Confirm the adult Sheriff system
Identity, lookup and responsible contacts
Use the adult Sheriff jail at 214 E 4th Street
Grant County Jail is the adult Sheriff jail at 214 E 4th St, Marion, IN 46953. The Sheriff publishes administration at 765-662-9836, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and non-emergency dispatch at 765-668-8168.
The former jail at 215 E 3rd St, courts at 101 E 4th and Court Services at 501 S Adams are not the current adult housing entrance. Confirm the secure public door before travel.

Search the county roster first and troubleshoot a no-result
Open the Sheriff’s Current Inmates page and follow its official link to the local Grant roster. Search with the person’s legal name and test spelling, hyphens and recent aliases. Save the displayed booking identifier before opening any paid service.
A no-result does not prove release: intake, spelling, transfer and posting lag are not published. Recheck the local roster, use the Indiana county-jail portal, check MyCase for the court record, then call 765-662-9836 during administration hours or non-emergency dispatch at 765-668-8168.

Route each question to the responsible office
Use Sheriff administration 765-662-9836 for jail procedures and non-emergency dispatch 765-668-8168 after hours. Use 911 only for an immediate emergency. The county does not publish a separate current booking, visitation or mailroom line.
Case and payment questions belong to the Clerk at 765-668-8121; ride questions belong to Marion Transit, not jail staff. Record the employee, date and exact answer when confirming an unpublished rule.

Plan a visit without guessing
Approval, exceptions and video
Confirm the visit format before creating or funding an account
No reviewed county source publishes a current in-person, kiosk or remote-video schedule, provider, registration lead time, housing-unit calendar or cancellation rule. Call 765-662-9836 and ask whether visits are onsite, remote or both; how approval works; and which official link controls.
Do not pay a directory or a vendor merely because it offers jail products. Confirm the person remains at Grant County Jail and ask staff how a late transfer, lockdown, missed connection or provider outage is handled.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division · Grant County Sheriff — Home
Ask for ID, minors and accommodation rules in one call
The county does not publish current visitor ID types, age threshold, guardian proof, visitor count, dress code, belongings, arrival cutoff, infant supplies, long-distance visits or attorney/clergy exceptions. Ask for each rule before leaving home and repeat back the date and housing unit.
For disability, language, pregnancy, medical-device or other access needs, request the jail’s accommodation contact and decision path. Do not assume court or state-prison visitor rules apply to this county jail.

Keep video unverified until the jail names the platform
No current Grant County source reviewed here names a video platform. Before account creation, ask staff for the exact provider, facility listing, approval steps, session length, price, taxes, refund policy, browser/app requirements and support number.
If the person does not appear in the provider, verify custody and booking identity first. Save receipts and screenshots, but direct a facility denial or lockdown question to the jail and a payment/technical dispute to the confirmed provider.

Keep channels task-specific
Calls, messages, mail and money
Do not infer the voice provider or rates
No reviewed local source names the current inmate calling provider, account types, rates, hours, call length or blocked-number process. Ask the jail for the official enrollment link and the exact identifier required before adding money.
If calls fail, check spam/call-blocking, prepaid balance and the number format only after confirming the provider. Ask whether the issue is a facility restriction or vendor error, and request the correct escalation.

Confirm messaging, voicemail and tablets separately
The county sources reviewed do not verify email, electronic messages, voicemail, photos, tablets, entertainment or legal research. A vendor may support one product without supporting another at Grant County.
Ask which products are active, how identity approval works, what content is rejected, whether credits transfer after release and where to challenge a missing message. Never treat a message as confidential legal mail without written confirmation.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division
Confirm the live personal-mail address before mailing
No reviewed county page publishes a current inmate personal-mail address, scan-mail vendor, envelope format, return-address rule or allowed stationery. Do not assume the physical jail address accepts personal mail.
Call the jail, read back the recipient name and booking identifier, and ask about cards, drawings, photos, stamps, labels, perfume and rejected-mail disposition. Use tracking only if staff confirms it is accepted.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division · Grant County Sheriff — Home
Keep legal mail separate and verify confidentiality handling
No current local source reviewed here publishes the controlling legal-mail address, required attorney marking, privileged opening process, electronic legal channel or delivery signature. Counsel should confirm those details directly with jail administration.
Do not send privileged material through ordinary messaging or an unverified personal-mail address. Record the confirmation date and recipient; for deadlines, counsel should use the court’s filing rules rather than assume jail receipt files a document.

Ask before ordering books, photos or packages
The county does not publish a current publisher-direct rule, approved retailer, format limit, package program or return procedure. Do not order a book or package until staff confirms the live address and acceptance rules.
Ask separately about paperback/hardback, used books, periodicals, religious material, photographs and third-party packages. A seller’s willingness to ship is not proof the jail will accept delivery.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division
Confirm the deposit channel before paying
No reviewed local source identifies the current trust/commissary vendor, lobby kiosk, online URL, telephone deposit, mailed instrument, fees, limits or booking identifier. Do not infer a provider from another Indiana jail.
Ask staff which channel applies to trust funds versus bond, whether the lobby is accessible after hours, what happens to rejected deposits and how release balances are returned. Keep the receipt and do not repeat a failed charge until its status is clear.

Protect health, safety and access
Clinical relay, grievances, ADA and PREA
Use the jail for an urgent family medical relay
The Jail Division says people have access to medical care, but it does not publish the contractor, family relay, sick-call, copay or callback process. For an immediate life-threatening emergency call 911; for a non-emergency custody concern call 765-662-9836 or after-hours dispatch 765-668-8168.
Give the person’s full name, booking identifier, symptom, time observed and your callback number. Ask staff to document and route the message; privacy law may limit what staff can tell you back.

Escalate safety concerns with concrete observations
For suicide risk, withdrawal, psychosis or threats inside custody, contact the jail or dispatch immediately and state the observed words, behavior, timing and access to means. Ask for a welfare check and a reference for the report.
For a community crisis outside custody, call or text 988; 911 remains the emergency route. The Grant County Health Department and 211 are community resources, not the jail’s clinical contractor.

Do not carry medication to the lobby without approval
No county source reviewed publishes family medication drop-off, pharmacy transfer, eyeglasses, durable equipment, records authorization or release-prescription rules. Call first and ask what the clinical team accepts, who may deliver it and during what hours.
Provide prescriber and pharmacy contacts rather than changing doses yourself. Ask how the person signs a records release and how discharge medication or prescriptions will be handled.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division
Ask how to file, appeal and preserve a grievance
The reviewed county sources do not publish the incarcerated-person grievance form, emergency grievance, appeal level, deadline or outside complaint contact. Ask jail administration for the current written process.
Preserve dates, names, request numbers and copies when permitted. Separate a medical request from a grievance and an emergency from both; do not delay urgent help while waiting for paperwork.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division · Grant County Sheriff — Home
Request disability and language access directly
No jail-specific ADA coordinator, interpreter request, auxiliary-aid form or effective-communication appeal is published on the reviewed pages. Contact Sheriff administration and ask for the responsible coordinator and a written response path.
State the accommodation needed and when it is needed, not a diagnosis beyond what is necessary. Marion Transit separately publishes wheelchair-accessible routes and ADA paratransit; transit eligibility does not decide jail access.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Home · City of Marion — Transportation · City of Marion — ADA Paratransit
Report sexual abuse without relying on an unpublished local form
The reviewed Sheriff pages do not publish a local PREA hotline, third-party reporting form, investigation contact or retaliation channel. For immediate danger call 911; otherwise contact jail administration or dispatch and ask that the report be routed outside the implicated chain when necessary.
Preserve the person’s exact words, location, date, time and witnesses without conducting your own investigation. Ask for reporting and anti-retaliation instructions; do not use an ordinary paid message for urgent reporting.

Coordinate case, counsel and discharge
Courts, bond, property, holds and records
Use MyCase for the record and the court for confirmation
Search MyCase for the case number, charges, filings and hearings, then confirm time and courtroom with the assigned court. The Grant County Courthouse is 101 E 4th St, Marion, generally Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. with a noon closure.
Marion City Court, Gas City Court and juvenile matters are separate. The courthouse is not the jail entrance, and an online docket is not a release promise.
Sources: Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Indiana Judicial Branch — Grant County · Grant County — Courts · Grant County — Circuit Court
Identify appointed counsel through the case, not the jail roster
Use MyCase and the assigned court to identify counsel. The Clerk at 765-668-8121 can route records questions but cannot give legal advice; the court controls appointment.
For a confidential call or visit, counsel should confirm the jail’s attorney procedure and legal-mail address. Indiana Legal Services handles qualifying civil matters, not automatic criminal defense.
Sources: Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Grant County — Clerk · Indiana Judicial Branch — Grant County · Indiana Legal Services
Confirm the written bond order and payment destination
No reviewed current county source publishes a controlling jail bond method, percentage, fee, card portal, accepted instrument or after-hours handoff. The Clerk registers bail agents and handles court payments, but that is not proof of a jail payment channel.
Read the current order in MyCase, then confirm exact amount, type, payee, location, hours, identification and receipt with the Clerk at 765-668-8121 and jail. A Sheriff history page reproduces 2000 practices; do not use those as current instructions.
Sources: Grant County — Clerk · Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Grant County Sheriff — Current Jail (archived 2000 article)
Confirm release-property and pickup rules before sending anyone
No reviewed county source publishes clothing exchange, property release, designee ID, pickup hours, abandoned-property deadline or transfer handling. Ask staff whether the incarcerated person must sign authorization and which door is used.
For release, ask for clothing, identification, medications, funds and valuables together. Do not leave property at the lobby unless staff has approved the item and recipient.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division · Grant County Sheriff — Home
Treat release timing as provisional until every hold clears
The county does not publish a release window, pickup door, identity requirement, hold-check workflow or transfer notification. A court order or paid bond may not be the final operational clearance.
Recheck the local roster, MyCase and jail. Ask whether another county, IDOC, federal or immigration authority has a hold; then confirm the final door and ride only after staff says discharge is complete.

Build the first-day plan around confirmed discharge
Before discharge, ask about identification, benefits, medications, prescriptions, records, supervision reporting, housing, food and transportation. Indiana 211 can route community services; BMV publishes identification replacement information.
Court Services at 501 S Adams St combines Probation and Community Corrections and is separate from jail housing. Confirm whether and when the person must report there.

Separate jail records from court, medical and dispatch records
Use the Clerk for court records, MyCase for the public docket and Sheriff administration for jail-record routing. Ask each custodian for the correct form, fee, identification, redaction and appeal process.
Medical records require a separate authorization and are not the court file. Dispatch records are held by Central Dispatch. Record requests do not substitute for urgent welfare reporting.

Plan the Marion trip
Arrival, transit, food and lodging
Confirm the public jail door and parking before the trip
Navigate to 214 E 4th St, but call first because the reviewed county pages do not publish visitor parking, accessible stalls, drop-off, screening entrance or after-hours lobby access. The courthouse at 101 E 4th is a separate destination.
Ask which side of the building contains the correct public entrance, what identification can enter and where a mobility device or interpreter meets staff. Do not use the former 215 E 3rd jail.

Use the downtown terminal as a planning point, not a jail-door promise
Marion Transit System provides free weekday fixed-route service, generally 7 a.m.–5 p.m., from the terminal at 202 S Adams St. Routes are wheelchair accessible; ADA paratransit operates within its published corridor after eligibility.
No official schedule names a Grant County Jail stop or final secure-door path. Call MTS at 765-668-4445 and the jail to confirm the route, downtown walk, crossings and entrance. The bilingual PDF conflicts on paratransit and Spanish-access phone numbers, so recheck them.

Recheck seven dated service snapshots
Planning snapshots from the official weekday/holiday schedule: Wed Sep 30, Thu Oct 1 and Fri Oct 2, 2026 are ordinary weekday-service dates; Sat Oct 3 and Sun Oct 4 have no fixed-route service; Wed Nov 11 (Veterans Day) and Thu Nov 26 (Thanksgiving) are no-service holidays.
These are not reservations or live alerts. Recheck weather, detours and ADA eligibility with MTS; do not schedule a jail appointment or release pickup from the timetable alone.

Use verified local directories and recheck hours
The Grant County Visitors Bureau dining directory is a practical starting point, and Hostess House publishes a restaurant at 723 W 4th St. These are community options, not Sheriff endorsements.
Call for current hours, accessibility, takeout and holiday service before walking from the jail. Do not leave someone waiting at the jail based on an unconfirmed meal stop.
Sources: Grant County Visitors Bureau — Dining · Hostess House — Restaurant
Use one verified lodging lead and confirm the live stay
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Marion publishes 1000 N Baldwin Ave, Marion, IN 46952, 765-573-6656, 3 p.m. check-in, 11 a.m. checkout and minimum check-in age 18. It publishes free registered-guest parking and no shuttle.
Rates, rooms and accessible features can change; confirm directly. The hotel is not represented as walkable to the jail and does not solve the final-door transit gap.

Keep evidence and systems bounded
Facilities, victim safety, programs and release
Keep Sheriff custody separate from every adjacent system
This guide applies only to the adult Grant County Sheriff jail at 214 E 4th St. The former jail, courthouse, city courts, juvenile court, Court Services, Community Corrections, municipal police, state prisons, federal prisons and immigration detention keep separate rules.
Use IDOC, BOP or ICE locators only after evidence of transfer. A MyCase record, SAVIN alert or Court Services appointment does not by itself prove present jail housing.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Home · Grant County Sheriff — History of the Jail · Grant County — Courts · Grant County — Court Services · Indiana DOC — Incarcerated Search · Federal Bureau of Prisons — Inmate Locator · ICE — Online Detainee Locator
Register for SAVIN notifications without treating them as custody proof
Indiana SAVIN is free, confidential and available 24/7/365 at 1-866-959-8463 or VINELink. Choose a four-digit PIN; unanswered release calls may repeat until the PIN is entered or 48 hours pass. Multiple phone numbers may be registered.
SAVIN is a notification tool, not a guarantee of safety, court attendance or current location. Keep a personal safety plan and call 911 for immediate danger.
Sources: Grant County Sheriff — Jail Division · Indiana SAVIN · VINELink
Treat program descriptions as high-level until staff confirms eligibility
The Jail Division describes rehabilitation, educational, vocational, counseling and reintegration work, but does not publish a current catalog, schedule, waiting list, eligibility, cost, credits or family enrollment path.
Ask the classification or programs contact which services operate for this person’s housing and sentence. Court Services programs are separate and do not prove jail enrollment.

Prepare identification, care, supervision and the first ride
Build a written release checklist: identity, property, funds, medications, prescriptions, benefits, housing, food, phone, supervision and transport. Indiana 211, BMV and Indiana Legal Services can route community, ID and qualifying civil-legal needs.
Confirm the actual discharge time and door before sending a driver or relying on MTS weekday service. Ask whether Court Services at 501 S Adams must be the next stop.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
