PART 01

Start here

Identity, lookup, contacts and first-day checks

Use the Sheriff jail at 204 County Road 70 E

Greene County Jail is the adult Sheriff jail at 204 County Road 70 E, Bloomfield, IN 47424. The county also publishes PO Box 267, Bloomfield, IN 47424 for the Sheriff and 812-384-4411. Use the street address for arrival and call before using the PO box for any inmate mail.

The published Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. hours are office hours, not a visiting schedule or proof that every lobby service is available then.

Search county custody, then the correct outside system

Start with the Indiana County Jail Public Portal. Search alternate spellings and date-of-birth combinations. If no record appears, call 812-384-4411 and ask whether the person is newly booked, released, transferred, held under another name, or outside the portal.

Use MyCase for court events, IDOC for state prison, BOP for federal prison and ICE ODLS for immigration custody. A court case is not proof of present jail custody.

Use the official main line and state the task

Call 812-384-4411 and say whether you need booking identity, visiting, mail, money, medication relay, property, bond or release information. Ask for the name or role of the person giving time-sensitive instructions and note the call date.

Commercial listings show other numbers. The current county and Indiana public-safety sources both identify 812-384-4411; do not rely on a directory number until the jail confirms it.

PART 02

Visits and communication

Visiting, video, phone and messaging

Confirm the current visit mode before traveling

No reviewed current county page publishes a Greene County Jail visiting schedule. Call 812-384-4411 and ask whether the visit is onsite, remote, or in-person; the housing-unit schedule; check-in cutoff; approved-list rule; cancellation rule; and whether a JailATM account is used.

Do not use an old commercial timetable. Ask again on the visit day because lockdown, court, transfer or classification can change access.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · JailATM — facility and service portal · JailATM — support center

Ask separately about ID, minors and accommodations

The reviewed county sources do not publish accepted identification, minimum age, minor supervision, attorney/clergy procedures, pregnancy or mobility exceptions, dress code, or special-visit approval. Ask the jail before registration and again before departure.

For an accommodation, describe the functional need, request the jail’s ADA/Title VI contact, and preserve the response. Do not send identity documents to an unconfirmed email address.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Greene County — Title VI plan · U.S. DOJ — ADA complaint · Indiana Civil Rights Commission

Treat JailATM as facility-listed, not a complete local rulebook

JailATM’s official selector lists Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the platform offers video generally. That verifies a facility association, but the county has not published which JailATM products are active, local prices, visit length or free-visit rules. Confirm the exact task with the jail before paying.

For setup failures, select Indiana and the Greene facility/person, complete any identity check, allow camera/microphone access and use JailATM support. Save the transaction number. Support says refund requests are reviewed; it does not promise a Greene County refund.

Sources: JailATM — facility and service portal · JailATM — support center · JailATM — identity verification help · JailATM — camera and microphone help · JailATM — product-scope caution

Do not assume the current voice provider

No reviewed current county source names the jail’s voice-call provider or rates. Commercial pages conflict between provider names. Call 812-384-4411 to confirm the provider, account method, blocked-number repair, refund path and whether collect or prepaid calls are supported.

For a failed call, verify the number is not blocked, that the account name matches the subscriber, and that the person remains housed at Greene County. Dispute charges with the provider shown on the receipt.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · JailATM — facility and service portal · JailATM — support center

Verify messaging and tablet availability locally

JailATM advertises email and other services generally, but no current county source confirms Greene County messaging, chirping, tablets, attachments, pricing or delivery timing. Search the provider by facility and inmate, then call the jail if the task does not appear.

Do not treat a paid message as confidential or immediate. Use counsel-approved channels for legal advice and call 911 for an external emergency.

PART 03

Mail, packages and money

Personal and legal mail, packages and commissary

Get the inmate-mail format before sending

The Sheriff publishes PO Box 267, but the reviewed sources do not say that it is the inmate personal-mail address or publish a scan-mail address, required inmate identifier, return-address rule, paper/envelope limits or rejection process. Call 812-384-4411 and repeat the full format back.

Until confirmed, do not send cash, checks, cards, stickers, perfume, staples or irreplaceable originals. Keep a copy and tracking when allowed.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Greene County — Sheriff mailing address

Confirm publisher and package rules first

The county does not currently publish limits for books, photos, newspapers, magazines, packages, clothing or release items. Ask whether books must be new and sent directly by an approved publisher, which bindings are barred, how many photos are allowed and where rejected items go.

JailATM lists gift packs generally, but facility participation and product availability must be confirmed in the live checkout and with the jail.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · JailATM — facility and service portal · JailATM — product-scope caution

Match the payment channel to the task

JailATM lists the Greene County facility and offers money services generally. Search the facility and person, verify at least two identifiers, review the fee and destination, and save the receipt. Confirm with the jail whether the payment goes to trust/commissary, bond, fees or another account; these are not interchangeable.

The county does not publish kiosk location/hours, cash or money-order rules, spending schedule, indigent supplies, debt deductions or refund timing. Call before using mail or traveling.

PART 04

Health, safety and rights

Medical care, grievances, access and PREA

Relay urgent facts without asking for a diagnosis

No reviewed public source names the current jail medical contractor, family medical-contact channel, sick-call procedure or copay. For an urgent concern, call 812-384-4411 with the person’s full name/date of birth, symptom, onset, risk and your callback number; ask staff to relay it to clinical personnel.

Call 911 for an immediate external emergency. Greene County General Hospital is a community hospital, not proof of the jail provider or a route to the patient.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Greene County General Hospital

State the risk and request immediate clinical relay

For suicide risk, withdrawal, psychosis or acute behavioral change, call the jail and use direct words: what was said or observed, when, access to means, substances and prior diagnoses if known. Ask for immediate notification to custody and clinical staff and document the time.

Hamilton Center is an outside Greene County behavioral-health resource, not the jail’s confirmed contractor and not a substitute for alerting the jail.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Hamilton Center — Greene County

Do not bring medication until staff instructs you

The jail has not published medication drop-off, pharmacy verification, eyeglasses, CPAP, mobility-device or medical-record authorization rules. Call first and ask what can be delivered, by whom, in what packaging, to which door and during what hours.

Ask clinical staff—not a commercial provider—how to authorize records. Never leave medication at an unconfirmed location.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Greene County General Hospital

Use the internal process, then preserve the record

No current county source publishes grievance forms, kiosk workflow, appeal levels, emergency grievance or response deadlines. Ask the jail how the incarcerated person submits and appeals a grievance and how a family member can report an urgent concern.

Keep dates, issue, requested remedy and response. A public-record request can seek existing policies but does not replace the incarcerated person’s required internal steps or legal deadlines.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Greene County — public-record request

Request ADA and language access explicitly

Ask the jail for a reasonable accommodation or interpreter and identify the task affected—visit, call, medical request, program, hearing or release. Ask for the responsible ADA/Title VI contact and a written response. The county Title VI plan is a dated escalation lead, so confirm current personnel.

External ADA or civil-rights complaint resources may apply after local escalation, but they do not replace urgent safety reporting or court deadlines.

Sources: Greene County — Title VI plan · U.S. DOJ — ADA complaint · Indiana Civil Rights Commission

Get the current local PREA reporting route

The reviewed county pages do not publish a Greene County Jail PREA hotline, third-party report, victim-services partner or investigator. Call 812-384-4411 and ask for the current confidential reporting and emergency-protection process; do not route an allegation through a paid social message.

The national PREA Resource Center explains the standard but does not receive or investigate local jail reports.

PART 06

Arrival and local logistics

Parking, transit, food and lodging

Confirm the correct door and accessible route

Navigate to 204 County Road 70 E, not the courthouse or a Community Corrections office. No reviewed official source publishes visitor parking, accessible spaces, after-hours entrance, security screening, rideshare waiting or the final pedestrian path.

Call 812-384-4411 before departure and ask which entrance serves your task, where to park and what may enter. Do not leave prohibited items or medication at an unattended door.

Sources: Greene County — Sheriff’s Department · Greene County — Sheriff facility detail · Greene County — Community Corrections

Ride Solution is demand response, not a jail stop

INDOT’s report identifies Ride Solution as rural demand-response transit serving Greene County. Ride Solution publishes door-to-door service, Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m., for all ages and incomes; call 812-254-3225 at least one day ahead. Same-day service is only if the schedule allows.

No fixed jail stop, fare, holiday calendar, exact 204 CR 70 E curb or return-wait location was found. Give the full address, confirm eligibility/fare and both trip legs, and ask where the vehicle can safely meet you.

Sources: INDOT — 2025 public transit annual report · INDOT — Indiana public transit systems · Ride Solution — official service page · Ride Solution — reservation caution

Use seven dates only as reservation-planning checks

The official weekday schedule supports planning calls for Thu Oct 1, Fri Oct 2, Mon Oct 5, Tue Oct 6, Wed Oct 7, Thu Oct 8 and Fri Oct 9, 2026. These are not confirmed rides. Call at least one day before each trip and reconfirm weather and availability.

Ask whether any holiday or service exception applies and reserve the return before going to the jail.

Sources: Ride Solution — official service page · Ride Solution — reservation caution

Use nearby business leads only after live confirmation

Official business pages list Dairy Queen, 309 W Main, 812-384-3320; Pizza Hut, 686 US 231, 812-384-0800; Huck’s, 509 W Main, 812-227-8080; and Casa Sevilla, 635 S US 231. Verify open hours, seating, restroom access and transport on the day.

These are practical community leads, not county endorsements and not proof of walking safety from the jail.

Sources: Dairy Queen — Bloomfield · Pizza Hut — Bloomfield · Huck’s — Bloomfield · Visit Indiana — Casa Sevilla

Confirm availability, price and distance before booking

Visit Greene County publishes a lodging directory. Park Inn lists 1250 A Street NE in Linton, but no reviewed source establishes a jail shuttle, same-day room, public rate or accessible route.

Call the lodging property directly and confirm total price, cancellation, check-in ID, accessibility and transport to 204 County Road 70 E before paying.

PART 07

Facility boundaries and programs

Separate systems, bounded populations and programs

Keep jail, courts, corrections and youth separate

The adult Sheriff jail is 204 County Road 70 E. Greene County Community Corrections, Probation, the Courthouse/Clerk, Prosecutor and the DCS youth office perform different functions. Their rules do not become jail rules because they are county agencies or nearby.

Municipal police book or investigate but are not this housing system. IDOC, BOP and ICE locators cover different custody systems.

Verify the legal custodian for outside holds

A person at the county jail may have a local case, probation matter or outside hold. That does not make state, federal, immigration, youth or Community Corrections policies applicable to the jail. Ask which agency has legal custody and which agency controls the requested decision.

Use the relevant locator only after staff identifies a transfer or outside custodian.

Sources: Indiana County Jail Public Portal · Indiana DOC offender search · Federal Bureau of Prisons locator · ICE Online Detainee Locator · Greene County — Probation · Greene County — Community Corrections · Indiana DCS — Greene County office

Ask which programs are active for the person’s unit

No reviewed county source publishes a current jail program roster, eligibility, waitlist, class schedule, religious services, education, work assignment or reentry enrollment. Ask the jail what is currently active and how the incarcerated person requests it.

Community Corrections is a separate alternative-sentencing system; its services cannot be promised to a jail resident.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
