San Bernardino custody and arresting agencies

An arresting station is not necessarily the housing jail. Use the current booking to find the responsible custodian.

JAIL411 / FAMILY FIELD GUIDE

San Bernardino custody and arresting agencies

Sources reviewed

Four active adult Sheriff detention facilities; juvenile, federal, immigration, city and historical records excluded.

  1. Find the booking

Save the booking number and current housing.

  2. Book the exact visit

Use the Sheriff scheduler; confirm the facility format.

  3. Send information correctly

Match medical, mail and payment routes to the person.

  4. Plan the return

Confirm the release exit, transportation and follow-up.

PART 01

Find the person

Confirm identity, housing and the right system.

Find the booking before making plans

Search the Sheriff’s Inmate Locator with the booked name. Keep the booking number, current facility and full housing location together. These identify the person for the visiting center, medical team, mailroom and deposit service. Recheck immediately before travel or payment; an arresting station is not necessarily the housing jail.

  1. Try the name with and without a middle name and any names the person has used.
  2. If no record appears, ask the arresting agency whether booking or transfer to the Sheriff is complete.
  3. Call public information at 909-350-2476; the facility pages also list locator help at 909-708-8371. Give the full name, birth date, arrest date and any booking number. Ask whether the person is still in intake, transferred, released or held by another agency.

A missing result does not establish release. Intake includes medical screening, fingerprints, booking and classification; no fixed public posting deadline was verified. Public/social visits are not allowed while the person remains in intake. Do not use an old record to choose a current destination.

Four adult Sheriff jails; different destinations

These four facilities are active in the Sheriff’s current directory. Central handles east-valley bookings and also houses federal detainees under a U.S. Marshals contract. West Valley houses many people awaiting court and people with higher medical needs. High Desert is the county jail in Adelanto. Glen Helen principally houses people sentenced to county commitments, including men and women. A facility’s usual role does not predict an individual assignment.

Separate systems: Central Valley juvenile detention and ARISE are Probation youth facilities. FCC/USP/FCI Victorville are federal prisons. Adelanto ICE Processing Center on Rancho Road is separate from HDDC on Commerce Way. A legacy “Victorville Jail” listing is not a fifth current main Sheriff jail: resolve its operator and current custody before using any visiting or deposit instructions. Barstow, Big Bear, Morongo Basin and Needles station/Type I custody are not interchangeable with the four main jails.

PART 02

Court, property and coming home

Counsel, bail, release and reentry.

Separate jail belongings, evidence and a towed vehicle

Jail property normally follows the person’s custody record. The person must request and sign a Property/Money Release/Clothing Exchange authorization before another person can collect approved belongings. The collector takes government photo ID to the actual holding facility and signs for the items. Ask about counter hours and authorization status before traveling. At HDDC, the manual generally requires releasing all property at once except clothing; an emergency request goes to the watch commander. Money releases have separate limits described above.

Ask staff before bringing clothing or medical items. An authorized clothing exchange is not an unrestricted parcel delivery; the old clothes may need to leave with the person making the exchange. CDC’s posted manual permits prescription eyeglasses, including an exchange for a damaged pair; ordinary reading glasses are purchased through commissary. Confirm medical acceptance and the precise handoff location for other devices or medication.

Evidence seized by an arresting/investigating agency is not ordinary jail property. Use the property receipt, case number and that agency’s evidence unit to establish release authorization; a jail release does not automatically release evidence. For a towed car, identify the towing/impounding agency and tow yard from the impound record. Ask that agency whether a release is required and the yard about ownership/driver documents, fees, hours and vehicle access. No single Sheriff jail counter releases every city’s impound; do not send a family member to the jail solely on the vehicle’s arrest connection.

Clear information.
Clear boundaries.

Jail411 lists the public agencies that make arrests so families can find the right door. We are not a government agency, a police department or a live custody-records service.

Is the sheriff's office the same as the jail?

Often the sheriff runs the county jail, but the jail is a separate facility with its own address, phone and rules. Open the jail page for booking, visiting, mail and money details.

How do I find out which department made the arrest?

Ask the person, check any paperwork or citation, or call the sheriff's non-emergency line. City arrests belong to that city's police; unincorporated areas and county roads usually belong to the sheriff; freeways usually belong to the state patrol.

Can these agencies tell me if someone is in custody?

The jail can. The arresting agency may confirm an arrest but does not hold the person. Call the jail's booking or information line first.

What if a listing needs correcting?

Send us the page and the detail that needs attention. Include the agency's official page when you have it. Do not send private booking documents or other sensitive personal information.
