso.us, or mail 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Suite 350, Portland, OR 97214. The official complaint page provides online and printable forms; complaints can also be given to an MCSO member. MCSO permits anonymous complaints, although a contact helps follow-up. Supply who, what, where, when, witnesses and supporting copies.

The independent County Ombudsperson helps resolve county-service issues after you first try the responsible department: 503-988-1234, ombudsperson@multco.us. The number is published as available 24/7; that does not promise immediate emergency response. Send copies electronically, not original documents. For suspected government fraud, waste, broad abuse of position or retaliation for a hotline report, the Good Government Hotline accepts calls/texts at 971-490-2980 24/7. These outside reports do not automatically satisfy the person's internal appeal deadline.

Report sexual abuse, harassment or retaliation

A person in custody may tell any trusted deputy, nurse, chaplain, counselor, volunteer or mental health consultant about sexual abuse, harassment, fear of retaliation or staff neglect contributing to an incident. MCSO also identifies a grievance or Service Request Form (Kyte) to the Jail Detective. Family and friends can report on the person's behalf at 503-227-2010.

For an outside reporting route, write: Clackamas County Jail, Attention: PREA Coordinator, 2206 Kaen Road, Oregon City, OR 97045. This receiving agency forwards the report to MCSO for investigation; anonymity may be requested. It is not a promise that the allegation stays outside MCSO. Include enough information to identify the person and incident, any ongoing danger and safe contact method. Request immediate protection/health assessment through jail staff if danger is current; do not wait for mailed correspondence.

The currently linked PREA audits date to 2017. Their old procedural details are not presented as a newly verified 2026 ordinary-grievance timetable. Use the current reporting contacts above and ask for current PREA grievance/appeal instructions without delaying an abuse report.

Use the case number or first/last name and birth date for calendar questions. Confirm date, courtroom, building and whether attendance is in person or remote; a general recurring schedule is not a personal hearing notice. Arrive 30–45 minutes early for Justice Center court, pass security and go to the third-floor Court Check-In window. Stairs and elevators are available. An observer can give the defendant's name to the clerk to find the courtroom. Court check-in is separate from jail visiting.

For accessibility, interpreters or a remote appearance, contact the clerk before the hearing and follow the court's arrangement; family video is not court attendance. Oregon Relay is 711. Ask counsel about a warrant or conflicting notice rather than assuming a missing online record cancels an obligation.

Confirm the person's actual setting at 971-274-0750; holiday calendars and assignments can differ. The court says a defense attorney is assigned to the arraignment courtroom. Tell counsel if the booked name/birth date is wrong and if the person lives or works outside Oregon. Before leaving, retain the next court date, conditions and assigned attorney's contact.

If charged with a crime and unable to afford counsel, ask for a court-appointed attorney and complete an Affidavit of Eligibility. A clerk reviews financial circumstances, including basic family needs; the judge may require an application fee or contribution toward counsel based on income/expenses. No fixed fee is published on that page. People outside custody may apply at Justice Center third-floor Court Check-In, Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:00 PM; this application window is narrower than general service hours. For someone detained, ask their court/assigned lawyer how the application is being handled. Family cannot select a public defender by funding a phone account.

Public case lookup and watching a hearing

The Oregon court record/calendar page links free basic case information and court dates. The local calendar supports case number, defendant/party, attorney, judicial officer or date range. Match identifiers and keep the next event details. Some categories are excluded from public online access; a missing record is not proof that no case exists. At review, the statewide page carried unavailable notices for record and calendar searches. Use the criminal clerk 971-274-0545, option 5, when the live system or a date is unclear.

The Multnomah live-stream page separates today's and future hearings. Streams begin approximately 5 minutes before the scheduled time. The court lists Edge, Chrome or Safari support and says an uncalled public viewer may only observe; a person required to appear must use the court's participation instructions and legal name. Viewing a stream does not satisfy an appearance requirement. Ask the clerk when a listed proceeding has no working stream.

Post security release and understand who gets a refund

  1. Call 503-988-3689 for current eligibility, holds, exact amount and instructions. The Multnomah court says the judge sets security and ordinarily requires a 10% deposit of the total ordered amount; do not calculate a payment without confirming the person's actual case and other holds.
  2. For in-person posting, MCSO lists Justice Center lobby, 1120 SW Third Avenue, 24 hours daily including holidays. The court lists cash or credit card only and warns bank/card fees may be nonrefundable. Confirm entry outside ordinary lobby hours.
  3. For self-bail, MCSO lists its linked TouchPay portal, facility 297204, and Inverness lobby daily 7:00 AM–3:00 PM. Ask whether the intended payment is a deposit to the person's trust for self-bail or a security deposit in your own name before sending funds.
  4. Retain the receipt, payer name/address, case number and conditions. A posted amount does not promise immediate physical release or remove another hold.

The court says it automatically retains 15% of the security deposit, at least $5 and at most $750. Unless otherwise ordered, money may also pay obligations on that case and other Oregon obligations, including child-support arrears. Failure to appear can cause forfeiture and a judgment for the full ordered security: the court's example is $10,000 ordered, $1,000 deposited, and possible liability for the full $10,000.

Refunds after closure/exoneration go to the person who posted security at the address on the receipt; address changes must be requested in writing by that payer. If family put money into jail trust and the person self-bails, the refund goes to the detained person, not the family depositor. Ask accounting 971-274-0585 Monday–Friday 1:30–4:00 PM about a refund. MCSO's scam warning says staff never call demanding payment, sell discounted/GPS releases or accept private-party transfers to obtain release; verify an unsolicited demand through 503-988-3689.

Release, pickup and confidential notifications

MCSO identifies MCDC as the county booking and release location. Confirm the actual release destination with 503-988-3689; do not wait at Inverness merely because that is where the person was housed. Ask whether release is authorized and processing or whether another hold/transfer applies. No reliable standard processing time, named pickup door, late-night indoor waiting arrangement or guaranteed ride was published. Confirm these directly, especially with mobility needs or no working phone.

  1. Agree on a reachable phone number, meeting place and backup plan; keep transport flexible until staff confirms release.
  2. Ask staff about stored property, remaining funds and missing items before leaving; keep receipts. Request suitable clothing if needed.
  3. Obtain court date, release conditions and any supervision reporting instructions. A release from jail does not finish the case.
  4. For treatment needs, ask for the medication list, actual supply/prescription, pharmacy, follow-up appointment and transition support. Confirm transport and access to a place to stay.

For custody notifications use Oregon VISOR, which replaced VINELink for this purpose. Search by name or offender number, choose the person and register a phone/email and delivery method. An optional account manages preferences; anonymous registration is also available. MCSO says registration is confidential and supports more than one number/email, with notices for release, transfer, escape or death. Help: 888-749-8080 or visor@doc.oregon.gov. Notifications support planning; confirm a pickup directly with the jail.

Programs and clinical transition planning

Ask the housing counselor for current eligibility and a referral rather than assuming a program is available in every unit. MCSO's Pathways to Employment program covers applications, resumes, interviews and job/life skills. Its January 2026 update confirms IN2WORK food-safety training and certification. The June 2026 education update describes accredited high-school education for ages 18–22, GED preparation for ages 18–24 at Inverness, restarted testing, literacy and college-success work. These published age ranges describe those programs, not a guarantee of placement or a general exclusion from all education.

For complex medical, mental health or substance-use needs, request Corrections Health Transition Services. In May 2026 the county described planners working with medical, mental health, disciplinary and close-custody units to preserve community case-management and housing connections, obtain releases of information, assist referrals and arrange medication pickup and warm handoffs when appropriate. Counselors also refer for basic clothing/hygiene, medication coordination and Oregon Health Plan eligibility screening. The county explicitly says only a subset of people receives Transition Services; it is not automatic for every release.

Before discharge, identify the person’s actual clinician, counselor or transition planner and ask who will contact the community provider, which documents/consents are needed, where medication will be obtained and whether transportation is arranged. State any existing treatment, housing or supervision contact so services are not lost during custody.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
