PART 01

Start here

Confirm the adult Sheriff jail, locate the person and route urgent concerns.

Identity and active facility

The adult Sheriff jail is Montgomery County Jail at 600 Memorial Drive, Crawfordsville, IN 47933. Call 765-362-3740. The Sheriff says the current building opened in June 2006 and has 224 beds. The historic Rotary Jail is a museum, not the active jail.

Find and confirm a person

Start with the Sheriff’s Find an Inmate page. Search the legal name and spelling variants; then call 765-362-3740 when booking delay, release, transfer, alias, or a name collision is possible. Cross-check MyCase for the case, SAVIN for alerts, IDOC after a state transfer, BOP after a federal transfer, and ICE only when immigration custody is plausible.

Use the right contact

For custody and jail rules call 765-362-3740. Captain Travis King is at travis.king@montgomerycounty.in.gov; Lieutenant Christian Brown is at christian.brown@montgomerycounty.in.gov. Records Clerk Brittany Brown handles legal appointments and jail documents through brittany.brown@montgomerycounty.in.gov. Use 765-362-0885 for non-emergency dispatch and 911 for an immediate outside emergency.

PART 02

Visiting and contact

Verify visiting mode, identification, minors and exceptions before travel.

Onsite visiting eligibility and schedule

A person becomes eligible for visitors after five full days detained. The person may submit a monthly sheet naming up to five approved adults. Onsite visits are first-come, first-served: no early check-in and no advance onsite scheduling. Each visit is 20 minutes. Current posted sessions are Monday 6:30 PM–9:00 PM; Wednesday 6:30 PM–9:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM–11:00 AM, 2:30 PM–4:00 PM, and 6:30 PM–9:00 PM; Sunday 9:00 AM–11:00 AM and 6:30 PM–9:00 PM. Start at least 25 minutes before the session ends.

ID, minors and exceptions

Bring a state-issued picture ID. Only one minor may accompany each visitor. The live page does not state which alternative IDs, custody papers, dress, infant items, disability exceptions, denial appeals, or special visits are accepted; call 765-362-3740 before travel and again on the visit date.

Remote video setup and failures

The Sheriff assigns paid remote video visits to Securus. Create the account through the Sheriff’s link, select the exact Montgomery County facility and person, test camera/audio, and retain the confirmation. The local page does not publish price, lead time, cancellation, refund, outage, or failed-visit rules; take account failures to Securus support and local eligibility questions to 765-362-3740.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information · Securus Friends and Family · Securus support

Voice calls

The live Sheriff page assigns calls from home to Securus. Use the Sheriff’s link so the account is attached to the correct facility and product. Ask Securus about account type, rates, fees, blocked numbers, payment reversals, failed calls, and unused balances; ask 765-362-3740 only about local access or restrictions.

Messages and tablets

The Sheriff links Securus for messages from home, but does not locally publish message prices, attachments, photo review, tablet availability, rejection, or refund rules. Confirm the exact Securus product before paying, save the transaction, use vendor support for technical/payment disputes, and use 765-362-3740 for local content restrictions.

PART 03

Mail, property and money

Keep mail, communications, deposits, commissary and bonds task-specific.

Personal mail

Address personal mail exactly with the sender’s full return address at upper left and: INMATE’S FULL NAME, MONTGOMERY COUNTY JAIL, 600 MEMORIAL DRIVE, CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN 47933. Mail moves on regular postal days/times. Do not enclose stickers, unknown substances/discoloration, adhesives, powders, glitter, currency, mechanized/battery devices, newspaper or magazine clippings, books, book pages, or printouts of pictures or text.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information

Books, photos and packages

The live rule bans books, book pages, and printouts sent in ordinary mail; it does not publish a publisher-direct exception, magazine/subscription rule, religious-material path, or authorized-package process. Do not order until 765-362-3740 confirms the current route. Physical photos must be unedited or “SOOC” (straight out of camera); quantity and size remain unpublished.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information

Money and commissary

The Sheriff assigns online commissary deposits to Access Corrections. Select the exact Montgomery County Jail and person, verify the identifier and amount, review fees before approval, and save the receipt. The local page does not verify lobby kiosk, phone, cash, money order, deposit limits, posting time, reversals, debt deductions, indigent supplies, commissary schedule, or release-balance method.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information · Access Corrections · Access Corrections help

Clothing, hygiene and court dress

The jail supplies clothing and hygiene items; dropoffs are not accepted. Extra items may be bought through commissary. Dress clothing for a court appearance requires an order from the court handling the case; otherwise the person appears in jail-issued clothing. Confirm the order and delivery process before bringing anything.

PART 04

Health, access and safety

Route health, medication, grievance, disability and sexual-safety concerns to the responsible channel.

Medical, dental and therapeutic care

The jail provides medical, dental, and therapeutic care through a contracted correctional healthcare corporation. A nurse is available 40 hours each week and dispenses medication twice daily; a doctor is onsite once weekly and on call 24/7. For urgent observations call 765-362-3740 and give the person’s identity, symptoms, timing, and known risks without demanding protected details; call 911 for an immediate outside emergency.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information · Montgomery County commissioners agenda — jail health contract · Montgomery County claims docket

Mental health, withdrawal and suicide risk

Report suicidal statements, withdrawal symptoms, or acute behavioral change immediately to 765-362-3740 with exact words, substances, timing, and medical history. The live page says a Q.C.C. mental-health counselor meets privately with inmates weekly. Use 988 for outside crisis support, but do not substitute it for notifying the jail that holds the person.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information · Valley Oaks Health — Montgomery County

Medication, devices and records

Medication dropoffs are not accepted. Existing or new prescriptions must be approved by the jail physician; unapproved medicine is stored with property. Ask 765-362-3740 how pharmacy verification, glasses, dental devices, other aids, discharge medicine, and clinical-record requests work. Do not bring medication to the door.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information

Grievances and appeals

No current public page gives the resident grievance form, informal step, submission method, deadline, response time, appeal, emergency grievance, accessibility, or anti-retaliation path. The resident should ask housing staff for the current written process and keep dates/copies. Families may ask Captain Travis King at travis.king@montgomerycounty.in.gov how to send nonprivileged supporting information, but cannot file as the resident unless the jail allows it.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division directory · Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information

Disability and language access

Request an accommodation from the jail before a visit or deadline: describe the functional need and requested aid, not just a diagnosis. The jail does not publish its request form, coordinator, interpreter/TTY process, decision time, or appeal. Start with 765-362-3740 or Captain Travis King; use the county ADA/Title VI page for county-level escalation. CAT accepts 711 or 800-743-3333 relay for trip reservations.

Sources: Montgomery County ADA/Title VI · Sheriff — Jail Division directory · Crawfordsville Area Transportation · U.S. DOJ ADA information

Sexual safety and PREA

The public jail page does not publish a local PREA hotline, third-party reporting route, anonymous option, outside advocate, investigation contact, or retaliation appeal. For an immediate threat call 765-362-3740 or 911; for a non-immediate custody report ask Captain Travis King for the current PREA channel and preserve dates, exact words, locations, witnesses, and requested protection. The federal PREA site is context, not a local reporting substitute.

PART 06

Travel and local needs

Plan parking, transit, food, lodging and community support without inventing a final path.

Arrival, entrance and parking

Navigate to 600 Memorial Drive, but call 765-362-3740 before leaving to confirm the public entrance, visitor check-in, accessibility, current parking area, closure, and whether identification may remain in a vehicle. The official page does not publish a verified visitor lot, accessible path, security screening, or release exit; do not infer them from aerial maps.

Crawfordsville Area Transportation

CAT provides shared, advance-reservation, curb-to-curb demand response in Montgomery County Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:00 PM and closes on city holidays. Call 765-364-5173 Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–3:00 PM: reserve at least 48 hours ahead in-county; same-day trips depend on openings. Give pickup/destination, phone, mobility device, and companions. Ask for door-to-door help if reasonably needed; drivers do not enter buildings. Confirm the jail curb and return/release pickup—no named jail stop or guaranteed pickup is published.

Food and emergency groceries

For a nearby paid meal, official location pages list Taco Bell at 1631 S US Highway 231 and Applebee’s at 1516 S Washington Street. Check current hours, accessibility, and payment before travel. For emergency groceries, use FISH of Montgomery County or the MontCares food-assistance directory; these services do not control jail meal, release, or pickup rules.

Lodging

Official booking pages list Holiday Inn Express at 2506 N Lafayette Road and Hampton Inn & Suites at 2895 Gandhi Drive. Verify same-day room availability, total price, identification, check-in age/time, accessibility, cancellation, and transport before relying on either. Neither page establishes a jail shuttle.

PART 07

Boundaries and planning

Keep the adult Sheriff jail separate from other custody, supervision, court and community systems.

Reentry and continuity

Ask early about JCAP, ACCI Life Skills, InWell peer recovery, Narcotics Anonymous, Q.C.C. counseling, clergy, and other listed programs; enrollment is not guaranteed. For community follow-up, Valley Oaks offers local behavioral-health/addiction services, Crawfordsville Mobile Integrated Health operates a Quick Response Team connection, and Indiana lists Recovery Works and other providers. Confirm appointments, identification, prescriptions, benefits, housing, and transportation before release.

Keep systems separate

Use this guide only for adult custody at 600 Memorial Drive. Work Release, Community Corrections, Probation, courts/Clerk, Public Defender, Prosecutor, Crawfordsville Police, youth detention, IDOC, BOP, ICE, the historic Rotary Jail, and private/contract or namesake facilities have separate rules. A relationship with the Sheriff does not make another program the jail.

Sources: Sheriff — Jail Division Public Information · Sheriff — Jail Division directory · Crawfordsville Police · Indiana Judicial Branch — Montgomery County · Rotary Jail Museum

Providers and bounded populations

Apply Securus only to locally linked video/calls/messages, Access Corrections only to online commissary deposits, and AllPaid only to jail-confirmed online bond transactions. Q.C.C. evidence supports a bounded clinical role, not custody decisions. CAT rules govern riders, not jail operations. Court, state, federal, immigration, youth, and work-release processes do not transfer into this adult-jail guide.

Victim notifications and safety

Use Indiana SAVIN for custody notifications and keep the enrollment record. Do not rely on a predicted release time; confirm through official channels. For an immediate threat call 911; for non-emergency dispatch call 765-362-0885. Ask the prosecutor or victim advocate about protective orders and case-specific safety planning, not jail staff for legal advice.

Sources: Indiana SAVIN/VINE · Montgomery County Sheriff landing page · Montgomery County Prosecutor staff directory

Jail programs

The Sheriff lists JCAP as a 90 day intensive program with Valley Oaks, ACCI Life Skills as a 90 day six-book program, clergy/chaplaincy, InWell peer recovery, Celebrate Redemption, Out of Darkness/church services, Narcotics Anonymous, and weekly Q.C.C. mental-health counseling. Ask the resident to request the current enrollment, eligibility, waitlist, completion record, and aftercare process; listing does not guarantee admission.

Community health and practical help

Montgomery County Health Department is at 1580 Constitution Row, Suite G, 765-364-6440, Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Valley Oaks, Mobile Integrated Health, FISH, MontCares, and state provider directories may help after release. They cannot disclose jail health information, authorize release, accept jail medication, or override jail/provider rules.

First-day family checklist

Record the legal name, date of birth, booking/ID if shown, charges, case number, housing, bond order, counsel, and next hearing. Confirm custody at 765-362-3740 before paying, mailing, visiting, or traveling. Use only the locally assigned provider for each task, keep receipts/screenshots, report urgent health/safety facts promptly, and recheck custody after every transfer or court event.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
