JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

A practical family guide to Kendall County’s adult jail in Yorkville.

Sources reviewed

Sheriff-operated adult jail at 1102 Cornell Lane; youth, state prison, BOP, ICE, municipal, courthouse, supervision, historic and neighboring-county identities remain separate.

  1. Confirm custody

Save the subject and booking numbers, then call the jail for current authority.

  2. Confirm the provider

The inspection says Securus; the visit page names NCIC for billing.

  3. Read the filed order

Cash bail ended in Illinois; the current court order controls release.

PART 01

Start with identity and custody

Use the linked topics for a complete local task.

Use the adult Sheriff jail at 1102 Cornell Lane

Kendall County Corrections is the Sheriff-operated adult jail at 1102 Cornell Lane, Yorkville, IL 60560. Call 630-553-7500. The May 8, 2025 state inspection records 107 male beds, zero female beds and zero juvenile beds. The building also held U.S. Marshals and other Illinois-county detainees on inspection day; those are custody classes inside this jail, not proof of a BOP or ICE facility.

Search by several fields, then verify movement with the jail

The official search accepts name, subject number, booking number, in-custody status and booking-date ranges. A result can show a photograph, charges, bond amount, release date and arresting agency. Search name variants and widen the booking dates. Then call 630-553-7500 to confirm the identifier, current housing authority, case number, court, holds and any pending transfer or release. A court docket or VINE alert answers a different question and does not prove the person is still in this building.

  1. Record the exact legal name and date of birth.
  2. Save the subject and booking numbers separately.
  3. If staff says IDOC, BOP, ICE, youth or another county, use that operator’s locator and rules.

PART 02

Plan visits and communication

Use the linked topics for a complete local task.

Choose lobby or remote video and use the published windows

All family and friend visits are by video and require advance scheduling and approval. Remote visits are offered daily, as scheduling permits, during 8 a.m.–12 p.m., 1–5 p.m. and 7–11 p.m.; they may not be back-to-back. Free lobby visits are offered Monday–Thursday and Sunday during 10 a.m.–12 p.m., 2–4:30 p.m. and 7–9 p.m., up to two per week, 20 minutes, with two registered adult visitors. The jail promises at least one visit per week except a disciplinary penalty. Lockdown, court, health movement, misconduct or emergency can delay or end a visit; the detained person may refuse.

Sources: Kendall County video visitation rules · 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County

Resolve minors, orders, conduct and unknown ID rules before scheduling

Visitors must be 18 or older unless accompanied by a parent or guardian, who must stay in the lobby booth or remain physically present during a remote session. A restraining or no-contact order blocks a contrary visit. Video is recorded and monitored except attorney video. The county prohibits nudity, sexual conduct, weapons, drugs, alcohol, gang graphics, unlawful activity and recording or photographing the session. Its page expressly includes exposed breastfeeding in its nudity rule; a nursing visitor should ask the jail in advance about a lawful private-feeding or accommodation option. The page does not publish accepted photo ID, proof of guardianship, dress code, belongings, infant supplies, service-animal procedure, language help or accessibility request timing. Call 630-553-7500 before booking.

Confirm which portal applies before creating or funding an account

The 2025 state inspection says Securus supplies video, phone, messaging and tablets. The county’s current visit page instead says billing issues go to NCIC. Do not merge the brands or fund both. First select Kendall County and the person in the live portal; if the facility/person is absent or the branding conflicts, call the jail. For NCIC billing call 800-943-2189. For Securus mobile support call 972-734-1111; for landline/international support call 800-844-6591. No local price, cancellation, no-show or failed-session credit rule was found.

Separate account trouble from jail movement

  1. Save the confirmation, scheduled time, participant name and receipt.
  2. Test camera, microphone, speakers, permissions and connection; sign in early.
  3. Capture the exact error and whether the portal charged the account.
  4. Ask the provider about account, device, payment or refund status.
  5. Ask the jail about lockdown, court, medical movement, discipline or eligibility.

Do not assume a provider refund when the jail cancels; ask for the written rule and a ticket number.

Use the currently displayed Securus account option; verify rates before paying

The 2025 inspection establishes Securus phone service, but the county does not publish Kendall-specific rates, call hours, call-length limits, number-registration rules, blocked-number removal, refunds, balance transfer or privileged legal-call procedure. Securus describes AdvanceConnect, Securus Debit and Direct Bill; availability differs by facility. Use the option actually shown for Kendall and review the live rate disclosure before payment. The detained person initiates ordinary calls; the jail cannot connect an incoming social call. Account support is 972-734-1111 (mobile) or 800-844-6591 (landline/international).

Treat messaging and tablets as monitored, facility-controlled services

The inspection says Securus supplies messaging and tablets. That does not establish that every person, housing unit or product is eligible. Confirm the person in the live account, review the displayed price and delivery rules, and never use social messaging for legal strategy, a health emergency or an urgent release instruction. Save a receipt and message status. Ask Securus about account or payment failure and the jail about eligibility, confiscation, discipline or movement.

PART 03

Send mail and money safely

Use the linked topics for a complete local task.

Address personal mail exactly and expect inspection

Send nonprivileged mail by USPS to:
Kendall County Corrections
1102 Cornell Lane
Yorkville, IL 60560
C/O [first and last name]
[inmate ID number]

Use a valid return address. Incoming mail is opened and inspected; gummed areas, stickers, tape and metal are removed. Postage-due mail, unknown recipients and prohibited contents are rejected or returned. The page says mail without a return address is forwarded to an address provided at intake—an unusual source-specific statement; do not rely on it as a delivery route. Confirm the ID and current housing before sending.

Sources: Kendall County inmate mail procedures

Do not improvise books, photos or packages

The mail page authorizes only listed newspapers sent prepaid directly from the publisher, with no more than two in possession. It currently names the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and New York Times. It prohibits magazines and clippings, photocopies of books, internet mail showing screen names or email addresses, stamps, stationery, laminated items, envelopes, calling cards, metal, glitter, crayon, lipstick, perfume, gang/crime material, nudity and provocative photographs. It does not publish a current personal-photo quantity, family package program, book-vendor route or appeal for a rejected publication. Call before ordering; a retailer’s willingness to ship is not jail approval.

Sources: Kendall County inmate mail procedures

Use the live Kendall selection and treat the cash-bond text as obsolete

The Sheriff FAQ links JailATM for commissary money and says a deposit becomes the detained person’s property, may be reduced by a negative balance and is not returned to the depositor. The 2025 inspection identifies Stellar Services as the commissary vendor; that does not necessarily conflict with a separate deposit processor. Confirm the person and Kendall facility in the live portal before payment, then review the displayed fee, limits, accepted method and refund terms. The FAQ also says cash bond can be posted, but Illinois ended cash bail on September 18, 2023. Do not follow that legacy sentence; use the current court order.

Sources: 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County · Kendall County Sheriff FAQ · JailATM · Illinois Courts: end of cash bail

Separate account funding from store availability and release balances

A successful deposit does not guarantee a purchase. Classification, debt, discipline, ordering deadlines and stock may affect commissary. Public sources do not disclose Kendall’s current fee, deposit cap, purchase schedule, item list, indigent-supply standard, negative-balance deduction detail, disputed-charge path or how remaining funds are returned after release or transfer. Keep the transaction ID. Ask JailATM about payment processing and the jail about the resident account, commissary eligibility and final balance.

PART 04

Handle health, access and safety

Use the linked topics for a complete local task.

Relay urgent health information through the jail; do not diagnose through a provider

The 2025 inspection says Advanced Correctional Healthcare provides 76 onsite nursing hours per week. It does not publish a family clinical line, after-hours triage route, medication or glasses acceptance, outside appointment workflow, pregnancy care, dental process, medical fees or health-record release. For an immediate threat call 911. Otherwise call 630-553-7500, state that you have time-sensitive health information, and give the person’s name, date of birth, allergies, diagnoses, prescription details, pharmacy/prescriber and your callback number. Ask staff to document and route the message; do not expect confirmation of protected health information.

Sources: 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County · Kendall Sheriff contact information

Use the jail for in-custody risk and community care for reentry

The inspection records eight onsite mental-health-professional hours per week. For suicide risk, withdrawal, psychosis, threats or abrupt decompensation in custody, call the jail and describe observable facts; use 911 for an immediate emergency. For community treatment planning, Kendall County Health Department is at 811 W. John Street, 630-553-9100. Illinois CARES is 800-345-9049, and 988 is available for crisis support. Community lines do not replace an in-custody health alert.

Sources: 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County · Kendall County Health Department · Kendall mental-health treatment · Illinois crisis services

Ask for the local grievance form, deadline and appeal in writing

The 2025 inspection found no standards noncompliance, but the public site does not publish the detainee grievance form, filing deadline, emergency grievance, appeal level, nonretaliation channel or family submission route. The detained person should record date, time, place, people, witnesses, requested remedy and every response, and keep copies where permitted. Families can ask the jail how to route a concern without replacing the person’s internal steps. For a jail-standards concern, Illinois Jail and Detention Standards can be reached at 217-558-2200; that office does not change a court order or provide emergency response.

Sources: 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County · Illinois Jail and Detention Standards

Request disability or communication access before the event

Federal guidance requires effective communication and reasonable access in criminal justice, but the county pages reviewed do not name a jail ADA coordinator or publish ASL, captioning, mobility, service-animal, low-vision, cognitive, medication-device or language-assistance procedures. Call 630-553-7500 before a visit, court transport or release. State the functional barrier and requested accommodation, ask who owns the decision, request written confirmation and preserve denials. For KAT, request an accessible vehicle or travel-assistant arrangement during registration.

Sources: Kendall Sheriff contact information · ADA criminal-justice guidance · Kendall Area Transit · KAT registration form

Use the published PREA hotline and keep an outside safety record

Report sexual abuse, harassment or staff misconduct through the Kendall PREA hotline at 630-381-9845. The mail page also lists sealed outgoing legal mail to Mutual Ground about PREA; Mutual Ground’s sexual-violence line is 630-897-8383. Preserve the person’s name, subject/booking number, dates, location, alleged actor, witnesses, injuries, retaliation risk and safest callback method. The public pages do not explain whether the county hotline is anonymous or outside-operated, evidence-preservation timing, third-party status updates or retaliation monitoring. Use 911 for immediate danger.

PART 05

Coordinate court, counsel and release

Use the linked topics for a complete local task.

Use the court file for the order, not for current housing

Kendall County Courthouse is at 807 W. John Street, Yorkville, IL 60560. Court administration is 630-553-4208; Circuit Clerk is 630-553-4183. Ask for the case number, next date, courtroom, filed detention/release order, conditions, warrants and whether another jurisdiction has a hold. Online records may lag or omit sealed details, and the courthouse viewing room is a records service—not a jail locator. Verify current custody separately.

Sources: Kendall County Courthouse · Kendall Circuit Clerk · Kendall online court records

Confirm appointed counsel and preserve privileged channels

Kendall County Public Defender is at 807 W. John Street, 630-553-4215. Ask the clerk whether counsel has been appointed and obtain the lawyer’s name; do not assume the Public Defender represents the person before appointment. Give counsel the booking/subject number, case number, next hearing, holds, medication urgency and family callback. Attorney video is not recorded or monitored under the county visit page, but the public site does not explain scheduling, attorney identity approval, privileged phone registration or electronic document exchange. Counsel should arrange those directly with corrections.

Sources: Kendall County video visitation rules · Kendall Public Defender · Illinois Public Defender directory

Read the filed release order; do not pay legacy cash-bail instructions

Illinois ended cash bail on September 18, 2023. The Sheriff FAQ’s 24-hour cash-bond instructions are legacy text and should not be used. The judge’s filed order controls detention, release and conditions. Pretrial Services is reached through the courthouse at 630-553-4208. Ask about check-ins, testing, GPS, curfew, travel, treatment, no-contact terms and how to request a modification. Before arranging pickup, ask the jail whether any warrant, other-county, IDOC, U.S. Marshals or immigration hold prevents release.

Sources: Kendall County Sheriff FAQ · Illinois Courts: end of cash bail · Illinois statewide pretrial directory · Illinois pretrial supervision

Keep custody, incident and court records in separate requests

Use the Circuit Clerk for the criminal case file and the Sheriff Records Division for incident, arrest or agency records. Records walk-up is published as Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; call 630-553-7500 before travel. Ask which record is public, the exact date range, report or case number, fee, redaction and delivery method. Medical records, jail grievances, provider transactions and court files have different custodians; one request will not produce all of them.

Sources: Kendall Sheriff Records Division · Kendall Circuit Clerk · Kendall online court records

Get written authorization and task-specific instructions before pickup

The 2025 inspection records compliant property receipt and third-party written-authorization procedures, but the county does not publish the local form, eligible recipient, pickup days, ID standard, inventory dispute, abandoned-property deadline or release-clothing rule. Call 630-553-7500 with the name and subject/booking number. Ask whether the person must sign an authorization, which property can be released, exact desk/door, hours, acceptable ID and receipt. Do not travel on verbal family approval alone.

Sources: 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County · Kendall Sheriff contact information

Confirm every authority, destination and pickup condition

A displayed release date can change because of court action, sentence credit, transport, another jurisdiction or a hold. Ask corrections to identify each holding authority, whether release is direct or a transfer, expected destination, when the status may be confirmed again, and whether property, medication, clothing or transport need coordination. U.S. Marshals detainees and other Illinois-county detainees were present during the 2025 inspection; sending-authority instructions may differ. Do not attach ordinary Kendall release assumptions to a federal or outside-county movement.

Sources: Kendall County Sheriff: Corrections Division · Kendall County live inmate search · 2025 Illinois jail inspection: Kendall County · Federal Bureau of Prisons locator

Use verified in-custody programs, then make a local release checklist

The inspection verifies GED and substance-use-disorder programming, Casemaker legal research on Securus kiosks, and Aramark food service. It does not publish eligibility, enrollment, waitlists, completion records, reentry case management, identification documents, benefits enrollment, medication bridge or transportation at release. Ask the detained person to submit a request early. A family checklist should include signed release conditions, identification, prescriptions, court/pretrial appointments, phone access, transportation, safe housing and a plan for any transferred property or account balance.

PART 06

Plan travel and verify the last mile

Use the linked topics for a complete local task.

Confirm the public entrance, parking and accessible path before travel

The verified task address is 1102 Cornell Lane, Yorkville, IL 60560. Public sources reviewed do not identify the visitor lobby entrance, parking rows, release pickup point, after-hours door, passenger drop-off, service-animal route or continuous accessible path. Because Sheriff administration, records and the jail share the Public Safety Center, do not assume one door serves every task. Call 630-553-7500 and ask for the task-specific entrance, check-in time, parking location, mobility route and who to call from the lot.

Sources: Kendall County Sheriff: Corrections Division · Kendall Sheriff contact information · Kendall Sheriff Records Division · ADA criminal-justice guidance

Register and reserve KAT to the street address; no fixed jail stop is verified

Kendall Area Transit is demand-response public transportation, not a fixed jail bus. Registration is required at 630-882-6970; after registration, schedule at 877-446-4528. Published service is Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–7 p.m., except holidays, with the last reservation at 6:30 p.m.; the reservation office is 8 a.m.–4 p.m. One travel assistant may ride free, and wheelchair assistance is limited to one step unless a travel assistant helps. Ask for 1102 Cornell Lane, accessible vehicle, exact pickup window, fare, return trip and safe drop-off. No fixed jail stop or pedestrian route to the visitor door was verified.

Read dates and conflicts instead of flattening them

This guide was reviewed on September 29, 2026. It treats the May 2025 state inspection as dated evidence, current county pages as local instructions, provider pages as transaction/support handoffs and the current court order as controlling release authority. The guide deliberately preserves the Securus/NCIC provider conflict, obsolete cash-bail sentence, contradictory KAT advance windows and unusual no-return-address mail sentence. Where no current public rule was found, it names the gap and responsible contact rather than inventing an answer.

Finding someone held here

Use the county system for a recent arrest. A state corrections search covers people in state custody. It generally will not list someone booked into a county jail this week. Bookings, bail, release, and visiting are all handled by Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Before you travel, pay, or mail anything

Get two things first: which facility the person is actually in, and their booking or ID number. Almost nothing works without them. Then check this facility’s current instructions — rules and service providers change.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 is an independent information resource for families and friends. We are not a government agency, jail operator, law firm or live custody-records service.

Can Jail411 tell me if someone is in custody right now?

No. Jail411 does not hold live custody records. Use the official locator for the county, state, federal or ICE system that has the person; start here if you do not know which.

Does posting bond mean the person comes home?

Not always. A probation or parole hold, another county's warrant or an immigration detainer can keep someone in custody after bond is posted. Ask the jail what holds are on the booking before you pay.

What should I confirm before visiting?

The person's current facility, the visiting schedule, approval requirements, accepted identification and arrival instructions. Check the facility page and its official sources before you travel.

What if I find something that needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the official source when you have one. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
