Adult Sheriff custody at 101 NE 4th Street only; Work Release/Community Corrections, youth, municipal, court, state, federal, immigration, Kentucky and vendor identities remain separate.
- Confirm custody
Use the Indiana portal, then call 812-254-1060 or the directory Detention Center line 812-254-5974 for the exact ID.
- Use task-specific channels
Use InmateSales for current visits/communications, JailATM for the selected trust or bond transaction, and the jail for facility decisions.
- Verify the final trip
Call Ride Solution at 812-254-3225 because the current city service statement outlasts the official GTFS calendar.
Confirm the adult Sheriff system
Separate the Security Center from supervision, courts and outside custody
Use the adult Sheriff Security Center at 101 NE 4th Street
Daviess County Security Center is the adult Sheriff jail at 101 NE 4th Street, Washington, IN 47501. The county Jail Command page publishes a 260-bed jail. Use 812-254-1060 for the Sheriff/Security Center and note that the current staff directory separately labels 812-254-5974 as the Detention Center line.
The same Jail Command page mentions an additional 52-bed work-release center. Current Community Corrections records place Work Release and other court-approved alternatives at 415 W Walnut Street; those programs are not ordinary adult-jail housing and their rules must not be attached to this guide.

Confirm physical custody before paying, mailing or traveling
Start with the official Indiana County Jail Public Portal and select Daviess County. Search the full legal name, retain the displayed spelling and ID, and retry with fewer fields if a middle name or birth date suppresses a result. Then call the Security Center with the arrest date and arresting agency.
Use MyCase for the court file, not as proof of current housing. If county custody is not established, check IDOC, BOP and ICE separately. VINE can monitor later release, transfer, escape or death events, but the Sheriff warns not to rely on VINE alone for safety.

Send each question to the office that owns it
Use 812-254-1060 for custody, facility rules, property, release-date questions and an urgent relay; the staff directory also lists 812-254-5974 for Detention Center. Use 812-254-8671 for Superior Court criminal-case administration and 812-254-8670 for Circuit Court.
Use InmateSales support for communication-account or device failures, JailATM for the selected deposit/bond transaction, and the jail for housing, approval or discipline decisions. Call 911 for an immediate life-safety emergency.

Prepare lobby or at-home video
Use current schedules, ID rules and provider troubleshooting
Schedule the correct lobby or at-home video visit
Create or use one InmateSales account. The county publishes lobby visits Monday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m., and at-home visits Monday–Sunday, 7 a.m.–9 p.m.. Schedule at InmateSales, call 866-340-7879, or use the lobby scheduler.
The county states that a person receives one 20-minute lobby visit per visitation week while web visits are unlimited and cost $0.20 per minute. Save the live confirmation; the pages do not publish an advance-booking deadline, check-in cutoff, cancellation rule or lockdown-credit rule.

Bring ID and plan minors, belongings and conditional release
Visitors must register with name, address and relationship and present a valid driver’s license, picture ID or birth certificate. A visitor under 18 must be immediate family and accompanied by a parent, grandparent or legal guardian, or show proof of marriage to the person visited. No more than two adults may visit at once; children must remain with the adult.
Leave coats, purses, umbrellas, phones and other personal items in the vehicle. No food, drink, smoking, photography or audio/video equipment is allowed; everyone entering is subject to search. A visitor on probation, parole, furlough or work release needs approval from both the supervising person/agency and the Sheriff.
Separate scheduling, technical and jail-controlled failures
For schedule changes call 866-340-7879; CTel publishes video-scheduling support Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. Central and Saturday 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Central. For visitation, phone or texting trouble, the county publishes 877-998-5678.
Before a paid home visit, verify the correct person/facility, test camera, microphone, browser/app and connection, and retain the receipt and confirmation. Provider support owns login, payment and connection faults; the Security Center owns denials, housing restrictions, lockdowns and early termination. Refund/credit timing is not locally published.

Keep communications, mail and money distinct
Use task-specific channels and preserve provider conflicts
Use the live InmateSales option, but preserve the phone-card conflict
The current visitation page says phone time and texting can be purchased through InmateSales and gives 877-998-5678 for trouble. The communications page instead describes prepaid phone cards from the Sheriff lobby vending machine or commissary, and the county quick links still point to Securus. Do not blend these channels.
Open the current facility/person listing first and purchase only the product shown for Daviess. If a number is blocked, a transfer is pending or a balance seems missing, save the transaction ID and call provider support; call the jail for facility restrictions. Incoming-call, refund and transfer rules are not published locally.

Confirm texting and any tablet features before funding
The county expressly says texting can be purchased through InmateSales. It does not publish which housing units can use texting, email, photos, documents, tablets or chirpers, and the provider warns generally that product availability varies by facility.
Select Daviess County and the person first. If a feature is absent, do not fund a different product as a substitute. Ask provider support whether the feature is disabled and ask the jail whether housing or disciplinary restrictions apply.

Use USPS and the exact full-name/ID address block
Send letters only through USPS to: full name; ID number; Daviess County Security Center; 101 NE 4th Street; Washington, IN 47501. Use a legible sender name and return address and write in ordinary ink or pencil. Mail is processed as soon as possible and distributed daily except weekends and legal holidays.
Mail without a return address goes to property; a missing sender name may cause return. Colored ink/pencil, marker, crayon, paint, perfume/foreign odor, stickers, glitter, glue, loose stamps/envelopes, internet pages and newspaper or magazine copies are among published prohibited items. Violations may be returned, stored as property or referred to investigators.

Mark privileged correspondence and protect original documents
The jail identifies correspondence to or from attorneys, courts and government officials as privileged and says it is opened and inspected in the person’s presence. The visit page says legal mail must be mailed rather than passed during a visit, and legal discovery must come from the attorney of record.
No reviewed page publishes an exact privileged marking, attorney-number line, after-hours delivery, rejection appeal or confidential electronic exchange. Counsel should call before sending originals or time-sensitive discovery and retain a copy and tracking record.

Keep photos within 4×6 and preapprove every package
Photos may not exceed 4×6 inches. Polaroids, nudity/suggestive clothing, gang/drug/alcohol content and obscene images are prohibited. Sound cards, glitter/glue cards, commercial mail, boxes, parcels and packages may also be rejected or stored.
The Sheriff publishes no normal publisher-direct book rule and prohibits book copies and many commercial items. No package is accepted unless the Jail Administrator preapproves it, and all approved packages are inspected. Call before ordering a book, magazine, clothing or care package.
Sources: Daviess County Sheriff — Communicating with Inmates
Keep commissary, phone funding and bond payments distinct
For commissary, use the Security Center lobby machine with cash or credit card, JailATM online, or mail a money order/cashier’s check bearing the full name and ID to the Sheriff Department at 101 NE 4th Street. Cash, personal checks and traveler’s checks are not accepted by mail.
The county says commissary includes snacks, personal clothing, games, hygiene and pharmacy items. It also says the lobby/JailATM account may cover phone minutes, while the current visit page assigns phone/text funding to InmateSales. Confirm the product, recipient, fee and posting time before paying; do not use bond money as trust money.

Protect health, safety and access
Use published 24/7 care and explicit unresolved procedures
Use the jail’s 24/7 emergency-care path and ask for a clinical relay
The county states that Security Center medical staff provide care, emergency medical care is available 24/7, and no one is denied treatment because of inability to pay. Every health-care visit requires a copayment, but the amount is not published.
For imminent danger call 911 and the jail with the person’s name, symptoms and timing. For a non-emergency concern, call the Security Center and ask staff to relay concise facts to medical staff. The contractor, sick-call method, dental path, family clinical number and hospital-notification practice are not published.
Sources: Daviess County Sheriff — Inmate Medical · Daviess County Sheriff’s Office · Daviess County — Sheriff staff directory
Report imminent self-harm through emergency channels
For imminent self-harm, overdose, psychosis or violence risk, call 911 and the Security Center; give observed facts, timing and known medications. Indiana 988 can support the caller and help organize the report but does not replace jail emergency response.
The county medical page says medical staff control isolation for continuous care, medical watch or infectious conditions, but it does not publish a mental-health contractor, crisis callback, observation criteria, family authorization or continuity procedure.

Confirm medicine, glasses and records before bringing anything
No reviewed jail page tells families whether prescription containers, inhalers, glasses, hearing devices, CPAP equipment or other aids may be dropped off, when staff accept them or what documentation is required. Do not place medicine or equipment in mail or a visit.
Call the Security Center, ask for current medical intake instructions and record the staff member/date. For records or disclosure, ask medical staff what signed authorization is required; community Health Department records are separate from jail clinical records.

Keep the internal jail grievance and outside family complaint separate
The public pages do not publish the person-in-custody request/grievance form, emergency grievance, appeal deadline, retaliation safeguard or status route. The person should ask housing staff for the current written process and retain copies, dates and response names where permitted.
A family member may send concise facts to Sheriff administration at 812-254-1060 or info@dcsheriff.com, but that contact does not substitute for the person’s internal deadline. Ask who owns the complaint and when to follow up.

Request jail accommodations first; use the current county ADA appeal if needed
Ask the Security Center for disability, mobility, hearing, vision, communication or language accommodation before the event and document the request. Indiana Relay can assist with calls. The current county ADA procedure names Chris Winkler, 5247 E 100 N, Montgomery, 812-444-5798, and allows alternative complaint formats.
The current procedure says file within 60 calendar days; the coordinator meets within 15 days, responds within 15 days after the meeting, and an unsatisfactory decision may be appealed within 15 days. A much older transition plan lists a different coordinator at the jail address; use the current grievance document and preserve the conflict.

Treat sexual abuse or retaliation as urgent and preserve evidence
If there is immediate danger, call 911 and the Security Center and request separation and medical protection. For a non-immediate report, give the person’s name, location, date/time, accused person and retaliation concern; avoid asking the victim for repeated details and preserve messages or other evidence.
No reviewed local page publishes a PREA coordinator, anonymous/third-party channel, outside reporting agency, evidence window or status contact. Ask Sheriff administration for the current PREA reporting route; do not send sensitive details through ordinary public comments or assume an IDOC route covers this county jail.
Sources: Daviess County Sheriff’s Office · Daviess County Sheriff — Jail Command · U.S. DOJ — PREA Resource Center
Coordinate court, counsel, bond and release
Call the office that owns each decision
Use MyCase and the correct court; do not rely only on a standing arraignment time
Use MyCase for the case number, court, charges, filings and scheduled hearing, then confirm with the clerk/court. The county jail page publishes initial arraignments Monday at 10 a.m. and Thursday at 8:30 a.m., subject to holidays and weather.
Superior Court handles all criminal offenses and is at 200 E Walnut Street, 812-254-8671. Circuit Court is 812-254-8670. Neither court may discuss a case privately with one side; send scheduling or filing questions to staff, not the judge ex parte.

Confirm appointed counsel through the trial court
Ask the criminal court or clerk whether counsel has been appointed and obtain the attorney’s exact name and contact. The Indiana State Public Defender handles qualifying post-conviction matters after commitment; it does not replace local trial counsel.
No reviewed county page identifies a standalone Daviess public-defender office or publishes confidential attorney visit/call/video and document-exchange rules. Counsel should call the Security Center for professional-access instructions; families should not use ordinary mail to send legal discovery on counsel’s behalf.

Call the Booking Officer before any 24/7 payment
Before paying online or at the lobby kiosk, call the Booking Officer to confirm the bond type, exact amount, person/booking ID and any hold. The county describes own-recognizance, full cash, 10% cash and credit-card bonds; credit-card bonds may use JailATM or the lobby machine.
The Security Center says it bonds people out 24/7, but some violent charges require at least eight hours and intoxication may require a minimum hold. Save the receipt. The court clerk controls later bond return after authorized deductions; confirm card fees, cardholder/ID rules and processing time at checkout.

The person must authorize release of the entire lock-up bag
Clothes, shoes, hats and coats remain in a numbered tote and are not signed out unless the person awaits IDOC transport. Valuables are sealed in a separate lock-up bag in the person’s presence.
At the person’s request, a friend or family member may receive the lock-up bag, but staff will not open or split it; all contents must be released together. The recipient needs valid photo ID. Call first for authorization status, pickup entrance and hours because those details are not published.

Separate a projected jail date from a guaranteed exit
For a county sentence, call 812-254-1060 for the calculated date. Questions about the sentence itself go to counsel or the court. If sentenced to IDOC, wait for transfer and use the IDOC search; the county does not control the final state release date.
The county says people receive an opportunity to call before release, but it does not publish the release door/window, notice lead, clothing, medicine/property handoff, pickup point or transport. Ask about other cases, warrants, detainers and transport orders before treating a projected date as final.
Sources: Daviess County Sheriff — Out/Release Dates · Indiana DOC — Offender Search · Daviess County — Superior Court · Daviess County — Circuit Court
Ask about current in-jail classes, then build a local handoff
The jail publishes volunteer 12-step, AA/NA and Celebrate Recovery groups and Purdue Extension classes in battered-women education, nutrition, anger management and parenting when funding and need allow. Ask housing staff what is currently open; a published program is not guaranteed enrollment.
For local release planning, call United Way of Daviess County at 812-254-1038, dial 211 for food/housing/health referrals, and use WorkOne for employment. Community Corrections/Work Release at 415 W Walnut is court-approved supervision, not an automatic jail aftercare service.

Request each record from its actual custodian
The Sheriff sells administrative records in person or by mailed request and offers a local criminal-history check limited to Daviess County arrests/charges. Court filings and judgments come from the clerk/court or MyCase; jail clinical records require the medical custodian’s authorization process.
Ask for the form, fee, ID, redaction limits, delivery method and expected time before sending payment. A Sheriff record does not substitute for a statewide or federal record, and a public case docket does not prove current custody.

Plan the downtown last mile
Verify parking, transit, food and lodging
Confirm the visitor door and parking before arrival
Navigate to 101 NE 4th Street, not the Courthouse at 200 E Walnut, Government Center at 300 E Hefron or Community Corrections at 415 W Walnut. The county does not publish the visitor entrance, parking lot/row, accessible path, after-hours bond door, loading zone or rideshare point.
Call the Security Center for the exact door and parking instructions. For a lobby visit, leave prohibited belongings in the vehicle and plan enough time for registration, ID review and building search.

Use Washington Transit/Ride Solution but verify the current timetable
The current city page says Washington Transit operates a one-hour deviated fixed route Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., with a deviation up to 3/4 mile. The official brochure/GTFS identify City Hall as a scheduled stop; City Hall is at 101 NE 3rd Street and the jail is at 101 NE 4th Street, but no source identifies the final public jail entrance.
Call Ride Solution at 812-254-3225 before relying on the trip. The older brochure/GTFS publish 812-254-4564 for transit/deviation and the GTFS calendar expired December 31, 2025. Confirm live time, correct phone, deviation eligibility, wheelchair needs, the exact drop-off and return leg.

Treat seven weekdays as planning checks, not booked trips
The seven dated checks cover Thursday October 1 through Friday October 9, 2026 on weekdays only. They reflect the current city statement of Monday–Friday service, not a reservation or real-time vehicle promise.
For every date call 812-254-3225 and confirm that service is operating, the timepoint, whether City Hall or a deviation is safer, accessibility, fare, the jail door and a return ride. The archived brochure says free rides, but live fare status must be confirmed.

Use real local contacts and recheck hours
The Daviess County Visitors Bureau lists Big Al’s Place, 4 E National Highway, 812-610-0042; Hacienda El Asadero, 303 E National Highway, 812-254-4322; and Benjy’s Restaurant, 800 E National Highway, 812-674-2145. These are travel options, not jail services.
The reviewed tourism page does not publish dependable opening hours for these listings. Call before walking or ordering, especially after an evening visit. For food assistance rather than dining, dial 211 or call United Way for a current eligibility-based referral.
Sources: Daviess County Visitors Bureau — Dining · Indiana 211 · United Way of Daviess County — Contact
Call lodging directly for availability and accessibility
The local tourism directory lists Baymont by Wyndham, 7 Cumberland Drive, 812-254-7000; Holiday Inn Express, 1808 E National Highway 50, 812-674-5365; and Budget Inn, 412 E South Street, 812-254-5816.
No rate, room, check-in time, accessibility feature or transportation is guaranteed here. Call the property, confirm the actual nightly total and cancellation terms, and ask whether an accessible room and ride to 101 NE 4th Street are available.
Keep systems and vendors separate
Do not transfer adult-jail rules to another identity
Keep the Security Center apart from every outside system
This guide covers adult Sheriff custody at 101 NE 4th Street. It does not cover Community Corrections/Work Release at 415 W Walnut, probation, municipal police holding, juvenile detention, courts, IDOC prisons, BOP, ICE or the similarly named Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro, Kentucky.
InmateSales is a bounded communications provider; JailATM is a bounded commissary/bond transaction channel. Neither controls custody, clinical care, visiting approval, release or court outcomes. The County Health Department is a community office, not jail medical staff.

Use VINE as a supplement, never the only safety plan
Call 866-959-8463 or use VINELink to check custody and register phone/email notices for release, transfer, escape or death. For phone registration choose a four-digit PIN; operators are available 24/7, and unconfirmed calls may retry for up to 48 hours.
The Sheriff expressly warns not to rely only on VINE. If danger is immediate call 911. Keep emergency contacts and a safe location ready, and contact the prosecutor/court about any protective-order or victim-notification case question.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything
Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.
Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
