Brown County Jail — Nashville, Indiana
The Sheriff publishes unusually useful visiting blocks and local CPC/Stellar/JailATM handoffs. Mail, clinical, grievance, ADA/PREA, bond, property, release and final-arrival details still require direct confirmation.

Sheriff-operated adult county jail at 55 State Road 46 East; preserves a bounded jail-based Community Corrections residential listing only where IDOC establishes it; excludes youth, state prison, federal, immigration, municipal, court, supervision, museum and neighboring-county identities.
- Confirm custody
Call 812-988-6655 and record ID, authority and case.
- Use the right account
CPC is phone/video; Stellar/JailATM handles locally described commissary tasks.
- Reserve the trip
Access Brown County requires advance booking and does not guarantee the requested time.
Start with identity and custody
Confirm the adult jail, person and controlling authority.
Use the current Sheriff jail at 55 State Road 46 East
Brown County Jail is the Sheriff-operated adult county jail at 55 State Road 46 East, Nashville, IN 47448; call 812-988-6655. Jail Commander Andy Reed is listed at extension 1317.
Do not confuse this operating jail with the courthouse at 20 East Main Street, Nashville Police, county Community Corrections, an IDOC prison or youth facility, federal or immigration custody, or the Old Log Jail museum.
Confirm physical custody before money, mail or travel
No live Brown County Sheriff roster was found on the current county pages. Call 812-988-6655 with the full legal name, date of birth, arresting agency and approximate arrest time. Record the booking or resident ID, housing status, case number, holding authority and any transfer or release instruction.
- Search Indiana SAVIN for county-custody alerts.
- Use MyCase for court records, not as proof of present housing.
- If staff identifies IDOC, youth, BOP, ICE or another county, switch to that operator’s locator and rules.

Prepare the correct kind of visit
Separate housing-group visiting, lobby video and remote provider setup.
Use the published housing-group schedule and arrive before it starts
| Men | Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 2–3 p.m. and 6–7 p.m. |
|---|---|
| Women | Monday, Tuesday and Friday: 3–4 p.m. and 7–8 p.m. |
| Protective custody | Thursday: 2–3 p.m. and 6–7 p.m. |
| Lobby video kiosk | Monday–Friday: 8–11 a.m. and 1:30–3:30 p.m.; one free onsite video visit per week. |
Each incarcerated person is allowed one visit per week and up to four visitors at a time. Everyone must be signed in and in the Sheriff lobby before the block begins; late arrivals are turned away.

Bring the exact ID and prepare the visitor form
Each visitor must show a non-expired state-issued ID. A visitor under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian over 18. The Sheriff invites visitors to complete the facility visitor form before arrival; it asks for date of birth, Social Security number, address, employer, emergency contact, open-case and probation information, then records warrant/NCIC review and approval.
The page does not publish dress, belongings, infant supplies, alternative ID, disability, long-distance, clergy, attorney or special-visit exceptions. Call before travel. Once a visitor leaves the visiting area, re-entry is not allowed.

Set up InmateSales before relying on video
Brown County links video service to InmateSales/CPC. Create an account, request access to Brown County Jail and the person, and check the live facility policy before scheduling. CPC says the profile and uploaded valid ID must match; it accepts a driver’s license, state ID or passport and recommends Chrome. Use InmateSales to schedule and InmateSales View for a remote session.
For token, approval or failed-session help call video scheduling at 866-340-7879. Brown publishes lobby video hours, but not remote price, duration, cancellation deadline, failed-session credit or whether remote visits count against the weekly limit.
Separate communication, mail and money
Keep CPC phone/video and Stellar/JailATM commissary tasks distinct.
Choose CPC phone funding by who should control it
The Sheriff says CPC phone cards can be purchased at the lobby kiosk, by 877-998-5678 or through InmateSales. CPC describes Direct Pay as family-controlled funds tied to one phone number, and PIN Debit as resident-owned funds usable for multiple numbers. Keep the transaction ID.
Calls cannot be returned. For a blocked number, mistaken funding, transfer or release refund request, call CPC; facility-specific rates and enabled account types appear only in the live menu.

Do not assume messaging, email or tablet service is enabled
CPC offers messaging and tablet products at participating facilities, but the Brown County pages establish only phone cards and video. Confirm the enabled Brown County services in the live InmateSales facility menu before paying. Ask CPC about verification, attachments, delivery, rejection and refunds.
Get a current personal-mail address before sending anything
The current Sheriff jail and visitation pages do not publish a personal-mail address or envelope rules. The physical jail address and Sheriff P.O. Box are official contacts, but neither page authorizes either address for incarcerated-person mail. Call 812-988-6655 for the exact recipient line, booking-ID requirement, return-address rule, scan-mail vendor if any, page limit and rejection process.
Keep legal mail separate and verify privileged-delivery instructions
No current local page publishes the legal-mail address, attorney identification, confidential-opening procedure or court-deadline exception. Attorneys and families should ask the Jail Commander for the direct privileged-mail route before sending. Do not route legal papers through an assumed personal-mail vendor.
Do not send books, photos or packages without approval
No current Brown County page authorizes books, subscriptions, photographs, greeting cards, clothing or care packages. Confirm publisher-only rules, photo size/count, prohibited content, package approval and rejected-item return or appeal directly with the jail. CPC care packs are participating-facility products; local availability was not established.
Keep phone funds and commissary money separate
The Sheriff says commissary is passed once weekly and money is due by midnight Tuesday. A Stellar Teller kiosk is in the Sheriff lobby. The same page links JailATM for a commissary order, while CPC expressly says it does not take commissary deposits.
- Confirm the person and ID.
- Ask whether the transaction is a trust deposit or a direct product order.
- Keep the receipt and use JailATM support if a deposit is missing after its stated processing window.
Local fees, limits, deductions, indigent supplies, care-package eligibility and release-balance method are not published.

Protect health, safety and access
Relay urgent facts and document unpublished grievance, ADA and PREA paths.
Relay urgent health facts to the jail—not a public medical diagnosis
The county does not publish a jail clinical vendor or family medical line. For an urgent concern, call 812-988-6655 and provide the person’s full name, date of birth, symptom, medication name/dose, last known use and your callback number. Ask that the message be documented and routed to medical staff. Call 911 for an immediate community emergency.
Use the jail for custody welfare and 988 for community crisis support
No local jail page identifies mental-health intake, suicide-watch notification or a clinical family contact. Call the jail for an incarcerated person’s urgent welfare concern. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline can support the caller but cannot order jail treatment. Do not send sensitive health details to unrelated county offices.
Confirm medication, glasses and records procedures before delivery
The jail does not publish rules for outside prescriptions, pharmacy verification, eyeglasses, medical devices or release of health information. Ask jail staff what medical personnel require and whether any item may be delivered. The Brown County Health Department is a separate public-health office at 200 Hawthorne Drive and does not replace jail medical care.
Ask for the resident grievance and appeal chain
No public Brown County jail policy gives the grievance form, filing deadline, emergency route, appeal levels or external reviewer. The incarcerated person should request the current form and keep dates, names and response copies. A family member can ask the Jail Commander who receives an overdue or retaliation-related complaint, but cannot file as the resident unless local policy permits it.
Request jail accommodations directly and transit modifications when reserving
No jail-specific ADA coordinator, interpreter procedure, TTY route or accommodation appeal is published. Call the jail before a visit and describe the functional need without unnecessary diagnosis. For Access Brown County transportation, request a reasonable modification during reservation; all vehicles are described as wheelchair accessible and dispatch asks for mobility-device dimensions.
Report immediate sexual-safety concerns and ask for the PREA route
The Sheriff pages do not publish a local PREA coordinator, anonymous outside reporting recipient, third-party process or retaliation-monitoring contact. For immediate danger call the jail and ask for a supervisor. Ask the Jail Commander how a resident or third party can make a confidential PREA report; do not substitute an IDOC prison hotline unless staff confirms jurisdiction.

Coordinate court, counsel and release
Follow the filed order and every holding authority.
Use MyCase to prepare, then confirm with Brown Circuit Court
Brown Circuit Court is at 20 East Main Street, second floor, open Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4 p.m., 812-988-7557. MyCase can show statewide Odyssey case information, but Indiana Courts warns it is not the official record. Record the cause number, charge court, next date, bond/release order and counsel entry; confirm official terms with the clerk or court.

Use the court appointment process, not the prosecutor
The Circuit Court posts a Request for Appointment of Counsel form. Ask the court whether counsel has been appointed and how to contact the local public defender. The State Public Defender’s family page is mainly for post-conviction and state/federal custody contacts; it is not a substitute for trial counsel. The prosecutor represents the State, not the accused.

Confirm the filed release order and every hold before paying
No current local jail page publishes bond-posting methods, accepted payment, after-hours process, surety rules or release timing. Use MyCase for a preliminary look, then call the Circuit Court and jail. Ask whether the order is recognizance, cash, surety or supervision; who may pay; required identification; and whether probation, parole, another county, IDOC, federal or immigration authority will continue custody.

Get property authorization and pickup instructions first
No current local page publishes property-release forms, approved recipient ID, pickup hours, clothing exchange, storage limit or transfer procedure. Ask the jail whether the person must sign an authorization and which lobby/door the recipient should use. Do not arrive based only on the administrative office hours.
Plan pickup only after staff confirms actual release
A court order does not guarantee immediate departure. Ask the jail whether booking tasks, another warrant, probation/parole action, state/federal authority, transport or time-credit review remains. Confirm the expected door, time window, clothing, medication, property and account-balance handoff. Indiana SAVIN is useful for alerts, but direct jail confirmation controls the trip.

Keep jail, supervision and the jail-based residential program distinct
Brown County Court Services combines adult/juvenile probation, pretrial and Community Corrections at 20 East Main Street, 812-988-5505. IDOC’s residential-center directory separately lists Brown as a jail-based work-release program with 5 male and 5 female beds and 812-988-7343, without a street address. Confirm eligibility, actual location and which number is current; do not treat supervision as ordinary jail housing.

Travel with a reservation and confirmed door
Use Access Brown County and verify parking, entrance and return.
Use 55 State Road 46 East and verify the visitor entrance
The Sheriff and jail pages place the facility at 55 State Road 46 East. The visitation page says visitors sign in in the Sheriff lobby and identifies the lobby video kiosk. No official page identifies a named parking lot, accessible stall route, drop-off point, after-hours door or overflow parking. Call before driving and do not use courthouse or downtown visitor parking as a substitute.
Reserve Access Brown County; there is no fixed jail stop
INDOT lists Access Brown County Public Transportation as the county system. It is curb-to-curb, appointment-based service for Brown County residents, Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m.; all vehicles are wheelchair accessible. Request at least 24 hours ahead, as far as three months ahead, at 812-988-0185 (dispatch Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.). Published one-way fares are $5 in-county and $7.50 out-of-county; residents 60+ ride free.
Give dispatch the jail address, appointment/visit time, finish time, passenger count and mobility-device details. A requested ride is not guaranteed; alternate times may be offered. No fixed stop, live arrivals or final pedestrian route is published.

Finding someone held here
Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything
Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.
Clear information.
Clear boundaries.
Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.
Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?
No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.
Does posting bond mean the person comes home?
Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.
What should I confirm before visiting?
The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.
What if I find something that needs correcting?
Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
