Separate custody, lookup and responsible contacts
Use the current Justice Center at 3100 S Tillotson
Delaware County Jail is the adult Sheriff jail in the Delaware County Justice Center at 3100 S Tillotson Ave, Suite 150, Muncie, IN 47302. Call the jail at 765-747-7870. The official roster and current Sheriff footer use the Tillotson campus.
Do not use the former 100 W Washington Street jail address reproduced by stale directories. Courts and probation also operate at the Justice Center but are not housing units.

Confirm custody before money, mail or travel
Search the official Sheriff roster by name. Save the displayed inmate number, exact spelling, booking date, scheduled-release field, total bond, statute and case number. Cross-check Indiana’s county-jail portal and MyCase, remembering that a court case does not prove current housing.
If there is no result, retry fewer fields and alternate spellings, then call 765-747-7870 with date of birth, arrest date and arresting agency. Search IDOC, BOP and ICE separately only when county custody is not established.

Send each question to the office that controls it
Use 765-747-7870 for jail operations, 765-747-7885 for Sheriff administration and 765-747-7878 for non-emergency dispatch. The county separately lists courts, Public Defender, Prosecutor, Adult Probation and Community Corrections.
Do not send medical details, payment-card data or attorney-confidential facts through the general Sheriff web form. Ask the jail for the approved recipient and channel.

Prepare for locally confirmed visiting
Do not adopt conflicting third-party schedules
Confirm the current visit mode and schedule directly
The rebuilt official jail page currently says “Content Coming Soon” and publishes no local visit days, cutoff, duration, frequency or onsite/remote rule. Detailed schedules on commercial directories conflict and are not adopted here.
Call 765-747-7870 before creating an account or traveling. Ask for housing-based hours, approval lead time, free onsite availability, arrival time and the correct public entrance.
Sources: Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office
Verify ID, minors, dress and exceptions before departure
No current official local source publishes the visitor list, accepted photo ID or alternatives, rules for minors/guardians, dress, belongings, infant supplies, late arrival, clergy, long-distance or disability exceptions. Ask the jail about each item for the specific visit date.
Bring only what staff approves. A provider account approval is not the same as facility approval.
Sources: Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · U.S. Department of Justice — ADA Information
Do not choose a video platform from an unofficial listing
Third-party pages disagree between GettingOut/ViaPath and ICSolutions. The county confirms a GTL/ViaPath relationship for inmate phone live help, not a current local video schedule. Confirm the live facility name with the jail before payment.
If directed to a platform, save approval and transaction IDs, test camera/microphone, and use provider support for password, token or failed-session problems. Ask the jail about facility cancellations.

Keep each account and address task-specific
Phone, messages, mail and trust money differ
Use the county-published GTL help line for phone setup
The county lists GTL inmate phone live help: 1-866-230-7761. Confirm Delaware County, Indiana in ConnectNetwork before funding. Ask whether the person uses AdvancePay, PIN Debit or another account type; balances do not automatically move between products or facilities.
For blocked calls, verify the number, carrier restrictions and account status with GTL. For facility restrictions or a transfer, call the jail. Save receipts and do not assume a refund or balance transfer.
Sources: Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · ViaPath / GTL — ConnectNetwork
Keep messaging and tablet money separate from phone funds
The official county pages do not publish a local messaging/tablet product, pricing or whether photos are enabled. Do not infer those services from GTL phone support alone.
If the live facility selector offers messaging, confirm the recipient by inmate number, review the current checkout total, and save the receipt. Ask provider support about rejected messages and the jail about disciplinary or transfer restrictions.
Sources: Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · ViaPath / GTL — ConnectNetwork
Confirm the current mail address before sending anything
The county has not published a current personal-mail format on its rebuilt jail page. Stale directories still point to the former Washington Street jail, while other directories use Tillotson; neither substitutes for an official mail instruction.
Call 765-747-7870 and ask for the exact recipient line, inmate-number placement, physical versus scanning address, return-address rule and disposition of originals. Do not mail to a street address merely because it is the custody address.
Sources: Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · Delaware County Sheriff — Inmate Lookup
Keep legal mail separate and obtain counsel instructions
No reviewed local source publishes the legal-mail address, marking, delivery, inspection or privileged-copy procedure. The personal-mail channel may not be appropriate.
Counsel should call the jail for current professional-contact and legal-mail instructions, use the court filing channel for filings, and preserve tracking. Families should not label ordinary mail “legal.”
Sources: Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · Delaware County — Public Defender · Delaware County — Circuit Courts
Verify books, photos and packages item by item
The jail has not published current local limits for photos, books, magazines, greeting cards, envelopes, paper, packages or publisher/direct-shipping rules. Do not order until staff confirms the vendor and address.
Ask what happens to rejected items and whether originals are returned, stored or destroyed. Keep the order confirmation and tracking number.
Sources: Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office
Confirm the live trust vendor and transaction purpose
The county’s current jail page does not identify a trust/commissary vendor, kiosk location, accepted payment types, limits, fees, package store or refund process. Commercial sources conflict between eXpressAccount/TIGGS and Access Corrections.
Call 765-747-7870, confirm the current channel and required inmate identifier, then verify the final fee at checkout. Trust money is not automatically bond, phone or tablet money.

Protect health, safety and access
Use urgent relays and preserve unpublished procedures as gaps
Relay an urgent health concern through the jail
No current public source identifies the jail clinical contractor, family medical line, sick-call procedure or outside-hospital notification rule. For an immediate threat call 911; for a serious non-911 concern call the jail and ask staff to relay it to medical.
Give full name, inmate number, date of birth, condition, symptoms, onset and callback number. Staff may receive information without disclosing protected details.
Sources: Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · HHS — HIPAA for Individuals
Use the same urgent relay for mental-health risk
For suicide, self-harm, withdrawal, psychosis or other acute risk, call 911 if immediate or the jail at 765-747-7870 and clearly request an urgent welfare/mental-health relay. Record time, staff name and information supplied.
The public pages do not publish screening, counseling, observation or continuation-of-care procedures. Ask medical/custody staff what additional documentation is accepted.
Do not bring medication without instructions
No reviewed local source explains prescription verification, drop-off, pharmacy transfer, controlled medication, glasses, CPAP, hearing aids or records authorization. Call before bringing any item.
Ask whether the prescriber or pharmacy must verify it and how the incarcerated person signs an authorization. Do not expect staff to discuss diagnosis or treatment without permission.
Sources: Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · HHS — HIPAA for Individuals
Start with the internal jail grievance route
Indiana DOC says county-jail complaints and grievances must go to the Sheriff department or the internal grievance/medical system, not IDOC Jail Services. Delaware County does not publish the local form, deadline, appeal or emergency bypass.
The incarcerated person should ask staff/kiosk for the current grievance path, keep dates and receipt numbers, and identify requested relief. Families can call the jail for process information but should not assume they can file in the person’s place.
Sources: Indiana DOC — Operations Division / Jail Services · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office
Request access needs before a visit or transaction
Current local pages do not publish a jail ADA coordinator, interpreter channel, auxiliary aids or accessible entrance details. Call the jail before travel and describe the functional need, date, service and communication method requested.
MITS publishes fixed-route accessibility and MITSPlus complementary paratransit information, but transit eligibility does not arrange jail access.
Sources: Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · U.S. Department of Justice — ADA Information · MITS — Accessibility · MITSPlus — Riding
Report sexual abuse without using a general payment channel
The county does not publish a jail-specific PREA reporting number, outside reporting partner or third-party procedure. For immediate danger call 911; otherwise call the jail and ask for the current confidential PREA reporting route.
Preserve names, dates, locations and any report number. Do not send sensitive allegations through a money, messaging or general web form unless directed.
Sources: Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · U.S. Department of Justice — PREA
Coordinate case, counsel and release
Use the office controlling each decision
Use MyCase and the court named on the booking
The roster can show statute, case number and bond; MyCase shows public docket information. Confirm the court and hearing directly because time, courtroom and transport can change.
Felony courts, Clerk and other justice offices are separate from jail custody even when located at the Justice Center. A docket entry does not confirm release.
Sources: Delaware County Sheriff — Inmate Lookup · Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Delaware County — Circuit Courts · Delaware County — County Clerk
Contact assigned counsel through the correct office
Search MyCase for attorney-of-record information. If the court appointed counsel but no attorney appears, contact the Delaware County Public Defender at the county-published office, then call the court if assignment remains unclear.
For confidential calls, video or visits, counsel must obtain the jail’s current professional-contact instructions; family video rules should not be used.
Sources: Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase · Delaware County — Public Defender · Delaware County — Circuit Courts · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office
Read the live bond field, then confirm payment instructions
The official roster displays a total bond field, but the rebuilt county jail page does not publish who may pay, location/hours, payment methods, fees, exact-change rules or after-hours handling. Indiana’s pretrial system also means an old cash-bail description may not fit the current order.
Call 765-747-7870 with inmate and case numbers; confirm the controlling court order and where the payment must go. Do not send trust money expecting bond credit.
Sources: Delaware County Sheriff — Inmate Lookup · Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · Indiana Judicial Branch — MyCase
Ask for the property-release procedure before pickup
No current official page publishes property-release authorization, pickup hours, accepted ID, abandoned-property period or release-to-third-party rule. The incarcerated person may need to initiate the request.
Call the jail before driving. Ask whose approval is required, which entrance to use and whether property follows a person transferred elsewhere.
Sources: Delaware County — Jail · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office
Treat a release time as provisional
The official roster includes a scheduled-release field, but release can still depend on court paperwork, identity checks, warrants, holds, transport and final processing. Do not promise pickup from a displayed time.
Confirm status with the jail shortly before travel. Ask about the public release door, property/medication return, clothing needs, phone access and whether another agency will take custody.
Sources: Delaware County Sheriff — Inmate Lookup · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office
Connect supervision and community help without merging them
Delaware County Community Corrections and Adult Probation are separate supervision systems, not jail housing. Ask release staff which office, appointment and documents apply. Veterans can contact the county Veterans Service Office.
For food, shelter, treatment or transportation referrals, use Indiana 211, Muncie Mission and Open Door Health Services; confirm eligibility and hours directly.
Sources: Delaware County — Community Corrections · Delaware County — Probation · Delaware County — Veterans Service Office · Indiana 211 · Muncie Mission · Open Door Health Services — Locations
Request the record from the agency that owns it
The roster is a current custody aid, not a certified booking or court record. Ask the Sheriff/jail how to request booking or incident records, the Clerk for court records, and medical staff for the authorization needed for health records.
Describe the record, person, date range, case/incident number and preferred format. Expect exemptions and redactions for protected information.

Plan the Tillotson arrival
Use Route 17 without inventing a final entrance
Confirm the public entrance and parking before leaving
The current custody campus is 3100 S Tillotson Ave, Suite 150. Official pages do not identify the jail’s visitor entrance, parking lot, accessible stalls, hours, overflow rules, rideshare point or release pickup zone.
Call the jail the same day. Do not report to the former Washington Street jail or assume the court entrance serves visits, property, bond and release.
Sources: Delaware County Sheriff — Inmate Lookup · Delaware County — Contact the Sheriff’s Office · Delaware County — Probation
MITS Route 17 serves the Justice Center by name
MITS Route 17 Justice Center runs from the downtown MITS Station via 8th at Hoyt and Freedom Acres to a stop named Justice Center. The live schedule lists weekday arrivals at 8:42, 10:12 and 11:42 a.m.; 1:12, 2:42 and 4:12 p.m., with returns departing at those same times.
Confirm the stop, accessible path and live service at 765-289-6487. The published route table shows Monday–Friday trips only; do not assume Saturday or Sunday Route 17 service.

Use seven dated checks instead of a generic weekly promise
Planning dates from the current weekday rule: Wed Sep 30, Thu Oct 1 and Fri Oct 2, 2026 — Route 17 timetable published; Sat Oct 3 and Sun Oct 4 — no Route 17 trip published; Mon Oct 5 and Tue Oct 6 — timetable published. Recheck alerts and the app before each trip.
If disability prevents fixed-route use, review MITSPlus eligibility and reservation rules in advance; it is not an on-demand substitute for an unplanned jail trip.

Use live local listings around a confirmed visit window
The final visitor entrance and same-day schedule are not published, so a restaurant “near the jail” may still be poorly placed. Use the Muncie visitor bureau’s current food directory after the appointment is confirmed, and call the business for hours.
For food insecurity after release, use Indiana 211 rather than a tourism listing.
Sources: Visit Muncie — Eat · Indiana 211
Choose lodging after confirming the custody campus
Use the Muncie visitor bureau’s live lodging directory and verify address, check-in, accessibility, cancellation and total price with the property. Do not book near the former downtown jail.
For emergency shelter or recovery support, contact Muncie Mission and confirm intake requirements; it is not a hotel or jail release pickup service.
Sources: Visit Muncie — Stay · Muncie Mission
Keep systems and safety routes distinct
Do not transfer adult-jail rules
Keep jail, courts, supervision and youth custody distinct
Only adult Sheriff custody at the Tillotson Justice Center is in this guide. Circuit Courts and Probation at the campus are task-specific offices. Community Corrections is alternative supervision. Youth Opportunity Center/juvenile placements, Muncie Police, IDOC prisons, BOP and ICE use separate custody and rules.
Court transport by Sheriff deputies does not make a courthouse a jail and does not transfer jail rules to another facility.

Use victim services and custody alerts without exposing plans
Victims can contact the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Victim Advocate Program and use Indiana SAVIN/VINE for notifications. Call 911 for immediate danger.
Do not put a protected address, travel plan or safety concern into a public roster search, payment memo or ordinary inmate message. Ask the advocate which confidential channel applies.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
