Identity, lookup and responsible contacts
Use the current adult Sheriff jail at 175 W Spring Street
Floyd County Jail is the current 363-bed adult Sheriff facility at 175 W Spring St, New Albany, IN 47150. The Corrections Division houses pretrial detainees, county-sentenced people and some state and federal offenders. Use 812-948-5404 for corrections questions.
311 Hauss Square is a court and county-office address, not the current physical jail address published on the Sheriff’s current inmate and divisions pages. Do not import rules from Floyd County facilities in Georgia, Kentucky, Iowa, Texas or Virginia.

Confirm custody before paying, mailing or traveling
Start with the Indiana County Jail Public Portal. Save the exact booked name, name number or booking identifier, booking date, custody status and listed agency. Then call the jail AIS at 812-948-5406 and choose option 2; the Sheriff also points families to MobilePatrol.
If there is no match, remove extra filters, try a former or hyphenated name, call AIS and ask whether intake, release, court movement or transfer explains the result. MyCase shows court events, not current housing. Search IDOC or BOP only after staff says the person left county custody.

Use the phone that owns the task
Corrections questions: 812-948-5404. Automated inmate/bond information: 812-948-5406. Sheriff main line: 812-948-5400. Records: 812-542-1790. The Sheriff publishes headquarters lobby hours of Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; this is not a promise that every custody transaction is available throughout those hours.

Plan and protect the visit
Scheduling, exceptions and failure recovery
Schedule the monthly free onsite visit first
Each incarcerated person is entitled to one free 30-minute onsite visit per month, on Saturday or Sunday and subject to availability. Register in Securus with the incarcerated person’s legal name or name number and the visitor’s picture ID, address, phone and email. Arrive at least 15 minutes early with a valid state-issued ID.
The public page does not publish exact weekend time blocks or the monthly reset rule. Use the live scheduler, save the confirmation and check again before driving.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Securus — Video Connect
Prepare minors, clothing and belongings before screening
Minors must be with a parent or guardian; the scheduling list accepts a school ID for a minor, but all arriving visitors are also told to present valid state-issued ID. That wording does not explain every minor or alternate-ID case, so call ahead.
Do not bring bags, phones, cameras, medications, food or drinks into the visitation area. Open-toe shoes, high heels, no shoes, revealing clothing, gang symbols, disruptive behavior or appearing impaired can end or suspend visits. Vehicles and people on Sheriff property may be searched.
Use Securus video only for the published video task
Remote video is published daily from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Schedule at least 24 hours ahead and pay before the session. The county calls scheduled sessions non-refundable, and visits may be denied, canceled or terminated for conduct. Except attorney accounts, video is recorded and monitored.
Before paying, test the camera, microphone, browser/app and connection; use Securus support for account or device failure. The county page does not publish the current price or distinguish facility cancellation from provider outage, so capture checkout terms.

Keep each channel task-specific
Calls, messages, mail and money
Do not infer the voice provider from Securus video
The reviewed local pages verify Securus for video and digital mail, but do not identify the current incarcerated-person voice-call provider. Call 812-948-5404 before funding a voice account. Ask which vendor, account type, number approval, rates, call hours, blocks, refund and transfer rules apply.

Confirm messaging and tablet products separately
No reviewed Floyd County source confirms paid electronic messages, photo messaging, voicemail, tablets or legal research. A product shown in a national provider menu is not facility proof. Ask corrections which products are enabled for this housing unit and what happens to purchased credits after release or transfer.

Send personal mail to the Tampa digital-mail address
Address regular mail exactly: Inmate name and name number, C/O Securus Digital Mail Center – Floyd County Jail, PO Box 21768, Tampa, FL 33622. It is scanned and screened. If mail is withheld, the jail says the incarcerated person is notified with the reason.
Do not send lewd/graphic or gang content, newspapers or magazine articles, books, blank paper, staples, paper clips, stickers, prohibited/contraband items, or mail sent from a third party or website.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Securus — Digital Mail Center
Resolve the jail’s two published legal-mail addresses before sending
The current inmate page says: Inmate Name and Name Number, Floyd County Jail, 175 W Spring Street, New Albany, IN 47150. The Sheriff FAQ still prints 311 Hauss Square. Both are first-party pages reviewed the same day.
Call 812-948-5404 and ask which address controls now, how to mark legal/privileged mail, and whether tracking or a return address is required. Only attorneys, courts and government entities qualify for direct legal/privileged mail under the published rule.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Floyd County Sheriff — Resources / FAQ
Treat books as prohibited and confirm every other item
The jail expressly prohibits books in incoming mail, along with newspaper and magazine articles. It does not publish a separate publisher-direct exception, approved package program, photo dimensions, card limits or original-item return process. Do not order before the mailroom confirms acceptance.
Use Tiger, the 24/7 lobby kiosk or a capped mailed instrument
For online commissary deposits, follow the county’s link to Tiger Accounting / Tiger Deposit; a service fee applies. The front-lobby kiosk is available 24/7, accepts cash and cards, and charges a fee.
By mail, send a money order or cashier’s check of $100 or less for the incarcerated person to 175 W Spring Street, New Albany, IN 47150. Confirm the exact payee line, name number, current limit and release-balance process before sending.

Protect health, safety and access
Clinical relay, grievances, ADA and PREA
Use corrections for an urgent family medical relay
The Sheriff does not publish a medical contractor, family message line, sick-call route or copay. For urgent non-911 information, call corrections at 812-948-5404, identify yourself, give the incarcerated person’s legal name/name number, describe the time-sensitive fact and ask that it be relayed to medical staff. Staff may accept information without disclosing protected medical details.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Floyd County Sheriff — Home
Report immediate risk and ask for the custody response
For suicide risk, withdrawal, psychosis or immediate danger, call corrections and state the specific behavior, timing and substance/medication history; call 911 for an active community emergency. The county Health Department links 988 for community crisis support, but 988 is not the jail medical unit.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Home · Floyd County Health Department · Indiana FSSA — 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Do not drop off medicine unless jail medical arranges it
The Sheriff says items generally cannot be dropped off. If something is medically necessary, the jail doctor must deem it necessary and staff will contact family to arrange delivery. Ask before bringing medication, glasses, contacts, devices or records; retain the prescriber, pharmacy, dose and last-use information.
Ask for the inmate grievance route and preserve dates
No reviewed public page states the internal grievance form, kiosk category, emergency route, deadline, response time or appeal. The incarcerated person should request the current grievance procedure and keep the issue date, request date, response and appeal. Family should call corrections for an urgent safety relay but should not assume that call files the inmate grievance.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Floyd County Sheriff — Home
Request custody accommodations before the transaction
Call 812-948-5404 for wheelchair access, sign-language interpretation, language help, visual/hearing aids, medication access or a visit accommodation. Floyd County has a general ADA/Title VI pathway, but the reviewed source does not say it replaces the jail’s inmate or visitor accommodation process. Ask who owns the request, the response deadline and appeal.
Sources: Floyd County — ADA / Title VI · Floyd County — Government Home · Floyd County Sheriff — Home
Use the local and outside sexual-safety routes carefully
The jail page directs third parties to the Sheriff’s Office or 1-800-656-4673. That number is the National Sexual Assault Hotline; the jail page labels the linked organization as the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. Preserve the distinction and state the person’s name, location, immediate danger and safest callback method.
For emergency danger call 911. Ask jail administration for the confidential internal, third-party and outside-reporting paths and non-retaliation follow-up.

Coordinate case, counsel and discharge
Courts, bond, property, holds and records
Separate housing from the case record
The Sheriff says a newly arrested person ordinarily attends court the next business day, with assignments posted by the Clerk. Use MyCase for the case number, charges, court and next event; do not read a hearing entry as proof of current housing.
The Clerk is at 311 Hauss Square, Room 235, phone 812-948-5411, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Resources / FAQ · Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Floyd County — Clerk’s Office · Indiana Judicial Branch — Floyd County
Allow time for public-defender assignment
If the court appoints the Floyd County Public Defender at the initial hearing or first court date, the office says assignment usually takes 4 or 5 days. Check MyCase, then call 812-981-0350 with the case number if counsel is not shown.
Attorney in-person visits occur during regular business hours with government ID and bar card; private Securus attorney accounts are also available. Do not discuss case facts in ordinary email, personal mail or monitored family video.
Sources: Floyd County — Public Defender · Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information
Use the Clerk by day and exact cash at the jail only when the Clerk is closed
During Clerk business hours, confirm and pay court cash bond through the Clerk. The jail accepts court cash payments only after hours, weekends and county holidays when the Clerk is closed. The jail takes exact cash only, no coins or change, requires government ID and adds a $5 special death benefit bond fee per criminal case.
The page describes court cash as 10%, full cash as 100% and surety as 10% paid to an approved bonding company, yet also says the Clerk and jail accept only the “full bond amount.” Call both offices with the case number and written order before arriving.
Sources: Floyd County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Floyd County Sheriff — Resources / FAQ · Floyd County — Clerk’s Office
Follow the published before-8 or after-4 property window
An incarcerated person may authorize property release seven days a week only before 8 a.m. or after 4 p.m.; no release occurs during regular business hours. The recipient needs valid state-issued ID, and the incarcerated person may refuse unless a court order controls.
After an IDOC transfer, the person can name two pickup people; staff attempts contact and expects pickup within 48 hours. Call first for the entrance, authorization status and what happens after the deadline.
Build the ride around clearance, not an estimate
Sentenced releases begin at 9 a.m. unless a court order says otherwise. The Sheriff does not publish the release door, notice window or processing duration. Confirm all local/other-agency holds, property, funds, medication and supervision reporting before dispatching a ride.
The FAQ says pickup by another county has no fixed statutory time and describes a local general practice of transport within 10 days; that is not a release promise.

Keep Community Corrections separate from jail release
Floyd County Community Corrections is at 1613 E Spring St, Suite 3, phone 812-948-5418. It operates home detention, home incarceration, transition, work crew and community programs; it is not the jail and placement is not automatic.
Indiana 211 can route food, housing, health and transportation needs. Confirm the first report, eligibility and appointment directly with the responsible agency.
Sources: Floyd County — Community Corrections · Indiana FSSA — Indiana 211
Use the correct record custodian
Use MyCase for public court entries and the Clerk for certified court records or payment questions. Use Sheriff Records at 812-542-1790 for the Sheriff record process. Medical, jail grievance and attorney files have separate access and privacy rules; ask the record owner for the form, fee, ID and response channel.

Plan the New Albany trip
Arrival, Route 71, food and lodging
Navigate to 175 W Spring, then verify the visitor door
Use 175 W Spring St as the current jail/headquarters destination. The Sheriff publishes lobby hours of 8 a.m.–4 p.m. weekdays, but onsite visits occur on weekends and may use a controlled entrance; call for the correct door and screening instructions.
County court pages say parking is available around the courthouse, and the city manages off-street lots, but neither source designates a jail visitor lot, accessible space, drop-off point or weekend rules. Read signs and confirm the final path before leaving a vehicle.

Route 71 publishes service for Wednesday Sep 30, Thursday Oct 1, Friday Oct 2, Saturday Oct 3, Sunday Oct 4, Monday Oct 5 and Tuesday Oct 6, 2026. These are planning checks, not reservations or guarantees. Use the weekday table on Sep 30–Oct 2 and Oct 5–6, the Saturday table on Oct 3 and the Sunday/holiday table on Oct 4. Recheck alerts the day of travel.

Use verified groceries and 211 instead of assuming lobby food
Kroger lists New Albany grocery locations, including New Albany Plaza; verify current hours before relying on a store. Indiana 211 can identify food pantries and meal programs by current eligibility and hours. Food and drinks are prohibited in jail visitation areas, so finish or store them before screening.

Use a downtown lodging option, but verify live availability
Hampton Inn New Albany Louisville West is at 411 W Spring St, phone 812-945-2771. The hotel publishes free onsite parking and breakfast; check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout 11 a.m. Rates, accessible-room inventory and availability change, so confirm before payment. Hotel parking is for hotel guests, not jail visitors.

Keep systems separate and prepare forward
Boundaries, safety, programs and first day
Keep courts, supervision, youth and outside custody separate
The jail at 175 W Spring is distinct from the Clerk/Public Defender at 311 Hauss Square, Community Corrections at 1613 E Spring, Youth Services, New Albany Police, Indiana prisons, federal prisons and immigration detention. Some state and federal offenders may be housed locally under the Sheriff; that bounded population does not make IDOC or BOP rules applicable inside Floyd County Jail.

Do not use a visit or message to bypass a no-contact order
The visitation rules prohibit victims or suspects from visiting a person named in a no-contact, injunction or protective order, and also prohibit contact with a named victim/suspect in a criminal case. Use MyCase for orders and the prosecutor’s victim-assistance channel for safety planning. For immediate danger call 911.

Ask what is active and how the person enrolls
The Corrections Division says it offers programs and life-skills courses and partners with community resources, but it does not publish a current catalog, schedule or eligibility. The jail separately allows one-on-one approved clergy volunteer visits after application, orientation and background check. Ask which unit programs are active and how the incarcerated person requests them.

Prepare identification, benefits, care and the first ride
Before discharge, confirm identification, property, funds, medications, prescriptions, records, housing, food, transportation and any supervision report. Indiana 211 can route local services; the BMV explains replacement IDs; Indiana Legal Services handles qualifying civil legal matters.
Do not promise the 9 a.m. start is the pickup time. Recheck holds, the release door and Route 71 alerts after staff clears discharge.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything
Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.
Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
