Use the active Opportunity Drive jail
Whitley County Jail is the active adult Sheriff jail at 711 N Opportunity Dr, Columbia City, IN 46725. Call the jail at 260-244-7119 for custody and jail operations; use the Sheriff main number, 260-244-6410, for Sheriff business.

Do not use the former Market Street jails
The Sheriff announced the move to 711 N Opportunity Drive in February 2025. The former operational jail at 101 W Market Street and the historic 1875 jail at 116 E Market Street are not current custody, visit or mail destinations. Some county staff records and commercial directories remain stale.

Do not present a bed count as current population
The Sheriff does not publish an operating capacity or current population. The project architect says 248 beds on one page, while another configuration totals 260; neither states current occupancy, staffed beds or placement for one person.

Keep youth and other custody systems separate
This guide is for the adult county jail. A jail-officer job description mentions documenting juvenile intake holdings, but that does not prove routine youth housing or transfer adult rules to a juvenile placement. State, federal, immigration and municipal custody also require their own confirmation.

Start with the county-linked JailTracker roster
Open the county Inmates entry and follow its roster link, or select Whitley County in JailTracker. Search the exact legal name. Before paying, mailing or traveling, call 260-244-7119 because the county does not publish the roster refresh interval.

Save the transaction identifiers you will need
Retain the displayed booked name, booking or resident number, booking date, charges, bond information, court and housing/status field when shown. Verify the resident number in the destination portal before funding an account or addressing mail.

Troubleshoot a missing result across bounded systems
Retry name variants and allow for intake delay; check MyCase for filed activity and SAVIN for notifications. A missing record can mean release, hospital care, youth placement or transfer. Use IDOC, BOP and ICE only for those separate systems, then call 260-244-7119.

Send each question to the office that controls it
Use 260-244-7119 for custody, housing, mail, health concern, property and release questions. The Sheriff page lists administration Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Eastern and says jail/dispatch is available 24 hours; administrative hours are not visit or release hours.

Visits and video
Approval, scheduling, minors, exceptions and failures
Use HomeWAV for the verified video-visit workflow
The current county page says inmate visitation is managed by HomeWAV and directs users there to schedule video. Select the exact Whitley County facility and resident. Do not substitute GettingOut schedules or accounts found on commercial pages.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Visitation · HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ
Create the account with matching identity
Use the HomeWAV website or mobile app. Enter accurate personal information, verify by text, call or email, choose the facility and resident, upload a clear head-and-shoulders profile photo without filters, and upload a readable government ID. HomeWAV lists a driver license, state ID or passport.
Sources: HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · HomeWAV — Quick Start
Let the jail decide approval and correct account errors
HomeWAV says the correctional facility, not HomeWAV, approves accounts; review commonly takes 24 to 48 hours but is not guaranteed. If denied, correct spelling, address and photos, then ask the jail about a facility denial. HomeWAV cannot override it.
Sources: HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · Whitley County — Jail division
Resolve the scheduling conflict in the live account
Whitley County says to schedule a video visit, but HomeWAV’s general FAQ says scheduled visits reserve an onsite station while remote video normally begins when the resident sees an approved visitor online. Follow the Whitley facility screen; if no slot appears, call 260-244-7119 before traveling or paying.

Confirm local days, cutoff, duration and frequency
The county page is labeled as of 2023-12-01 and publishes no current days, hours, check-in cutoff, duration, frequency, fee, cancellation window or holiday rule. Read the live Whitley policy in HomeWAV and confirm institutional questions at 260-244-7119.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Visitation · HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · Whitley County — Jail division
Do not assume the rule for minors
Neither current local page publishes a minimum age, guardian relationship, birth certificate, proof of custody, separate account or supervision rule for minors. Ask 260-244-7119 before adding a child; do not upload a child’s identity document until the approved workflow requests it.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Visitation · HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · Whitley County — Jail division
Confirm onsite access, dress and belongings
The county does not say whether the new jail offers public onsite video booths or in-person visits, nor does it publish clothing, lockers, phones, infant supplies, parking check-in or alternate-ID rules. A provider’s generic onsite feature does not prove local availability.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Visitation · HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · Whitley County — Jail division
Use a special account for counsel, legal representatives or clergy
HomeWAV tells attorneys, legal representatives, clergy and spiritual counselors to create a special account, which may require photo ID and a bar card and supports no-recording permissions. Facility approval still controls. The jail publishes no family long-distance, emergency or disability exception.
Sources: HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · Whitley County — Public Defender staff record · Whitley County — Jail division
Prepare the device before becoming available
HomeWAV recommends Chrome or Firefox on a computer or its iOS or Android app. Charge the device, use a strong private connection, allow camera and microphone access, test speaker and lighting, close bandwidth-heavy apps, and keep the account name and ID consistent.

Separate technical failure from jail access
Save date, time, resident, facility, screenshots, error text and receipt. Contact HomeWAV at 844-394-6639 or support@homewav.com for login, payment or connection trouble; call 260-244-7119 for lockdown, housing, discipline or approval. Do not buy again until the failure owner is identified.

Choose HomeWAV communication funds deliberately
HomeWAV says Talk-to-Me funds are limited to communication between the funder and one resident, while the Inmate General Fund lets the resident contact allowed users and is not commissary. Funds are non-transferable between residents. Confirm which option the Whitley account displays before payment.
Sources: HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · HomeWAV — Quick Start
Use the refund rule for the account actually funded
HomeWAV permits Talk-to-Me refund requests in the account and describes automatic triggers after release, deletion or inactivity. Inmate General Fund refunds are different and generally occur after release or transfer to recent funding cards. Keep receipts and allow the provider’s stated processing time.
Sources: HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · HomeWAV — Refund policy
Phone and mail
Unpublished phone route, mail address, legal mail and publications
Verify the telephone provider before funding
Whitley County verifies HomeWAV for video visitation but does not identify the current inmate telephone provider, account types, rates or funding route. Do not infer that HomeWAV also supplies local voice calls and do not use contradictory commercial listings. Ask 260-244-7119 for the provider name and exact link.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Visitation · Whitley County — Jail division · HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ
Treat calls as resident-initiated until confirmed
The public pages do not publish inbound calling, voicemail, approved-number, blocking, transfer-balance, restriction or refund procedures. If a call fails, record the originating number, time and message, check carrier spam/collect-call blocks, then use the provider named by the jail. Call the jail only for custody or institutional restriction.
Sources: Whitley County — Jail division · HomeWAV — Friends and family support
Do not mail to the former jail address
The official legacy mail material and stale directories can lead to 101 W Market Street, but the active jail moved to 711 N Opportunity Drive. The county does not publish a confirmed current personal-mail address or format. Call 260-244-7119 and repeat the address back before mailing.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Mail Policy · Whitley County Sheriff — We have moved · Whitley County — Jail division
Use the legacy policy only as a confirmation checklist
The old county policy allowed photos no larger than 4 by 6 inches, barred photocopied photos, and described lined white paper plus content restrictions. Because applicability after the 2025 move is unconfirmed, ask the jail about paper, ink, envelope, page, photo and return-address rules before sending.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Mail Policy · Whitley County Sheriff — We have moved · Whitley County — Jail division
Keep privileged legal mail separate
A jail-officer description says staff examine and log incoming and outgoing mail, but public materials do not state the current confidential legal-mail address, required attorney markings, opening procedure or electronic legal channel. Counsel should confirm the exact privileged route with 260-244-7119 before sending.
Sources: Whitley County — Jail/Confinement Officer position description · Whitley County — Jail division · Whitley County — Public Defender staff record
Confirm books, photos and packages item by item
Current official pages do not establish publisher-only books, hardcover limits, magazine or newspaper rules, photo quantity, package vendors, original-item return or rejection notice. Do not ship a book, subscription, photo batch or care package until the jail confirms the destination and rule.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Mail Policy · Whitley County — Inmate Commissary · Whitley County — Jail division
Money, health and rights
Commissary, trust, medical, grievance, ADA and PREA
The Jail Matron controls the commissary program
The county says the Jail Matron, under Sheriff supervision, is responsible for commissary, which covers supplies and extras sold to residents. That establishes program ownership but not a deposit vendor, care-package store, prices, spending limit or order day.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Commissary
Confirm trust deposits before surrendering money
The county does not publish current online, telephone, lobby-kiosk or mailed-money methods, accepted cards or cash, fees, resident identifiers, payment limits, chargeback consequences or posting time. Call 260-244-7119, get the official vendor or kiosk instruction, and save the receipt. HomeWAV funds are communication funds, not commissary.
Sources: Whitley County — Inmate Commissary · HomeWAV — Friends and family FAQ · Whitley County — Jail division
Ask about indigent supplies and remaining balances
The public pages do not define indigent hygiene, stationery or postage eligibility, debt priority, commissary suspension, release balance, check or card method, or transfer handling. The medical ordinance allows outstanding medical copayments to be deducted before commissary or money released for bonding, so ask for an itemized account question.
Sources: Whitley County Code of Ordinances — inmate health care payments · Whitley County — Inmate Commissary · Whitley County — Jail division
Inability to pay must not block treatment
The county code says a person in the jail will never be refused medical treatment because of inability to pay. It lists exceptions to copayment for emergency care, injury received at the jail and care requested by the Sheriff. The public code does not identify today’s contractor or clinical request form.
Sources: Whitley County Code of Ordinances — inmate health care payments · Whitley County — Jail/Confinement Officer position description
Route urgent health information through the jail
For an urgent resident concern, call 260-244-7119 with full booked name, date of birth if known, symptom or risk, medication name and dose, prescriber or pharmacy, and callback number. Ask staff how to deliver information to clinical personnel. Public sources do not publish medication drop-off, verification, glasses, dental, mental-health or family-release rules.
Sources: Whitley County — Jail division · Whitley County — Jail/Confinement Officer position description · Whitley County Code of Ordinances — inmate health care payments
Keep community treatment separate from jail care
Bowen Health at 1259 E State Road 205 offers community care and a 24-hour crisis line at 800-342-5653; 988 is also a crisis route. It is not identified as the jail contractor and cannot disclose or direct custody care. Use the jail for an incarcerated person and community providers for post-release or family support.
Sources: Bowen Health — locations and crisis line · Whitley County — Jail division
Ask for the resident grievance chain and deadlines
The officer job description says officers periodically respond to grievances through an established chain of command, but no public form, submission route, response time, appeal or emergency grievance process is published. The resident should request the current handbook; family may ask the Jail Commander at 260-244-7119 about the process without expecting case details.
Sources: Whitley County — Jail/Confinement Officer position description · Whitley County — Jail division
Separate county ADA complaints from resident requests
The county ADA route accepts disability discrimination complaints and lists an ADA coordinator, but it does not replace the jail’s immediate accommodation request or medical process. Ask 260-244-7119 how a resident requests communication, mobility, medication, hearing, vision or cognitive accommodation; use the county grievance route for county-service discrimination.
Sources: Whitley County ADA Grievance Procedure · Whitley County — Jail division
Do not reuse the Work Release PREA hotline for the jail
Whitley County publishes a zero-tolerance policy and hotline for the separate Adult Residential Work Release program. No source says that hotline receives allegations from Whitley County Jail. For immediate danger call 911; otherwise ask 260-244-7119 for the jail’s confidential internal and outside PREA reporting options and retaliation protections.

Court, counsel and release
Cases, courts, counsel, bond, property and discharge
Use MyCase for the filed case, not for custody
Search MyCase by exact name or case number and save the court, cause number, next event and filed bond order. A court record does not prove current jail location, a payment posted, transport to court or a release time; verify custody at 260-244-7119.
Sources: Indiana MyCase · Whitley County — Jail division
Call the responsible court or Clerk
Whitley Circuit Court is at 101 W Van Buren Street, 260-248-3115; Superior Court is 260-248-3119; Clerk of Courts is 260-248-3102. These courthouse offices control filings and records, not jail visiting, housing, property or release pickup.
Sources: Whitley County Circuit Court · Whitley County Superior Court staff directory · Whitley County Clerk of Courts
Use the court-controlled appointed-counsel path
The county FAQ says the court sets a hearing to determine indigency for appointed counsel. The listed Public Defender contact is 260-248-8900. Family should keep the cause number and attorney name, but should not ask jail staff for legal advice or assume a public defender is appointed before a court order.
Sources: Whitley County — appointed-counsel FAQ · Whitley County — Public Defender staff record · Indiana MyCase
Confirm the written bond order and payment channel
Read the filed bond order in MyCase, then call the Clerk or court for order questions and 260-244-7119 for the current jail posting location, accepted payment, payer ID, fee and release prerequisites. The county’s bail-agent document is a directory only; it does not set amount, eligibility or release time.
Sources: Indiana MyCase · Whitley County Clerk of Courts · Whitley County — Bail Bond Agents · Whitley County — Jail division
Do not arrive for property without authorization
The jail publishes no resident property-release form, authorization rule, pickup days, approved recipient ID or disposal deadline. Ask 260-244-7119 whether the resident must sign a release, exactly what the recipient brings, the pickup entrance and whether medications, keys, wallet or clothing are handled differently.
Sources: Whitley County — Jail division · Whitley County — Jail/Confinement Officer position description
Plan a flexible release pickup
No public source gives a release window, exit door, clothing or transportation handoff. Court action, holds, identity checks, property reconciliation and processing can delay discharge. Confirm same day at 260-244-7119, keep the driver reachable, avoid blocking secure drives and do not promise the resident an exact time.

Arrival and local planning
Destination, parking, transit, lodging and food
Use 711 N Opportunity Drive as the physical destination
Set navigation to Whitley County Jail, 711 N Opportunity Dr, Columbia City, IN 46725, and verify the building sign before entering. Do not navigate to the courthouse, 101 W Market Street, 116 E Market Street, Community Corrections or Work Release for an adult-jail task.
Sources: Whitley County — Whitley County Jail location · Whitley County Sheriff — We have moved · Whitley County Community Corrections · Whitley County Adult Residential Work Release
Confirm the public entrance and parking boundary
The county provides directions but does not name a visitor lot, accessible spaces, after-hours waiting area, public entrance, security screening or release pickup lane. Do not use the adjacent Transit property at 710 Opportunity Drive or the hotel lot as assumed jail parking. Call 260-244-7119 before an onsite task.
Sources: Whitley County — Whitley County Jail location · Whitley County Transit · Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbia City · Whitley County — Jail division
Reserve Whitley County Transit as door-to-door service
Whitley County Transit serves county residents of all ages by door-to-door demand response. Call 260-248-8944 extension 1 or 800-290-1697 between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; the operator asks for 48 hours for in-county trips and cannot guarantee same-day service. Request 711 N Opportunity Drive and confirm the exact safe loading point.

Use the seven-date service check, not a fixed-stop promise
For 2026-10-01 through 2026-10-07, published weekday service applies Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; no Saturday or Sunday service is published. This is not a reservation, fixed jail stop, guaranteed seat, final walk, late-night release ride or discharge pickup.

Check nearby lodging directly
Holiday Inn Express & Suites is at 606 Opportunity Drive, 260-248-2131, with published 3:00 p.m. check-in and 11:00 a.m. checkout. Super 8 is at 235 Frontage Road. Neither hotel is jail parking or a release waiting area; confirm same-day rate, availability, accessibility and age rules.

Use current direct restaurant listings
Culver’s is at 1001 W Connexion Way, 260-212-1086, and publishes daily service windows; Subway lists current Columbia City stores and hours. Hours can change, so check the direct listing the same day. These businesses have no authority over jail waiting, release or parking.

Programs and next steps
JCAP, re-entry, separate supervision and community help
Treat JCAP as a jail program, not guaranteed admission
The new facility includes purpose-designed male and female Jail Chemical Addiction Program space. Public sources do not publish current enrollment, eligibility, wait list, curriculum, completion credit or family referral. A resident should ask classification or program staff; family may ask 260-244-7119 how program questions are routed.
Sources: Elevatus — grand opening of Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center · Elevatus — Whitley County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center portfolio · Whitley County — Jail division
Use the separate county re-entry contact
Whitley County Re-Entry Services describes job training, education, housing assistance, mental-health and substance-use connections. Re-entry Coordinator Alyssa Hodges is listed at 351 W Plaza Dr, 260-248-3113. This service can support planning but does not control custody, release time or jail property.
Sources: Whitley County Re-Entry Services · Whitley County — Re-entry Coordinator
Keep Work Release, Community Corrections and Pretrial separate
Adult Residential Work Release at 351 W Plaza Drive is a separate sentencing alternative with screening and its own rules. Community Corrections and Pretrial Services supervise separate court-ordered programs. A transfer or court order can connect systems, but adult-jail visiting, mail, money and PREA rules do not automatically follow.
Sources: Whitley County Adult Residential Work Release · Whitley County Community Corrections · Whitley County Pretrial Services · Whitley County — Jail/Confinement Officer position description
Use community contacts without confusing custody authority
Indiana 211 connects people to food, housing, utilities and services at 211 or 866-211-9966; text a ZIP code to 898-211. Bowen Health offers community mental-health and recovery support at 800-342-5653. Confirm resource eligibility and hours; neither service can change a jail decision.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Whitley County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
