JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE
The details you need.
In one place.
Sources reviewed
Adult Sheriff custody at 715 Judicial Plaza Drive only; court, supervision, youth, state, federal, immigration, municipal, community-health and vendor identities remain separate.
- Confirm custody
Use the Sheriff-linked roster, then call 812-338-2802 ext. 2.
- Use task-specific services
CPC handles communications; JailATM handles deposits.
- Reserve the rural last mile
Call SITS for both legs and confirm the jail entrance.
Confirm the adult Sheriff system
Separate custody from adjacent offices
Use the adult Sheriff jail inside the Judicial Complex
Crawford County Jail is the adult county jail operated by the Sheriff at 715 Judicial Plaza Drive, English, IN 47118. Call 812-338-2802 and choose extension 2 for the jail; jail staff are available by phone 24/7.
The Sheriff administration is identified as Suite 138 in the same complex. That suite and the published “right when entering” direction describe the administrative office, not a verified visitor check-in door. Confirm the correct public entrance before traveling.

Confirm physical custody before paying, mailing or traveling
Start with the inmate search linked by the Sheriff. Search the full legal name, then retry without a middle name or with spelling variants. Save the displayed booking identifier. If no record appears, call the jail at 812-338-2802 ext. 2 with the arrest date and arresting agency.
MyCase tracks a court case, not current housing. The Indiana county portal is a secondary check; IDOC, BOP and ICE have separate locators. Do not send money or mail until staff confirm the person and identifier.

Route each question to the office that owns it
For custody, local rules, health relays, inmate property and release, use 812-338-2802 ext. 2. Dispatch is extension 1; administration is extension 3 and publishes Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. The jail and dispatch phone functions remain available 24/7. Call 911 for an immediate emergency.
Use CPC for communication-account failures and JailATM for deposit problems, but the jail controls approval and housing rules. Court, clerk, prosecutor and probation contacts are separate. Do not send sensitive information to the stray “info@mysite.com” text displayed beside the Sheriff-domain email.

Prepare both visit modes
Use the published in-person rule and live CPC policy
Reserve the published Wednesday in-person visit
The Sheriff publishes one 30-minute in-person visit per week, Wednesday from 6–9:30 p.m., scheduled first-come in the order of calls. Call 812-338-4880 before noon Wednesday. The visitor must be on the person’s visitation list.
Up to three adults or teens age 15+ may visit with valid ID. Rules may change; confirm the housing unit, arrival time, check-in door and any suspension during the scheduling call. Do not treat this timetable as a remote-video schedule.
Confirm minors, identification and special exceptions before arrival
The first Wednesday of each month permits children of all ages when accompanied by an adult. On other Wednesdays the published minimum is age 15. The page gives no alternative-ID, guardianship-document, infant-supply, dress, belongings, late-arrival or professional-visit rule.
Ask the jail whether every visitor is already approved, what original ID is accepted, whether the three-person limit includes children, and what can enter the lobby. Staff retain discretion, so record the name of the staff member and time of confirmation.
Use CPC for video and verify the Crawford-specific checkout
The Sheriff identifies CPC/InmateSales for video visitation. Create the account with a matching valid ID and shoulder-up photo, select Crawford County, add the correct resident, then review the live facility policy before scheduling. CPC recommends current Chrome and its separate viewing app for a remote session.
The county does not publish Crawford-specific video days, price, lead time, cancellation, failed-session credit or recording notice. For scheduling help use 866-340-7879; for approval or housing restrictions call the jail. Never blend the Wednesday in-person schedule into video.

Keep communications, mail and money distinct
Follow task-specific rules and vendors
Fund the correct CPC calling product
The Sheriff directs families to InmateSales for voice calls. CPC says incarcerated people cannot receive incoming calls and current service is prepaid. Direct Pay funds calls to one destination number; PIN Debit belongs to the incarcerated person and may call multiple approved numbers.
Confirm which product is active before paying. Save the transaction ID. Ask CPC about blocks, live rates, taxes, refund or transfer; ask the jail about calling hours and approval. The English CPC page publishes 702-829-3001, while the Spanish page publishes 877-998-5678; this conflict remains open.

Treat Chirps as a separate verified service
The Sheriff publishes Chirps at $0.10 for each incoming or outgoing message. CPC describes Chirper as a separate product and warns that facility availability and live fees control. Do not assume email, photos, documents or tablet entertainment are enabled merely because Chirps are.
Confirm the recipient identifier, device access, blocked-contact procedure and live price before funding. CPC says phone funds may be transferable, while Chirper balances are not transferable but a refund can be requested after release or transfer.

Address personal mail exactly and preserve the photo ambiguity
Address personal mail to Inmate’s Name, P.O. Box 220, English, IN 47118. Include a return address and the exact name confirmed by the roster. The Sheriff says all mail is screened; plain cards only, with no glitter, layers or pockets, and no vulgar or nude material.
The same page says “no colored ink or pictures,” accepts pictures colored with crayon, and permits pictures within reason at staff discretion. Because those statements conflict, send only plain black/blue-ink correspondence until the jail confirms what “pictures” means. Ask how rejected mail is noticed and disposed.

Do not treat the personal-mail paragraph as a legal-mail rule
No reviewed Crawford source publishes the privileged legal-mail address, required marking, attorney identification, opening/inspection procedure, rejection appeal or confidential document exchange. Counsel should call 812-338-2802 ext. 2 before sending.
Use the court file for counsel-of-record and MyCase status, not for jail mail instructions. Marking an envelope “legal mail” does not itself establish local handling. Preserve tracking and copies, and ask counsel to document any interference through the jail’s current grievance route.

Use the narrow Amazon softback rule
The Sheriff says books must be softback and purchased and mailed directly from Amazon. Do not send a personal package or a used book. Before ordering, call to confirm the resident name/identifier, quantity, content limits and whether Amazon Marketplace sellers qualify.
Personal photos and colored material are governed by conflicting language on the same page. No Crawford source confirms third-party care packages. JailATM participation is verified for money only; never assume its care-pack catalog applies.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Inmate Information · JailATM — Facility and resident search · JailATM — Support
Choose one verified money channel and verify the purpose
The Sheriff permits a mailed money order or cashier’s check, not personal or two-party checks; confirm payee and identifier before mailing. Online deposits use JailATM. Cash or cards may be deposited at the front-entrance kiosk at 715 Judicial Plaza Drive.
JailATM publishes 877-810-0914 and a general $300 weekly maximum that may vary by facility. Confirm the Crawford limit, fee, kiosk hours, posting time, refund, release balance and indigent supply policy. CPC explicitly does not take commissary deposits.

Protect health, safety and access
Relay urgent facts and preserve unpublished procedures
Relay urgent facts without expecting a diagnosis
No reviewed source identifies the jail’s medical contractor, sick-call route, copay, dental process, family clinical line or hospital-notification practice. For an urgent custody concern call 812-338-2802 ext. 2; state the person’s full name, observable facts, diagnosis/medication if known and callback number. Call 911 for an immediate community emergency.
The Crawford County Health Department at 812-338-2302 is a community clinic, not the jail medical unit or records custodian. Do not ask it to override custody care.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Contact · Crawford County Health Department — Contact Us
Escalate a mental-health warning with concrete observations
No local page publishes the mental-health contractor, crisis callback, observation criteria or continuity authorization. Call the jail with specific behavior, words, timing, diagnosis, medications and recent discharge. Ask staff to repeat back the name and concern and request the current clinical escalation route.
Indiana 988 supports a person in community crisis and family planning, but it cannot enter the jail or confirm care. If danger is immediate, call 911 and the jail; do not use ordinary email or a provider-payment help desk for a clinical warning.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Contact · Indiana FSSA — 988
Call before bringing medication or medical equipment
The Sheriff only confirms that plastic-frame eyeglasses and contact lenses are among items staff may accept; most listed items must be new/unopened and remain discretionary. The page does not authorize family-delivered medication, inhalers, sharps or equipment. Call first and never leave medication at an unconfirmed door.
Ask medical staff for the prescriber/pharmacy verification process, approved container, drop-off time and authorization form for records. Preserve pharmacy and prescription details. Community health records and jail clinical records have different custodians.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Inmate Information · Crawford County Health Department — Contact Us
Ask for the current internal request, grievance and appeal path
No reviewed Crawford source publishes the request slip, grievance deadline, emergency grievance, appeal, retaliation protection or family-complaint route. The incarcerated person should request the current written process and keep dates, names, copies and response numbers.
A family member may call jail administration at 812-338-2802 ext. 3 to identify the policy owner, but cannot file or waive an internal deadline unless the jail says so. Immediate safety and medical warnings should be relayed at once, not held for a grievance.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Contact · Crawford County Sheriff — Staff
Request disability or language access before the appointment
No local source names a jail ADA coordinator or publishes an accommodation form, accessible visitor route, auxiliary aids, interpreter process or denial appeal. Call administration and the jail before travel; describe the functional need, requested aid, date and task. Indiana Relay is a communication option, not a substitute for the jail’s obligation to decide an accommodation.
For a Spanish or other-language caller, ask for an interpreter and document the response. Do not bring mobility or medical equipment for an incarcerated person until custody and clinical staff approve the exact item and delivery.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Contact · Indiana FSSA — Indiana Relay · U.S. DOJ — ADA.gov
Treat sexual-safety reports as urgent and preserve evidence
No reviewed Crawford page publishes a local PREA coordinator, third-party or anonymous route, outside reporting agency, evidence window or status contact. For immediate danger call 911 and the jail. Say that the report concerns sexual safety, give the resident’s name/location and request separation and medical attention without conducting your own interview.
Preserve messages, names and times; do not instruct the person to wash, discard clothing or confront anyone. Ask the jail for its current written PREA and retaliation policy and outside reporting route. The national PREA Resource Center explains the framework but does not take local reports.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Contact · PREA Resource Center
Coordinate court, counsel, bond and release
Use the office that owns each decision
Use MyCase and the Crawford court for the case, not custody
Use MyCase for docket entries and hearing dates, then confirm with the Crawford Circuit Court at 812-338-3113 or Clerk at 812-338-2565. Search by exact name and case number; MyCase search tips explain how to broaden a failed search.
A court entry does not prove the person remains at Crawford County Jail. The Sheriff controls custody and transport; the judge controls orders; the clerk maintains filings; the prosecutor represents the state. Do not ask one office to decide another’s function.

Confirm appointed counsel through the court file
Check MyCase and the Clerk for counsel of record. If the person cannot afford counsel, the court—not the jail—decides appointment after the local financial process. The statewide public-defender page is guidance, not proof that a particular lawyer was appointed.
No reviewed jail source publishes confidential attorney-call, visit, video, document-exchange or after-hours procedures. Counsel should call the jail and identify themselves before using CPC or sending documents. Indiana Legal Services handles eligible civil matters, not criminal defense.
Sources: Indiana Courts — MyCase · Crawford County — Clerk of the Circuit Court · Indiana Commission on Court Appointed Attorneys — Obtaining a Public Defender · Indiana Courts — Public defender links · Indiana Legal Services — Locations · Indiana Legal Services — Apply online
Confirm the live order, holds and payment channel before paying
Use MyCase and the Clerk for the current bond order, then call the jail to confirm the amount, charge, all holds, accepted tender, location, hours, identification, fee and release effect. No reviewed Crawford page publishes a current online or kiosk bond method. JailATM is verified for trust deposits, not bond.
State-hosted county bond schedules may be historical and direct users to current local rules. Never infer a payable amount from an old schedule or a third-party page. Save a court-stamped or jail receipt and ask whether another jurisdiction prevents release.

Separate inmate property from Sheriff evidence release
The Sheriff’s “Property & Evidence Release” page covers evidence, found property and safekeeping held by the agency; it is not a published inmate-property pickup policy. That process is appointment-only, may require government photo ID, and may require legal, court, prosecutor or investigating-agency authorization.
For clothing, wallet, keys or property stored at booking, call the jail for release authorization, pickup person, hours, ID, deadline and unclaimed-property handling. Do not submit the evidence form unless staff confirms that it applies.
Sources: Crawford County Sheriff — Property and Evidence Release · Crawford County Sheriff — Contact
Plan release as an unverified event, not a promised time
No reviewed source publishes a release window, discharge door, notification, pickup lane, medication supply, property handoff or transport after hours. Before traveling, call the jail with the booking identifier and ask whether court processing, another hold, identity check or transport remains.
Do not promise a time based on a court entry or bond receipt. The person should confirm destination and safe contact when allowed. CPC and JailATM control only their account processes; they do not decide physical release.

Verify local jail-treatment and supervision eligibility
An IDOC 2024 grant list identifies a Crawford jail-treatment program, but no current Sheriff page publishes whether it operates now, who qualifies, curriculum, referral, completion, waitlist or discharge handoff. Ask the jail and South Central Indiana Community Corrections contact James Grizzel at 812-338-3033.
Community Corrections and probation are supervision/program systems, not this jail. WorkOne Region 10 uses 812-948-6102 for appointments; FSSA handles benefits/Medicaid; 211 can locate current food, housing and recovery help. Crawford is not listed as an IDOC work-release facility.

Request each record from its actual custodian
The Sheriff maintains custody and incident records; the Clerk maintains court filings; the medical provider maintains clinical records; CPC and JailATM maintain account transactions. Ask each custodian for its current form, proof of identity, fee, delivery method and appeal.
If the inmate roster is wrong, the Sheriff staff page says errors can be corrected after notice. Save screenshots, URLs and dates. A public-record request does not create a family right to confidential medical, PREA or security information.

Plan the rural last mile
Verify the door, reservation and both directions
Confirm the public jail entrance and accessible route
Navigate to 715 Judicial Plaza Drive, English, IN 47118. The Sheriff says its administrative office is inside the Judicial Complex and to the right upon entering, marked by a sheriff’s star. That does not establish the jail visit door, after-hours entrance or kiosk access.
No reviewed official source publishes a visitor lot, overflow rule, accessible parking path, security screening, rideshare point or waiting policy. Call the jail before departure and ask for the correct door for visit, kiosk or property task. Do not park in a court-only or restricted law-enforcement area.

Treat SITS as reservation-based door-to-door service
Southern Indiana Transit System serves the general public in rural Crawford County and publishes door-to-door service Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–6 p.m. Eastern. Call 812-738-1681 or 866-738-1681. Give pickup address/county, phone, appointment time, destination, return pickup, wheelchair need and companions.
Published one-way fares are $2 for 0–10 miles, $3 for 11–20 and $4 over 20; out-of-area travel adds $1.25 per mile each way/person. Exact change is required. The operator does not publish a fixed jail stop, booking lead, pickup window or guaranteed jail trip. Reserve both directions and confirm the entrance.

Use seven dated checks as planning prompts, not reservations
The next reviewed weekday planning checks are October 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 2026. Each falls within the operator’s published Monday–Friday window, but none is a booking, pickup promise or proof of capacity.
For each date call SITS, reserve outbound and return legs, ask about holiday/service changes, exact fare and pickup window, then call the jail for the correct entrance and appointment. If no opening exists, the operator says it may offer an alternative; callers may check cancellations.

Separate travel food from jail commissary
No reviewed source establishes a meal vendor or walkable restaurant at Judicial Plaza. Crawford County United Ministries Pantry is listed at 529 W Old State Road 62, Leavenworth, 812-739-2476; the library says Tuesday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. while the current tourism calendar says 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Call before travel.
The local dining directory lists Curbette, 658 E State Road 64, English, 812-338-2416, but does not establish current hours or proximity by foot. Confirm hours and transport. Food assistance and restaurant purchases do not fund jail commissary.

Verify lodging directly; no availability is promised
The Crawford County Welcome Center at 5935 S State Road 66, English, 812-739-2246, maintains the current lodging directory. Call for a property matching dates, mobility, late arrival and transport; the directory does not promise a room, rate or jail shuttle.
Sycamore Springs Park at 717 W Tunnel Hill Road, 812-338-3846, lists seasonal operation April 1–November 1; Lucas Oil Golf Course lodging lists 139 N Boss Lane, 812-338-3748. Confirm booking, season, address and cancellation directly.

Keep systems distinct
Do not transfer adult jail rules to another identity
Keep the adult jail separate from every adjacent authority
The adult Sheriff jail is only the custody system at 715 Judicial Plaza Drive. Sheriff administration and dispatch share agency/complex relationships but perform different tasks. The Circuit Court, Clerk, Prosecutor and Probation may share Judicial Plaza addresses; they do not house people or set jail operating rules.
Community Corrections, South Central Indiana Community Resources, work release, youth custody, municipal police, neighboring jails, IDOC, BOP and ICE remain separate. CPC is communications; JailATM is deposits; SITS is transportation; the Health Department is community health. No vendor or outside office is the jail.

Use VINE and local victim resources without relying on one alert
Indiana VINE can provide custody-status notifications, but users should verify directly before safety-sensitive decisions. Update contact settings and preserve the case number. For protection-order information use Indiana Courts; for local advocacy, Hoosier Hills PACT serves Crawford County. Call 911 for immediate danger.
The Prosecutor at 812-338-3522 handles the state’s case, not personal legal advice. Do not disclose a victim’s location through inmate messaging or ordinary email. Ask an advocate about safety planning, confidentiality and hearing support.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything
Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.
Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
